Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3299/
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 4500 → 30000
- Pointlessness → Unchanged
This fight is kind of arse. Mithra mostly uses either a ludicruously overpowered Megidola spell or a predictable Dragon Eye, Debilitate, Mamudoon, Mahamaon script (note: while he always had Debilitate, in vanilla he would only use it as a single action rather than as part of the Dragon Eye script). It's basically a big HP check - all the tedium of the Ongyo-Ki fight's execution without any of the risk or the fun trial and error planning and troubleshooting that went into that one. All you need for guaranteed victory here is ~610 HP, Tetraja, Dekunda and a full heal spell.
To go a bit more in depth - reapplying Cadenza every round is definitely worth it, as it prevents whiffs and the damage you deal in rounds where he doesn't use the Debilitate rotation more than makes up for the damage you lose on Debilitate rounds. Luster Candies would of course be the fastest strat but wasting them on a guaranteed win was not going to happen. Those things are precious. Baphomet was used solely for his innate Death repel which means we don't have to sit through the Mahamaon animation round after round. I don't even bother focusing with Demi here, as he can't afford to thrust for risk of being revenge killed by Megidola. I end up not getting a single shock with Mjolnir anyway. Hopefully it pulls its weight more when it counts!
Regardless of all that, everything I dislike about this fight is forgiven due to the insane double repel morph at the end. This was my first and only planned attempt. I was going to get the remaining repels in the Bandou Shrine, as those are by far the shortest battles left, but this stroke of luck has saved me what I expected to be 2+ hours of combined resets. So uh, thanks again, RNGsus. - Игры
- Holy cow. Dem skill morphs.
- I never forbade them given they were all nerfed, but this vid does mark the first appearance of a fiend in my squad. White Rider is just too perfect for this battle and the next, and will also come in handy down the line...
- This also marks the appearance of Lategame Utility Bae, who will be lurking for the rest of the run. She's good for dungeon navigation, but will she ever see action vs a boss? *SuBsCrIbE tO mY pAtReOn To FiNd Ou-*
- And finally, 10:45 is the start of a new love affair. Yeah, get lost Arahabaki. Wu Kong is made to just be a generally useful support/phys/godmode unit for... well, most of the upcoming bosses. It's difficult to ever make another but he's such a beast he's good for the rest of the game.
He may have been replaced, but Arahabaki is irreplaceable. -Song when?-
friendship ended with arahabaki - now wu kong is my best friend
But can Wu Kong beat Goku tho
PRAISE WU KONG
Alright but will wu kong be in the thumbnail multiple videos on a row?
God imagine if games outside of devil survivor 1 used megidoladyne.
Thats some myriad truth right there
I think there's Megidoladyne in a later release of DS2, but that's about it?
megidoladyne is used by tico duo in ds2
megidoladyne = megidolaon
megido > megidola > megidolaon
The entire idea of Megidoladyne is that only DS1 Luci does it and you freak the fuck out when he does.
If Mithra didn't have inflated HP in this mod, Jim would have won just over 3 and a half minutes into the video.
Zombero moment
I wouldn't put it past Jim to say that he'd probably also swap around for Uzu-Bae just to finish him with Mazan, just like last time. After all, he did say that Baphoment was really only there for the innate death repel...
that moment when you almost die to a megidola but megidolaon takes 1/3 of your health when mot does it
i found this fight harder than mot in my hardtype playthrough. megidola hits hard
That's what happens when Magic is normal.
Oh man a Fiend that isn’t MC. They finally getting the limelight
0:57 GameCube shield
I love White Rider’s laugh.
"Ta-da, Megidola!"
All the P2 music has me hopeful for a Jim let's play
Just reminded me of the fact that a p1 low level could very well be torture on the sole notion that you can earn xp from negotiations.
Mithra: *could be no longer scripted, use new moves like gate of hell, have two press turn or always use dragon eye*
zombre: op megidola that ll do
No enemy in this mod even *uses* Gate of Hell, from what I've seen...
@@steam-powereddolphin5449 does someone learns it at least?
Beiji-Weng and Ongyo-Ki
I haven't actually seen it, I wonder what animation it uses
@@JimReaperSaysUnsubscribe i guess the hades blast animation would fit
@@JimReaperSaysUnsubscribe Blight, IIRC.
always thought it was really weird that Mithra had Megidola when Mot, a boss before him had Megidolaon. Still one of my favorite demons to have in Nocturne. (And of course Wu Kong would be one of the best units in the game, he's friggin' 𝘎𝘰𝘬𝘶. If Goku can't do it, who will?...even though he's one of the hardest demons to create due to being an evolution demon and you can make a fiend that's just as good at an easier time to create)
Megidola

Ah yes, Mr. "My Megidola hits harder than Mot's infinite turns +4 Megidolaon" Mithra.
Also, what the heck? Mjolnir and dual repels from skill mutation? How!?
Yep. I'm carrying 6 demons with Diarahan and Mediarahan in every fight so they always 'fail' the upgrade and potentially pull a repel, but getting 2 repels in one fight was amazing.
For reference, the full pool of Diarahan morphs that I've seen while resetting:
All Ma-dyne spells, Prominence, Glacial Blast, Bolt Storm, Wind Cutter, Mjolnir, Megidola, all elemental repels, Void Phys and Attack All.
This is slightly off from what it should be because skill morphs are bugged in hardtype, but it's still a damn nice selection.
Uzubae is back, back again!!
poor bosses who dont get anything new while sakahagi and harlot exist
Mithra pog

Mithra more like urethra lmao
Mean
Skiing red lion man, nice. Also very nice intro music
psycho rage
Is White Rider the first fiend you've fused for a run in 10+ years?
Megidola animation is just better than megidolaon animation for me
Godamn that megidola hits diffrent
IS THAT UZUBAE AT THE INTRO 👁️👁️
i always wondered how he managed to make the megidola so powerful, did he inflate their level to something insane or something?
He could've inflated just his magic stat since megidola is his only damage move
magic is now uncapped in damage, vanilla deals with magic in weird ways
@@FungalFury Mithra is level 78, at least in the Burial Chamber rematch (though I doubt the rematches are any different from the original fights even in Hardtype, aside from recording your press turn use).
Can enemies secretly have St/Ma/Vi/Ag/Lu _above_ 40, or does the base code not allow that?
@@steam-powereddolphin5449 I expect stats can go above 40, I know they can in DDS2. It would make no sense for there to be a true hard cap of 40, it's most likely something like 255
So yeah I assume that's how we get the crazy Megidola
Does Debilitate have a Dekaja effect in Hardtype or what? I can't understand why you keep using Cadenza each round.
Dekunda sets buff levels to 0 if they are currently below 0, it doesn't reapply buffs that may have been removed. So,
- The team is at +2 hit/mag
- Debilitate takes us to +1 hit/mag and -1 everything else (the defence debuff being the problem)
- Dekunda sets the -1's to 0
- Cadenza takes us back to +2 hit/mag
A lot of people get this twisted since it's not the most intuitive system, I've thought about potentially making a little FAQ/explanation vid for stuff like this
@@JimReaperSaysUnsubscribe Okay, so unlike vanilla, it doesn't track where buffs were before resetting.
@@demi-femme4821 Vanilla doesn't track them either

Spiteful Pain
Wait, how was Hanuman level 50 when he still had to learn Rakukaja?
Must’ve made a level 49 onkot (with sac fusion) so he only just evolved. Hanuman would then learn all his moves and immediately evolve to wukong at lvl 51
Will you do a Persona 2 challenge?
persona 2 is a joke even on hard mode, the requirements would have to be something like: no hands, no eyes, no fusion, no breathing.
@@carp6829which version? IS was definitely a joke was EP was definitely challenging honestly
@@carp6829 IS PSP has been intentionally tuned substantially easier, even the mid-game bosses are doing single digit damage. This is not the case for the PS1 version.
I tried the P2EP low level challenge. No Evolving, no needless grinding, some personas are prohibited (Sakya, Nata, repel magic/phys like Artemis), no incenses and others.
Let's say, uh… i give up at Metal Trio bossfight.
Better bring Fire Repel for Samael! ;)
Handily I was able to construct my Samael team entirely out of recycled mons.
Third
It seems cheap as fck boss using megidola
