I prefer the Kia Rio. I like the looks better than the others and the 1.1 CRDi Diesel has a nice engine sound. My dad has 64 reg 2015 Rio in red a d it looks nice and has plenty of room in the back for me (I am 6 ft and 3.5 inches). Much better value than boring Polo and common Fiesta. Looks fresher and more modern.
Its all Based on opinions, I Drive a Kia Rio 3 2013 1.4 and I like it, its comfortable , very good equipment as standard, and too be honest Its quick and now I'm not saying it will blits every hatchback but its quick for what it is. I left a BMW 1 series ;) at the end of the day it'd based on opinions
Having owned 3 Kias I can't see how they could be described as 'slow'. The Rio with 1.5CRDI has lots of acceleration. It is quiet on motorways and returns 65mpg
I've been torn between the Polo and Fiesta for almost a year now, but I think I've finally decided it's the Fiesta that I'm going to go for. Cheers, great video!
And by the way, if you can afford the better eco-boost Fiesta, THEN go for Ford. I will not discuss that choice. If not, go VW and be a mature car owner. (By the way, the Polo is generous on the kms you can run with a single tank fill.
Very well done review! I love the chemistry between the reviewers. Also, these cars are available here in Canada, which makes this very relevant to me. Thanks! :)
I'm not sure if you tested the 1.2 TSI Polo, but it sure is very fun! The turbo makes it behave like a 1.8 liter engine, and the noise it makes is quite lovely, it growls!! Also, it's funnier to drive since it's much more agile than the one you drove, and it has the same equipment!
Sean Smile I'll just assume you haven't read ANY customer satisfaction surveys for European countries the last 10 years.. Oh and you should also check reliability charts while you are at it..
The Polo really is on another level when it comes to the interior quality. I've been looking for a new small car and sat in the Polo, but I won't buy it because of the price.
skatethebored Well, I personally see both as the same quality. Both good panel fits, both soft touch on the tops of the dash, both scratchy plastics lower down. The Fiesta interior has more appealing decor in my opinion, both are similar quality in terms of fit and finish, wouldn't say one is 'screwed together better' than the other. The Fiesta's design appeals more, too. But that's subjective.
+skatethebored Another level? You've got to be joking me! VW Polo is the worst car in this segment, i've tried the all the 3 cars reviewed and I can tell you, the overall winner should be the Rio, because it looks nice, drive well, most important it is well build and it gives more value and quality for you cash! Fiesta second, it is indeed the best to drive, but being Ford, it is unreliable and with this recent face lift it was turned from probably one of the best looking, to the ugliest small car. Last is the Polo. It is tiny, nasty shit box, without any particular charm and even that German badge should not mean a lot if people are not completely asleep, especially after they fucked up the entire world with their nasty emission tricks and softwares. It not the price, simply VW sucks from whatever angle you looked at it. The Golf is no match to Volvo V40, Passat is no match to V60. I will not buy any German overpriced average build quality shit box!
Well we can agree on that the Rio has the best value (source: I drive one now ;) ) But I still think the interior materials on the new Polo were a bit more upmarket. Vw fucked up the entire world? That is extreme :)
They are good at first but , as they age they tend to have a lot of problems like the window winders , door trims , seat handles , cat convertors are also an issue
I've got a Rio, 2013, Fancy pack. Just beats them all. I've got into both Polo Trendline and Ford Titanium X, around same age. Kia Rio is just a no brainer for that price. Just one downside, the suspension is very stiff and even worse with original Kumho tires.
The rio is the best in my opinion, the fiesta was not comfy on thebtest drive and the polo was quite expensjve to get the same tech in the entry level rio
Because of CarBuyer I made a decision and ordered the Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost a week ago, now I am waiting to pick up the car and I can't wait. Thanks Matt and Rebecca for your professional and entertaining reviews.
@@luxurywealthymind7154 i loved my Fiesta. It served me for 5 years - now my friend has it and enjoys it as much as I did. I got onto the Ford train and upgraded to Focus - it is as much fun as Fiesta - just a bit bigger
I bought the ford fiesta based on your old reviews about it.. and it's the best choice I've made so far :) I'm loving it.. I got the copper pulse color, which is pretty rare in where I come from, Lebanon
If you choose a Fiesta, make sure it is a standard shift. The automatic transmissions start shifting rough and slipping at 30K miles and have to be replaced or rebuilt. Ford is not correcting the problem in design and just letting it happen.
I have driven all three (when my gf was looking at a Polo). She coincidentally didn't get any of them as went for a medium sized car in the end. Anyway..... The 1.4L Kia had bad blind spots and with AC on was a slug. Too much plastic. The Fiesta was fun to drive, my gf doesn't like the way it looked (I liked the pre-facelift). Went OK as a 1.6L also. Dash too complex, awesome sound though. The Polo felt more refined and had better build quality but the 1.2 TSI engines have a very high failure rate compared to the other two. Personally I like its looks but the reliability would stop me buying.
my favourite out of the 3 would have to be the kia rio because its got like a cool big kinda feeling to it and the polo honestly looks like a plain box and well....yeah
Waited till 20 to buy your first car? I'll be buying mine as soon as I'm licensed, can't wait! Might go up a level and get a golf unless insurance fucks me over, if so I'll be looking at a polo
AHCy0 Well I done the right thing and waited til I had a full time job and can buy it for myself, without going to the bank of the parents. Independence is a good thing.
Cmon, polo is a lot smaller inside than rio. In polo you will feel that its a supermini. Polo wont fit four six foot tall people for longer runs, but rio will. U should try rio with 15 inch wheels and then compare ride quality. In my opinion, rio had more comfortable ride with 15 inch wheels than polo with 14 inch wheels and felt less nervous. Polo has hard plastics everywhere in lower spec model and really bad basic seats. There can be good polo, but it costs 1.5 times more than comparable rio...and it is smaller car inside.
The Fiesta shouldn't win because it's the best car to drive. Most people looking into this segment want a small city runabout or something that's very practical, and cheap to run and insure. Also pretty. The Ford doesn't do terribly well on either of those fronts, whereas the Polo and Rio do.
Not necessarily. Different people look for different qualities and priorities them differently as well. Hence the options in the market. Like if Kia tries to oust the Ford in driving fun, it compromises its practicality, comfort and economy. And if it still doesnt outperform the Ford, then its clear what people would buy. So outdoing on different fronts are actually better, giving consumers more options. The reviewers priorities drive quality over practicality.
***** You do realize that they keep talking about "their" preferences, when they ought to be impartial and score a car according to its merits and target market (like I said, most people don't know the difference between an alternator and a brake master cylinder, so driving fun is completely foreign to them. carbuyer subscribers are not part of those people), not by their own personal preference. The Polo should be the best, even though I really like the Rio.
They covered all the practical stuffs already. So those who are looking for practicality will take note at that segment. And their preference is driving fun oriented while your idea of a car is whats on paper. Like i said, these 3 cars are not exactly targeting the same market. Like if i'm looking for a comfort drive, Polo. Economy drive, Rio. A drive, Fiesta. Simple. They may be in the same size class, but their buyers are quite different.
Hi mate I bought my Fiesta when I did because it was the most fun to drive. If I wanted practicality I would have saved up and bought a small car rather than a supermini. The thing about fun is that it's something you can experience and benefit from everyday. I liked the Mazda2 as well and could have had a 5dr for the same price as my 3dr Fiesta at the time, but to drive it felt a little ho hum in comparison. My point is that I would rather begrudge missing the relative practicality of the Mazda the 1 day a year I need to go to Ikea or whatever (just pay them to deliver) than I would begrudge missing the more enjoyable drive of the fiesta every day I drove to work. I ultimately sold it to get a motorbike, thus maximizing my commuting fun and never regretted it, even after a couple of crashes and a broken arm.
The Ford Fiesta is a HUGE fun to drive!! I'm a glad Fiesta owner, and I would not bargain my car with anything else! (Altough I prefer the old one, not this new restyling).
I have test driven them as well, and I bought the KIA, I am sorry but the KIA is much ... ahead in all aspects, I appreciate that VW and Ford have paid you money to say that their cars are better.. but that is not the way, why do you sell yourselves so cheaply.
"Tell me why that's a problem Matt with the boot Matt..." "Well say you have a big, massive um.. Wardrobe or um refrigerator and you wanted to slide it in the back..... " Can you be any more graphic???
They picked one, while they said Fiesta is not practical. I guess it would leave the customers to decide, what is it that they are looking for. For practicality, space and badge, they'd go for Polo. When money (and reliability) is the greatest concern, Kia is the best choice. Fiesta... for the rest and for CarBuyer :) Nice video!
I've driven the Fiesta and loved the way it handled. It was also super comfortable. I drove it on a four hour trip without stopping and didn't feel like I'd been driving for that long at all. The colored lights on the inside were very cool, too, I must say. :D

Kia is not gonna be cheap to get parts, VW and Ford you can get parts easily as they sell way better, Ford, VW and Vauxhall are top 3 selling car brands in UK
