As a recent graduated who didnt have the chance to do intern work I really missed lots of experience, I have been studying but it is no doubt companies dont want you without prior experience so I have been quite depressed about it. I have been watching your videos and you are so wise for such a young man!! thanks for all the tips.
The beggining is tough for pretty much everyone, but without guidance is just horrible some times, but keep at it, read books, study different cases, you'll get there step by step. Where i live structural design is pretty much around concrete so steel structure weren't very common when i started, i pretty much had to learn everything by myself and bought lots and lots of books, some of them i only consulted 40 or 50 pages, but all were worth it. Don't give up and keep learning and working. I have 16 years under my belt and still learn.
Great video! You are spot on - was very hard to handle a simple design task on my first day even though you did great at uni. This video would be really helpful for fresh graduates. Thanks for doing this!
Thank you for your videos. They are tremendously helpful in gaining insight about what it’s really like to be working as a structural professional. 👏👏👏
love your videos!!. would you mind making a video talking about your first project as a fresh graduate or the tasks u were assigned starting out in detail. I'm perusing my masters but still feel i have inadequate knowledge to start working given the vast information a structural engineer must have.
True.....i graduated and in interview when asked questions i was completely blank i couldnt solve simple sfd bmd.....but thats how im Learning new things everyday....😅😢i know its frustrating but it is how it is.....u hv to keep learning....
Very valid points mate, I hope this will help all the fresh graduates. Do you use Etabs and Safe in your line of work? How do you do the connection designs?
Hello, Engr! Hope you can share with us what softwares you think a Civil Engineer Fresh Grad should learn and really master to elevate themselves in their careers (ex. AutoCAD, STAAD, Revit)
I am a second year Engineering student. I am actually struggling with managing my time and studying all my modules at once. I have daily classes to attend from 8 am to 12midday , then a one hour break, and then a tutorial session from 2pm to 4:30pm. This actually happens daily from Monday to Friday. What do you think I should go about studying and balancing all my seven my modules. Each day have a tutorial session and a tutorial test for a different module😭.
This sounds tough but I think the best thing to do is to try and stay organised and prioritise preparing for the things that will have the biggest impact on your grade. Your time sounds very limited so planning what you need to study each day should allow you to make the most of the short time you have. Hope this helps :)
Hey bro ...Thanks for your great videos.. I want to ask you about software programs... Can you make a video about them ... I hear alot about BIM and Revit ... And also I heard about Apacos and Ansys so can you make a video about them and explain what they really do and how to start learning them and the difference between them I know you are structural... But can you maybe let us know about BIM and project management And thank you for your time
hey, can you guide me. i have project management certificate and construction project management certificate . so, can i work as a structural engineer ? in fact have a knowledge about structural engineer because i have degree of civil engineering in back country.
Is it not available for free through an educational license? I downloaded Autodesk software for free when I was in university, the free educational license only ended after I graduated.
Thanks! I don’t know about a single best piece of advice but I think you should just get started. The only way you’ll learn is by doing so it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong because you’re only going to improve :)
I’ll advise you to look for a job as an intern as soon as you can, or even if you can’t get a “job” search for a profesor from your school that designs and tell him that you would love to be like him, and if none of this options are good for you, just invent a project or search for architectural designs in google and start working on them.
@@BEngHielscher 😭 why can't I find someone's who got a btech degree on tutube. I have a question do btech graduate only work in the field or do they also do office work?
Thanks Hielscher. Agree with you that "The perfect design doesnt exist". The important thing is everyone happy.

Agree with Thing #3. Knowledge bank is a must for structural engineer
what the difference between that and a hand book
Great video! You are spot on - was very hard to handle a simple design task on my first day even though you did great at uni.
This video would be really helpful for fresh graduates.
Thanks for doing this!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
@@BEngHielscher tell me salary per month bro
now this would help me so much as Im already going to graduate in my BS degree next school year
That’s good to hear :)
Thank you for your videos. They are tremendously helpful in gaining insight about what it’s really like to be working as a structural professional. 👏👏👏
Thank you!
You should do a video about private vs public employment pros and cons one day. U the man
Very useful. Thank you so much.
Thanks!
Upload videos consistently. Iam pursuing masters in structural engineering . Iam an Indian

Thank you! I’ll add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion :)
amazing. subscribed
Thanks!

Thanks! I haven’t used a lot of ETABS or Safe but others in my team use these. Are you talking about connection design for steel structures?
@@BEngHielscher yes
I’ve used Limcon, Ram Connection and IDEA Statica
@@BEngHielscher thanks mate.
LED = layout, engineering, detailing. The final calculation document is really the last item to be completed. This is the approach that works for me.
GLADD- Geometry(layout), Loading, Analysis, Design & Detailing.
Great presentation
Ben, what plans do you have for the future uploads? I mean, are you working on something special for us currently?
I always have something new in the works. Stay tuned :)
Hello, Engr! Hope you can share with us what softwares you think a Civil Engineer Fresh Grad should learn and really master to elevate themselves in their careers (ex. AutoCAD, STAAD, Revit)
oversimplification and modelling are integral parts of learning structural engineering
Hey Ben
Name one single software for a structural Engineer to master while living in Australia.
I will make a suggestion. It's tekla.
Spacegass, RAM, STK, Clearcal, sofware is easy but you have to know how to do hand calculation
All good suggestions made by others :)
hi, do you run any structural analysis on macbook air m1 and above? and do you run in virtual machine like parallels desktop?
I don’t currently but I know of many people doing this as you’ve said

@@BEngHielscher It does thank you. All the tutorials per module are worth 10% to 15% of my final mark.

I'would like to learn robot analysis but i'm student i dont have more money to access the formation

Yes, a lot of programs are available for free as a student! Be sure to check their website :)
