Dave, and everybody behind these videos. I just want to give a big big thank you for all these videos that you guys make. I'm learning so damn much from all these and it's helped me get my music to sound better on every level and in every way. Every piece of information you guys give is valuable and I just appreciate that very much. Salute from Holland, TJ
Hi Dave, I don't leave messages much, but I wanted to thank you for all I'm learning from you. I just downloaded these three plugins and will be checking them out. Thanks.
Timing on this couldn't be better, after years of exclusive Reason use I just bought Studio One Professional as a compliment, and am on the hunt for good cheap VSTs. Will definitely be looking at all of these, thank you!
I love what your doing Dave, I may not know anything about you, what you do or how I can use what your telling me most of the time (being very new to this) I do want to take the time to say thanks for doing this for free and giving me ideas. While everyone else is going off about what method is better I'm here taking it at face value and trying my best to get what all this is about. The eq shifter looks awesome. Thanks again
Panipulator is so awesome & fast for checking your phasing by placing it in mono first then flipping either left or right polarity. Great to check guitar spreads, etc. It's so much quicker than the old method.
Thank you for sharing this vid. I will gift these Plugs to my brother who just started. I´ve got a good set-up, already which allowes me to do all of these stuff which sound as great as my starting material and they come also for free with my DAW.
Always great to learn from the best and hear their opinion. I know listening in mono is vital for a mix but what do you usually listen to when monitoring in mono? what are the key elements you are looking to hear in a mix when in mono and hat is the right representation regarding to sound that you are mixing when in mono. It would be great to have more information about this process, thanks for all the knoweledge shared. Regards, Benjamin Arias
Benjamin Arias Monitoring in mono is important to hear if any phasing sounds are disappearing from the mix...these days we use meters to make sure there are no phase, but I still use the mono...This is very important if you're recording specially drums, and let's say the snare mic is phasing with the overheads...in mono you will lose some of the sound, or the volume of the snare itself will go down in mono...and this will affect the mix if you hear it on a mobile for instance or any mono system ! there are more to it, but this is one of the reasons !
David Boura two tracks that have some frequencies phasing is like +1 -1 = 0 ...in mono it will be cancelled totally ... so when you listen in mono you can notice these dead energies in the mix and try and change the polarity of that track compared to another track that is phasing with and you will solve this problem !
+Joe Mitri My ears are still so young (mixing/mastering speaking), i'm sadly not yet able to hear Phasing problems. Is there any tool or tip that could help?
+David Boura yeah Sure ! most of the DAWs come with a plugin called phase meter...you simply drop it on your master track and use it to find out if there is any phasing in your mix ! if your DAW don't have it...you can check Voxengo span..it's a free plugin, the only thing you will face that the name of the phase analyser is "correlation meter". lots of plugins call it this name and the other lot call it phase meter and some phase analyser. ..all of them do the same job.. detect the phase in your mix
"Check your phase" What does that mean? I know phasing as only a deliberate effect created either with a phaser (duh) or e.g. back in the day when dj-ing with vinyl, playing the same track on both decks, and generating phase effects by gently touching the vinyl.
Hi Dave, great video. have you had a chance to try out surfer EQ by sound radix? Its an eq that follows specific instruments along the mix bus. IE only boost guitars in this range. Its super slick.
Can you guys suggest me a site for downloading SERUM VST for Free? I have been looking for ages, but cant find a working download link...seems like Xfer records disable them immediately:( I would love to buy it,but iam broke...any help would be appreciated.I heard SERUM is great.
+mibungiable Yea its super awesome!U can download it from "crackedstuff . Net".They have 60+ VSTs available. But it comes with a surveys...i suggest you to create a new email and used that for surveys,it took me less than 10 minutes to finish everything, they have single download links so you dont have to download multiple rar files. I heard "audiobang . net" is also good, but they split the files into many parts so its more time consuming.
I'm perplexed by the eq plugin rave. Am I totally wrong thinking that they all essentially do the exact same thing, and it just comes down to how well you know how to eq?
+Barkeroni Plugins have different features and filtering or boosting schemes, and are written differently under the hood, so much like analog gear, their output(processed) sound is different.
+Barkeroni Apart from the shape of curves, and analogue modelling...you have how they execute and phase the signal... You can easily tell linear phase for regular EQ in an a/b test, but these modelling ones all have varying amount of phasing going one which might be in a musical sounding way.
Dave ..., Panipulator (free) is made by BOZ ! (you said DBL , or BBL ? which is incorrect) .., This correction is worth special mentioning as BOZ are a very small company and also make excellent plugins .
That's just silly. What about things like saturation, distortion, delays, reverbs etc. Also, while your native DAW plugs can provide all those thing to some extent, there are plenty of external plugs that do a much better job.
4freedomification wellllll...he did say "NEED". I'll give him that, and I suppose an experienced engineer could make a great mix with only the stock EQ and compressor if they had to, but who actually has to??
I can't help but think that everything in this video can be done with stock plugins so there is absolutely no need for these :-/ Unless you're a plug in hog :P
***** It would be pretty easy to do in Ableton actually. Split your frequencies up in an empty multiband rack (using chains). Then drop a Utility on each separate band that you have created which will allow you to pan that frequency band. You could also put an EQ 8 on the band as well to dial in whatever you need.
Lets be real. Plugins suck unless you use them for subtractive eq, enhancing effects or panning effects. I know people in the industry who been doing this for years and made billboard hits and they told me the same thing. You need hardware if you want that pro sound. Analog gear. Plugins will only give you a headache because no matter what interface you have its still going to sound terrible, smeary and unpolished. The cost of building such a studio will cost from 60000 to 100000 dollars. The cheapest route to go is find someone who owns great pro hardware and have them mix it and mastering for you. Ive heard mixes done on protools hd with only plug ins used and it sounded like crap. No punch and little clarity on the print track. Plugins are used for on the fly mixing and mastering then when you take the mix to a real studio you replace the plugins with hardware gear but just maintain those settings. Thats how they do and thats how you use plugins. Not for the finished product but for on the fly mixing. Hope that helps.
Unless you like a thin sounding mix with no punch. Analog is the way to go and the end result in mastering. I will always use analog gear routed through protools with clead AD conversion. Dave does the same thing trust me.
Who are these people and what songs? Where they hits? Did you see the entire process from start to finish to back up these claims? Im curious to hear your response. After your response i will allow one my industry buddies to comment for me who already have billboard hits under their belt.
I love Dave Pensado; *AMAZING* engineer! _Always_ helpful... But I can't help feeling like he _JUST_ finished stuffing his face with McDonalds. You can hear it in his voice. I'd _really_ hate to see the guy drop dead of a heart failure.

great video! Love finding new plugins, more toys to play with
Love this guy, so friendly and happy to share his huge amount of knowledge. Thanks.
Hi Dave,

Thanks.
Love the Slick EQ plug in...thanks Dave
Big up Boz Digital. All their plugins are fantastic. Got a new Compressor coming soon.
Wow, I look for free plugins all the time but I've never ran into these. Definitely going to download, thanks!
Timing on this couldn't be better, after years of exclusive Reason use I just bought Studio One Professional as a compliment, and am on the hunt for good cheap VSTs. Will definitely be looking at all of these, thank you!
Thanks so much Dave!

Dave, that does sound really good in mono!
I have that Slick EQ but haven't really played with it, now I definitely will. Thanks as always Dave!
the cool part about the tokyo dawn labs plugin is for pretty cheap you get a version with way more features and eq curves and a nice tilt eq.
Thank you putting this excellent video together...I have since acquired panipulator...
thats smooth as heck, did i just say heck? thats smooth as hell :)
I love that slick eq, it was made in partnership with VOS who makes some awesome free plug ins.
Thank you for sharing this vid. I will gift these Plugs to my brother who just started. I´ve got a good set-up, already which allowes me to do all of these stuff which sound as great as my starting material and they come also for free with my DAW.
All of the Tokyo Dawn stuff is amazing.

To check gain of panned instruments, to have a way better idea of how the track sounds in "average".
The 2 only things i knew until Joe's comment ;)
David Boura two tracks that have some frequencies phasing is like +1 -1 = 0 ...in mono it will be cancelled totally ... so when you listen in mono you can notice these dead energies in the mix and try and change the polarity of that track compared to another track that is phasing with and you will solve this problem !

Ooo dave that sounded really good in mono
WOOO! Shout out to GRAHAM of RR!!! You've EARNED it man!
Thank you Dave, I will be trying these out.
All 3 of these are great!
"Check your phase"

Love these videos! Thanks Dave
So the Panipulator, can it be used to actually change the track to mono?
Cool demo, thank you.
kvr is great! def one of the better forums for music.

+mibungiable download utorrent and find the torrent bro..go to kat.cr or thepiratebay.se or btdigg.org
hope you get a virus :)
Maybe you can do a video about TokyoDawn Mastering Compressor. Its called TDR Kotelnikov. Would be very nice. BTW Love your videos!
Beatmaniacs.de I agree! I downloaded it and still can't really figure out how to use it properly
Nova is amazing.
for your 200th show!!!!!

@ 0:32 He speaks about his favorite website, I cant understand what website He speaks about. Could you give me the name of it? Thanks anyway
Think it's 'Pro Tools Expert' - worth checking out!
@@PiscesRising I think he says "Ross over Mike at Pro Tools Exporter"
Hi Dave,Could you share please the sites you are using?
"That's smooth as heck!... Did I just say heck?... That's smooth as hell!..."
Can you do a iPad plugins must have ?
Nice! Thanks DP, downloading right now :)
You rock Dave
Dave ..., Panipulator (free) is made by BOZ ! (you said DBL , or BBL ? which is incorrect) ..,

Pens ado your the man!
Thanks for that Dave :)
do know where to get waves vocal rider free
Awesome!
thnx for this video ..
the directional eq isnt free anymore... :O
You'd think an audio engineer wouldn't let his voice clip in a video he puts online.
Sadly the ddmf EQ is not free (anymore?)
$40 is a bit much for me to pay for panning frequencies... right now.
This guy sounds like me addict to the net!
+Intensity Harris How can you not love this guy!!!!!
enjoy your videos. it'd be nice if your samples would be more musical.
I'm far and away from simple drum beats
is it me or is that track clipping. pretty hot signal there :)
Thanks a lot!!!! -- great help #:)
The only two plugins you need is your native EQ and Compressor from your DAW.
That's just silly. What about things like saturation, distortion, delays, reverbs etc. Also, while your native DAW plugs can provide all those thing to some extent, there are plenty of external plugs that do a much better job.

must have or, look at this thing I found?
ddmf directional eq is not free. just the demo
+O J He never said it was.
Did I just say heck? I mean thats cool as hell
sometimes it is good to try out news
why does he have a hole in his neck?
fat
Without being either gay or even homophobic - your eyes are beautifully blue/ The rest you know it rocks :)
after he mentioned these tools, they aren't free anymore....
I can't help but think that everything in this video can be done with stock plugins so there is absolutely no need for these :-/ Unless you're a plug in hog :P
How would you do directional eq?
it's the ease at which you can do these things with these plugins, althought that slick EQ is special i would say it is very very very smooooth.
*****
It would be pretty easy to do in Ableton actually. Split your frequencies up in an empty multiband rack (using chains). Then drop a Utility on each separate band that you have created which will allow you to pan that frequency band. You could also put an EQ 8 on the band as well to dial in whatever you need.
OneCoinOnePlay In what way is that easier?
Spero Allen only asked how you would do a directional eq. Easier or not, it's still pretty simple.

Ali said he mixed every record TDE released over the past few years in Pro Tools with plugins. Sorry, try again.
What about the mastering smart guy
Unless you like a thin sounding mix with no punch. Analog is the way to go and the end result in mastering. I will always use analog gear routed through protools with clead AD conversion. Dave does the same thing trust me.
tj mack I am a firm believer that it's the man, not the machine, who makes it work.
