It's funny how people tend to bash everything new coming from Stratovarius claiming "the band is dead", "it's not the same as they used to be", "it sounds like Cain's Offering". What this band needed was a change of phase, because going in the direction TT pretended was going to be the real dead end for the band. I personally prefered to had Polaris as the follow up of the self titled than having yet another Elements wannabe record like Revolution Renaissance. Don't get me wrong, as a man following Stratovarius for a long time, I still consider masterpieces like Episode, Visions and Destiny to be the best the band has done, and still find Infinite to be their very best record up to this day. Now onto this new song, do I find it good or bad? Can I make a full statement about the whole album with just one song? It'd be stupid of me to do so, I personally like the mix of the heavyness this songs carries from Nemesis with those riffs and the catchiness and melodic chorus that makes me feel I'm listening to something from the Elements era once again. I can see why people still belive this "new" Stratovarius is not the same and that they've "lost their charm", but progression is what makes a band to be alive, and that's what I've seen since 2009, something I haven't felt back in 2005, and I yearn for more of this to come

ggonza43 The fact that impresses me is that Strato toured with Amaranthe and they are able to put their pattern to a strato song and sound like that! Evolution is the word because the lineup that Stratovarius has a lot of talent to explore new musical patterns to add on a trite way to make power metal to make good and actual music, being a sort of 2015 power metal.

    • @sillyseal1223

ggonza43 Cannot upvote this enough. And the fact that makes me unsure whether to laugh or to be angry is that there still are people who bring up the whole Tolkki stuff. I mean, it would have made sense if he alone created masterpieces that were way better than what Strato did, but let's face the fact: that's not the case. I have a lot of respect for Tolkki and his previous works and I find some stuff he releases now enjoyable, but not more than that. If something like that was released under Stratovarius name, I would've been disappointed - and don't think I'm the only one. Tolkki era was great, but it would have come to an end no matter what. And after that, there had to be something - something new. Sorry for the wall of text and weird phrasing if there's any. I just spoke (well, tried to) with a heavily trollki'd person and had to let it out. Long live Stratovarius.

It could be because I'm only 20 and don't have the nostalgia that the old-school fans have. But having listened to all of their extensive discography, I really believe that Elysium and Nemesis are the best albums they've done and that Tolkki leaving the band has given so much more creative freedom to create said albums to begin with. I do adore the old stuff as well, particularly Dreamspace for being so dark and atmospheric which is quite unusual for the band. But let's look at the supposed classic albums from Fourth Dimension to Infinite. They're all enjoyable, but they reek of a kind of 'samey' feeling, particularly in the way that Tolkki formulates his songs. A lot of the songs have a similar build-up, chord progression, chorus, dual guitar/keyboard solo section, end with chorus again feel. The songs from the last few albums, on the other hand, all sound so fresh and of its time, which I guarantee wouldn't have been the case if Tolkki was still in the band. Don't believe me? Well for all the Tolkki purists out there, I ask that you listen to his Symfonia 'In Paradisum' album or his recent Avalon projects. The songs on those albums, especially the former all sound like they were ripped from the old Stratovarius albums with no sense of originality at all. People can say what they wish, I believe this is one of the best singles Stratovarius has done so far. I'll respect the old gems they've created in the past, but I will stand by the fresh new band that have reinvented themselves and are allowing to push themselves to new heights. I look forward to purchasing Eternal when it finally comes out.

MetalJoshi156 yea superbly put..im plenty older than you MetalJoshi and have been a fan since the turn of the millennium when i first discovered them for myself, and while some of their back catalogue does contain some of the brightest jewels in metal and progressive metal history, i feel Nemesis is their best body of work to date and love their progression and new freshness. Stratovarius will always be one of the most vital bands while they live i believe.

MetalJoshi156 Thank God! Thank you for saying that I've saying that ever since Elysium or even Polaris, it pisses me off how Tolkki fanboys can't get over the fact he's gone and insist on saying the old stuff is the only good music from Stratovarius, Nemesis was such a brilliant album, straight forward but effective, powerful, Elysium on the other showed a more progressive and dark side of stratovarius, still it was amazing, I just feel that since Tolkki went away, many new symphonies, melodies sounds have made their way into the band's sound, there's much more diversity, so much more enjoying.

MetalJoshi156 Well, I'm 24 years old and I've been listening to Stratovarius since I had 10. I not a hardcore fan and its just my opinion, but I agreed with you. After Tolkki left they just got better and better. Nemesis is one of their best works so far. I can't compare with the old stuff, because I think the last album is very different from the past albums, I think it is more power metal and less symphonic. But listening the two singles from this new album I think they came with a nice mixture between the old and new stuff. I really like the eletronic stuff in Nemesis.

    • @pilotamurorei
      @pilotamurorei 9 лет назад

+Diego Souza I dont think Nemesis beats Polaris or Elysium in the post-Tolkki era (especially the former, Polaris is just epic), but I think it's the stepping stone to getting to Eternal. Personally there are only 3 songs I REALLY like off Nemesis: Dragons, Nemesis and Fireborn (Japanese bonus track written by Lauri). Other than that, meh. However, based on this song AND the studio documentary where snippets of Lost saga and other songs were played, this is definitely the best Strato-album since tolkki left the band.

I can't understand people who say that latest Stratovarius work is bad. They have managed to make their sound much better (tighter, heavier guitars, drums, very technical riffs) at the same time keeping their signature characteristics. They have always used a lot of electronic elements and synths in their music so that hasn't changed to worse. If they truly have changed they have become even better than before.

+Samuel Snehota Dont compare to Hunting high and low or Black diamond because those songs exist and are 2 of the most important songs in their live setlists. Bands have to branch out, and the best thing that ever happened was Jani and Timo working so closely together these past couple years. Cain's offering is EPIC beyond belief and Jani's influence on the sound of Stratovarius is exactly what Strato needed to move ahead into the future.

Sound fantastic, I would kind of preferred to hear a deeper/ more epic song but then again it is a single so it's going to sound a little bit more commercial than other songs on Eternal. As a whole the song reminds me of the title track of Nemesis, not that that's a bad thing!
I wish people would stop criticizing a great band making great music just because it's not what they want to hear. If thats the case, then fine, just vote with your feet (or your ears) and stop listening!! It really is as easy as that.
Stratovarius have made 15 albums now over a 30 year career; you can't keep on making the same album over and over because then the fans and the band themselves will get bored and stale. Bands have to keep with the times, and more importantly, make the music they want instead of what fans say they should, because thats not art, thats fanservice.
I think after all the band has been through and all the years they have made music, they should be free to make whatever they feel like at this point. And the fact that they still make amazing music and still manage to put a fresh spin on things with every album deserves nothing but respect. Good job Strato :)

Great song!! I mean... compared to many other (more innovative) melodic power metal bands it's not really that special, but there's one thing you can always rely on with Stratovarius: When you buy a Stratovarius album, it SOUNDS like a Stratovarius album. No more, no less. Sometimes that's a comfortable feeling and a very good thing!

Not much of a seasoned fan here, I've only been a fan since Polaris came out, but damn these guys just never quit. To me their music has aged like a fine wine. Regardless of some of the cheddar(I'm a firm believer that power metal isn't power metal with out it) in the lyrics the application and musicianship is undoubtably exquisite. Eternal is a superb album. I truly hope they come to California for a tour soon.

    Greetings from Brazil, my brothers!
    When I was young
And life had only just begun
The days were long and bright
So warm and full of light
    I never knew
    That one day
    You would fade away
    Your colors
    Fade to grey
    It seems like
    Yesterday
Still you're shining in the dark
You're still safe within my heart
    Where my memories lie
    And I will follow you
    Wherever you go
I am what you made of me
    Your blood is my blood
And your heart is my heart
We are what we leave behind
An eternal stream you flow through me
    I fear no more
    Though you're gone
    I know we'll meet again
    I know you're there
    Still somewhere
    You are waiting
    You are the mystery
    That only I can know
    The gentle winds that blow
    The glitter on the snow
    I never speak
    About you
    Never say
    Your name
    It's not that
    I don't care
    It's just that
    I'm not there
You're still gone and I'm still here
Yet I always feel you near
    Wherever I go
I am what you made of me
    Your blood is my blood
And your heart is my heart
We are what we leave behind
An eternal stream you flow through me
    I fear no more
    Though you're gone
    I know we'll meet again
    I know you're there
    Still somewhere
    You are waiting
Still you're shining in the dark
You're still safe within my heart
    Wherever you are
I am what you made of me
    Your blood is my blood
And your heart is my heart
We are what we leave behind
An eternal stream you flow through me
I am what you made of me
    Your blood is my blood
And your heart is my heart
We are what we leave behind
An eternal stream you flow through me
    I fear no more
    Though you're gone
    I know we'll meet again
    I know you're there
    Still somewhere
    You are waiting!♫

Well... Not impressed. Stratovarius isn't Stratovarius anymore, every song on Nemesis sounded forced, like someone put a gun against their heads and told them "make a Stratosonataarctica album". Because this reminds more of overblown Sonata Arctica than of actual fist-pumping Stratovarius. The production is too sterile, choral vocals are overblown to the point of silliness... :\

It's funny... There was some Strato's older stuff that I really fell for after first listen, but later on it stopped feeling so great and became "well, good one" kind of songs. But with new material it's often vice versa. The songs that were "uh, okay" turn into "actually cool" and then into "wow, great!" after a few listens.

I´m fan of the band since 1998, and I can say for sure that today Stratovarius is in their best phase, imho. I love Episode, Fourth dimension, etc. and lots of stuff tolki did with the band, but the best thing for stratovarius was him out.

From the music standpoint, Mattias is a fucking genius. These guitar riffs and solos are so sick, the change of keys and complex time signatures is something that he has added to Stratovarius and that Tolkki didn't have that. Yes, Tolkki WAS (please listen to his Avalon albums... they are SO bad) a master in power metal, but what Mattias is bringing to the band is AMAZING. Tolkki based most of his music writing in 4/4 while Mattias I have no idea what the fuck he is doing at times. I LOVE the new Stratovarius. Sure it took some time for me to get used to is, but after the 3rd time of listening Nemesis it clicked and it feels SO right. So please stop hating and continue supporting :)

califanoowner This is why there are so few good metal bands nowadays. They're musicians, they're artists, artists love to try new things, if they are not allowed to, they lose interest. If you wanna listen to Elements, listen to Elements, don't ask for everything by stratovarius or any other artist to sound the same because that's what's killing metal.

I am sooo happy it's a continuation of the CO sound. I LOVED stormcrow and the fact it's in that same vein makes me SUPER happy. I was hoping it would keep some of the CO sound and I got exactly what I wanted. Can this overtake Stormcrow for my album of the year? Only time will tell, but if this is any indication, I will be MORE than happy with the result. I'm actually not a huge fan of Nemesis (I prefer the Elysium sound more) so I'm hoping that they don't fall back into the Halcyon days sound.

It is great to see a band searching for a new sound rather than sticking to a formula that just wasnt working anymore. Heavy metal fans, from all music fans, should pay attention to this more often. People are always complaining that metal today isnt what it used to be. Of course! this "what used to be" happened 20 years ago. Can you imagine people expecting an artist do the same things you did 20 yrs ago, even though he/she now gets an inspiration different from back the, and people also complaining whenever he/she tried to reinvent him/herself? Yeah, it sucks. For the sake of heavy metal and all good music, support change, embrace the new so that heavy metal lives on and grows stronger through new bands, styles an techniques.

Happens the same as the past album, the vocal melodies are very mmm simple or predictable, and those vocal harmonies creates a sound similar as Cain´s Offering. I respect a lot these guys individually and as a group, and Stratovarius is one of my favorite bands, dont get me wrong but if you remember Tolkki never liked to include that much Kotipelto´s stuff and the last two albums are the reason, they don´t have a place in Stratovarius (not because is bad music) they just don't fit in. I think they should change the band´s name and still play old stratovarius stuff, it has more sense like this.
