I worked in a homeless shelter in Norwich CT. for 3 winters (2004-2007). There was a guy at the shelter that would hit the hospital and rip out the copper and there was a lot of heavy copper piping! So much copper that he rented a storage space to keep the copper, which he sold a few hundred pounds at a time when he needed money. This guy would do his research......He claimed the town of Norwich was full of underground tunnels and he could traverse the town by way of the tunnels! Now that would make for an interesting video!
Just a bit of constructive criticism. The video 35-45 minutes in just kept getting better and better. The first two buildings were just shelled out, the second one, the partition walls were removed. A quick peak and move on, these buildings were past gone. You started to see buildings that still had the window elements/woodwork and beautiful doors still hanging. Actual evidence of what was left when active. This is the quality stuff. Your presentation and attention to details is well appreciated, nevertheless.

Just some quick constructive criticism, with all due respect! But the constant movement was very nausea-inducing. I'd suggest maybe just slowing down the camera panning. I started feeling kinda blech, and I stood up and it was like I had motion sickness lol
Agreed, that staircase was wicked cool! The administrative building was a fascinating one to explore, and the main lobby (where that staircase is located) was especially fun to check out!

one building was like a canteen a place to get snacks and odds and ends. there was also a building where patients did peicework Also. there was the main admitting building - a locked ward. and showers and a dining hall cafeteria. there was a co-ed housing where there were rooms and on each side bathrooms stalls and rows of sinks. individual rooms with no locks on doors, this was transition to leaving. and kitchen downstairs this was staffed and patients had weekend priveledges. to go and return.i know i was there in 70" s.if no room at private hospitals in Hartford you went there.years ago if a family member said you threatened them or if people had nervous breakdowns or drug overdoses etc, you got drugged heavily and went there. someone could have you committed against your will...
What's interesting is there's no hospital cemetery. Most state hospitals had a cemetery for patients who were unclaimed at the time of their death. I can only guess the State of Connecticut transported the deceased back to their home of record and left it to the town or city to dispose of the remains. There were many more buildings on site including a powerhouse, farm and several industry buildings for the patients to sew, make shoes, do carpentry, etc. There was a large theater and bowling alleys amongst other things. There was a couple of buildings that overlooked the Thames River that housed the criminally insane. After two criminally insane patients escaped, took a woman hostage and stole her van (they were caught and she was unharmed) the criminally insane were transferred to Whiting Forensic Institute in Middletown. In the early 1900's persons who had TB were brought to the Uncas on Thames Sanatorium off West Thames Street in Norwich.
@@bethany.r.groeger If you're referring to the ones in the front near the road one is a Hebrew cemetery, and the other is a Colonial Cemetery with graves from the mid 1600's to present day. But to my knowledge there is nowhere on the property that contains the numbered graves of deceased patients.
The cemetery they used is behind core plus in Norwich. The area is way in the back near where theres a bridge to go over the highway. Stay on the same side but its on a downward hill

I was aware that particular section of Maplewood Cemetery was the section for indigent persons and in fact (as a former police officer of 30 years in Norwich) I saw many a homeless/criminal/just plain poor person I knew interred there. Some even have stone. BUT I was unaware it was the burying ground for the State Hospital. But I'm still guessing that many patients were returned to their hometowns because as you know that area there is relatively small for numerous burials. Thanks for answering!
Do you know across the street from the lippitt building, there’s three other buildings. The nurses ward which is supposed to be really haunted… a men’s , and a woman’s ward…. Less than a mile up the street is the abandoned orphanage known as the Bryant building
I did know that there were a couple other abandoned buildings disconnected from the main campus, but unfortunatelyI was unable to explore them on the day I filmed this. They look wicked interesting though, I would love to return someday and check them out!
Nice, I was just in Montreal last weekend! Unfortunately, since I filmed this video, it appears that they have tightened restrictions and security there. Even if you are unable to make it inside, you can view the buildings from beyond!
My grandfather's been there! I was little at the time but I do remember him going! You know I'm curious if they would have just kept that open could have people got treatment that they some so desperately need but I also heard a lot of bad about the place yes I am from Connecticut I was born and raised here in Connecticut until about 17 years old

While most of the campus has been demolished, a good number of buildings are still up! I visited 6 of them while I was there!

Yep, the tunnels used to connect all the buildings! They recently filled in and excavated most of the tunnels, though.
