- Hey guys,
Hope you have had a fantastic week!!
In this episode I pay the incredible PJ Phillips a visit and take a look at his bass guitar collection.
PJ has been a friend of mine for many years now and is one of the most in-demand bass players on the circuit.
If you want to know more about PJ, check out the links below.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for a 'mid week' video for something else that PJ is involved with.
As usual, thank you for watching, and thank you very much if you've subscribed.
See you all again, on the road!

Wals are £4000 upwards, the older ones even more.
Nice gear man.
I've been offered more than twice that amount for the fretted one. It's a keeper :0)
I liked that blacked out Fender
Really like that Thunderbird too they sound really good in some situations
Only got 3 myself: got a Stagg Fretless with a natural finish with nylon tapewounds on it (tuned to DGAE).
Got a Squier Jazz bass in natural finish as well (roundwounds in G standard tuning).
Got a 1999 (I think) Fender Jazz American Standard in Candy Apple Red with normal strings in E standard tuning).
What a fantastic collection. Puts my 3 to shame but I do love the ones I've got.
Myk Hough bunch of plonkers
Your 3 puts my 1 to shame
Still have those 3? Whats your collection looking like these days?
@@kylecrary963 Still got my 2 fivers (Ibanez and ESP fretless) and my workhorse Variax although they have been gathering dust recently! I've added a cheap Electric Upright Bass specifically for two amateur musical productions planned for this year but they have been postponed until at least November. Gives me time to practice with the bow I guess!
Some amazing basses. And a couple of wonderful fellows. Great stuff.
Great video Phil... Thank you so much PJ for sharing your collection.. fantastic !!
Thank You, it's always a pleasure seeing Phil. Much appreciated :0)
Great collection . ...thanks Phil.
I'm soooo happy to stumbled across this I love Warwick basses
Excellent collection, excellent taste, too. I've always wanted a Warwick Dolphin 5, and a Wal 5 MkII.
Thank You, the Dolphin is really excellent, a favourite of many producers I have worked with. The Wal basses are also fantastic and I use them both a lot for recording, thanks for your kind words. PJ
Great bass collection!
Those Wals have me drooling!!!!
There are only nine basses in my collection but one of them is a 70s Wal ;^) (currently under refurbishment)
She doesn't have the fancy top cap body, just a lump of wood. Originally Cherry. I dunno why but I wanted her black. Pete "The Fish", bless him, helped me do her up last time in the 90s.
You'd have a heart attack seeing her now in bits in a box !!!
Curiously, and I'm not sure how or why, I've also accumulated eight non-bass guitars. (Excuse to buy a load of toys/pedals I think).
70s? I'd like to see it, that's a very early one I guess. Been playing my two a lot this week on recordings. Let's see some pics when it's ready, cheers, PJ
Some time after Xmas I reckon. Got to get that out of the way first innit. Can't rush these things...
She's my 2nd Wal. My first got stolen in '82. That was a sunburst Pro IIE that I had from new. Lost a Ricky that day too. QQ
My main is a Modulus Q5 I got in '93/94. Didn't buy any new basses for about 20 years until this year. The Q5 can make some pretty near Fender noises but I decided to get a real Precision. I foolishly sold a beautiful old maple Precision in the 90's. Been kicking myself ever since. Got a Marcus Miller Sire V7 as well for the Jazz feel. Brilliant bass, fantastic value.
That's horrible, losing two great basses like that. Feel for you man.
Cheers mate. 35 years ago now. I'm almost over it ;^)
I was out of the country when they went. Having the time of my life, so the sense of loss although real wasn't so deep. The Ricky I had kind of grown out of, but the Wal was my pride and joy as you might imagine. I got a few leads as to which way they had gone but after the low life thieves themselves the trail led to "connected" people. Would have taken more than just a blue belt in kung fu and a cheesy pop gun to wade into that pond ... 8^O
So many basses I wish I could get my hands on!
The ones that I could I bought though. My workhorse is a Music Man bongo. They’re absolute masterfully crafted instruments that can do SO much.
That might be true but they are by far the ugliest basses ever created. Lol
That's, like, your opinion, man.
Very true... yet very common opinion.
Very interesting, I will soon be purchasing a bass.... whether I can play it or not.... food for thought :-)
If you need any advice or playing tips, I'll do my best to help, cheers. [PJ Phillips]
nice vid. cheers from germany.
At 5:50 did he say that was a jazz bass? Looks like a p bass body to me. Beautiful instrument tho. Hell of a Warwick collection too
What a fantastic piece of background music. Who is it?
Top Secret, I know the players but not sure who produced it :0)
FNA is translated to "Fucking Nice Axe".
Warwick brings out a new FNA from different models every year. They allways have something special in means of wood or pickups/electronic. Pretty pricy, tho.
So is this the same PJ that played with Christian Death?
I caught the Benny Hill reference. Thanks for the laugh.
My favorite part of a video showcasing someone's collection of musical instruments is where they don't play any of the instruments.
Wal 17 meu Deus this dream
2-3k bass for £250 because it wasn't working. Fixed with a new battery. I'm as tickled as I am furiously jealous.
Me dá um baixo desses!
I really like my 5 string Spector it's almost too pretty too play almost🤣
Jealous af
dont even look at it..
