    Great to see our British ally leading the way in so many ways - from preparing for this massive NATO exercise, to gathering incredible intelligence to help Ukraine, to Naval deployment to protect shipping. @@Benjd0 for now it is although Italy and Japan may have them soon. However the Queen Elizabeth class carriers remain the only carrier class in the world designed specifically with the F35Bs in mind. Italy's Cavour carrier can only embark 16 F35Bs in total whereas the Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales can carry a maximum of 36 F35BS each as well as helicopters which is a more realistic number in times of war, the same goes for the Japanese Carrier which was designed originally as a helicopter carrier now modified to carry the F35Bs again in limited numbers only, not surprising as both carriers are less than half the size of the QE class carriers. Lastly Singapore doesn't have an aircraft carrier so it's most likely the F35A not B.

      @@XR190190 it does,the US Marine Corps only operates the F35BS. All versions of the F35s are impressive against any 4th generation non stealth fighters and the F35B is the only one that's capable of taking off and landing from any base,land or sea whereas the other two versions can't. Don't forget Britain won a major war against Argentina with the Harriers only,the predecessor of the F35B.

      "Multiple", which could mean anything our loathsome London elite Civil Service vermin want to try and big up, but in truth will not likely amount even to ONE full squadron of 12 x F35-B... So we're deploying a 72,000 tonne full load displacement carrier capable of operating a balanced airwing of c60 planes, "all types", including over 40 x F35-B if only we had that many to send, but which in reality will be carrying fewer fast jets than other nations carriers of HALF the size!

    You know what would make this class of ship perfect?
    Bring back the SWORDFISH!
    Oh, not the 1930’s plane, as much as I love it. I’m thinking a long term loitering platform capable of filling torpedo bomber, bomber, reconnaissance, etc. in a package designed for simplicity and low cost, just like the original.
    Forget speed, looks (it can look as ugly as a Blackburn Blackburn), what matters is capability and low cost so if you have to sacrifice some it isn’t an issue.
    Oh, and cheap of course means you can swarm the enemy, if you can keep size down.

      Or they can perform shipborne rolling landings, SRVL., depending upon payloads they return with. Obviously when escorted by an operational T45 destroyer, they have the world's best naval air defence.

    • @Benjd0
      @Benjd0 3 месяца назад +1

      If anyone is close enough to take advantage of an aircraft performing a vertical landing then it's likely already too late for the carrier as a whole, no matter what type of landing is being performed.
      Although as mentioned they have the option to perform a short rolling landing.
      The plus side of a vertical landing is you don't have to deal with aircraft missing the trap and having to go around, plus you can land multiple simultaneously rather than spacing aircraft out to give eachother enough space.
