Found your video a couple of months ago and been meaning to give it a try. Did it today and worked a charm - super quick thanks to your video and clear breakdown. Sincerest thanks!
Glad it helped.
I've been on covid for 2 days now. I thought of starting the ps3 again play gt5, fight night, fifa. Etc. N the control was jumping kicking on its own.. I did wat u recommended.. omg .. like new!! U save my sanity for 4 more days of isolation!
Fantastic guide, and great explanation of what the issue is. My DS3 just went berserk with phantom button presses and I was able to fix it easily after watching. Thank you!
I'm glad the vid was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Mate, This video fixed my controller. Can’t believe how easy it was. Many thanks from a bloke in Aus. Cheers
I'm glad my video helped.
thank you, this video was a big help. keep up the good work!
Thanks for the vid. This helped keep me from having to trash my favorite controller. I did this, replaced the battery, and now it's like new again.
I has my PS3 for months. It worked fine at first, then it started to bug out. Thanks for this tutorial!
Like many of the comments state, this really worked and fixed my favorite PS3 controller. I ended up using a stack of sticky notes and it worked fine. Thanks so much for this video it’s really hard to find genuine PS3 controllers these days!!
When cleaning the membrain/ribbon, what happens if you clean it using a standard or normal alcohol? would it stop breaking? and can you also use regular sticker paper for the foam?
Hi, thank you for the great tip on fixing this particular problem..
which battery do you purchase when replacing them on this particular controller
thank you
Could you just tape 10 of the 1mm together to make a new single foam?
I accidentally spent 2 hours fixing my controller because I accidentally deconstruction the whole thing and took forever trying to fix it. Your tutorial still worked great and I will hopefully do it correctly in the future 🙏.
Glad the video helped.
Thank you very much! I love PS3 so much! Thanks!
Totally works. My problem was pressing on the left stick and for some reason that caused activity on the right stick without moving it. Did a complete cleaning and everything's working fine now. Thanks!
glad the vid helped.
Thanks for the video ❤
Thank you much for the video! Finally solved my controller issue because of this.
Glad the video helped
. It's a great system.
Thank you, very helpful!
Glad it was help to you.
Hey man, you are a life saver! Thank you from Malta (Europe) :)
I'm glad the video helped.
Something’s wrong with my ps3 controller the problem is that something I press activates triangle or R1 due to the couple of times the controller been dropped but the controller is really in good condition, I just don’t know how to fix it
Thank you for the video, solved my problem!
I'm glad the video helped.
i too opened my ps3 Dualshock3 but the board is different from inside, i cant push the joysticks and pop the green board like u did in the video
Could you make a tutorial about fixing PS3 controller which buttons sometimes doesn't work unless pressing it fully. I've tried everything, nothing helps. I've added some layer to the bottom of the film, cleaned all over film and buttons.. nothing helps
Is it possible to just buy that foam piece off of ebay or Amazon? I might try this but I'm not really mechanical savy i never disassembled a controller before.
My ps3 controller has the phantom ghost in it as well, but, my circuit board is half the size and doesn't have that black foam, i did find something that is black, but, it's different, anyway, I did put something under it, but, it didn't help
Thank you so much. I finally fixed my controller
Glad I could help.
What screwdriver is that? Why does nobody say what one it is? The screws simply just will not come out
Many thanks, I was just about to throw away my controller. This fix was so easy, I can't believe it!
Glad my video helped.
Sir, can I use vini tape instead of foam tape?
Thanks so much! I was able to fix a controller I got from eBay that was supposed to work.
I'm glad the video helped.
Can we also use selllotape? Please tell
Thank you so much! Your tips made me SAVE my remotes!!! Wonderfull!!!!
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad it helped.
You saved my day thank you!
Glad the vid helped.
How did you fix the one that goes crazy after replacing the battery? Can it be the new battery?
The analog sticks keep going up on mine, but is fine on the games but the ps button functions but not properly for example if I wanna long press to turn off it won’t do it… and it was working fine I had to fix the trigger buttons, it is super frustrating
i love this video, thank you
Glad it helped.
please can you do the fix the controller but it's an xbox controller or an gamesir controler please 🙏
Hello friend. Great video! I am desperately looking for an answer to something I came across while refurbishing my own ps3 controller. While disassembling a "tri wing" peice came out and I cannot figure out where it goes. I'm assuming the D pad or button pad but I don't understand the orientation. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
email me a picture of the part, and I will try to help.
You are living in my dream. No disrespect!
Please help. I have a another controller that also have a faulty R2 button (random presses) and despite of cleaning the controller motherboard and even changing the conductive film it's still have the same issue.
If you replaced the ribbon, and made sure that the foam is still good... and it's only that one button having issues... there could be a problem with the main board itself.
Here in 2023. Bought a controller at a local pawn shop today that had this issue. I didn’t have any foam to fix it, so I just cut a piece off a small stack of sticky notes. Controller works perfectly now.
My issue is with the R1 button working on its own, could that also be the tape/foam issue? Great video by the way, so much is thrown away today, the skills of DIY repairs are few and far between.😀
Yes. The R and L buttons are on that ribbon also. And thanks for the complement.
I e got this issue now my r1 button keeps pressing by itself it’s fairly new aswell
do you have any tips on how to remove stripped screws on these controllers? I'm trying to fix it like you did, but I just can't remove that particular screw.
You can get a tool kit for this. Blue tac can help too.
If they're not too far gone yet, then make sure you have a decent screwdriver with the biggest size end that will fit into the screw and press it in really hard while very carefully and slowly turning it(while keeping the force pressing down). Once you get it loose you can release some of the pressure. I tend to try and unscrew the rest of it by hand at this point.
Put a thin rubber band in the hole and press really hard with the screwdriver, should give it enough grip
I thought my ps3s were broken. Turns out the controllers are the issue. Thanks for the info!
Thanks. This completely fixed the problem on the PS3 controller. Now i can play elden ring without the controller drinking every potion i have :D
Hey great video! Mine was working fine until the battery died. I bought another one which was better but slightly bigger, then the "ghost" inputs started on the D pad, ahhhh! Can this fix that or should I order the correct one?
This will absolutely fix ghost inputs on a PS3.
I bought a lot of PS3 controllers to have a go at fixing. They all have the same issue when plugged in to gamepad tester. D-Pad and L2/R2 constantly pressed [50% pressed]. I've cleaned everything. Not sure foam will fix them but it's worth a try.
On the ps3.... more pressure on that ribbon almost always fixes it.
@@PghGameFix I actually tried two other gamepad testers online and 3 out of 4 controllers were fine which is good, but it leaves me with a little bit of doubt. The fourth one has some sporadic presses on the right side so I've order some neoprene and hopefully that'll do it.
What screwdriver size do you recommend? Thanks for your video!
a #1 Philips is all you need.
It takes 5 seconds to use a new shipping label and stick the pad on the adhesive side, tear and stick several times. Then cut it flush around the pad. Masking tape would also have the same result.
Whatever you have to "Shim" the foam will work. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this! PS3 controllers are one of the worst vintage controllers. They break so easily!
If I don't have foam tape what can I use as a replacement?
You need something that is firm, but will compress to hold the connection tight.
Yo lo que hago es pegar los contactos con cinta adhesiva, me aseguro así que no se mueva, y también le pongo cinta adhesiva a la pieza acolchada negra para que ocupe más.
This unfortunately didn’t work after 3 long hours of not being able to get the small triggers on, as after getting one part on resulted in all parts falling off. After many attempts I managed to get that sorted but the two main parts of the controller do not go together. Putting too much pressure on them causes the triggers to detach again, this makes multiple attempts occur. I would love to be helped because after research there are no controllers that are DualShock that are less than £50, this is quite expensive and I wish I could fix it for free, thank you!
I cant get the joystick to work on GranTurismo only the directional pad works
You may need to check the settings of that game.
is there any substitute for the foam tape?
Yes, any kind of tape that is somewhat thick (duct tape, electrical tape, etc.) will work as long as you put it under the foam.
Love ncaa 14 but I was being driven insane by my runners hurdling or pitching the ball onto the ground on every carry. Had a small strip of adhesive foam lying around, worked flawlessly. Excellent instructions, controller is like new now
Glad it helped and thanks for watching.
Could you provide a link to the tape used for the fix in the video?
Any thin foam table will work. 1mm to 1,5mm. I looked on Amazon, and all the packs are on the expensive side, and you only need a small amount. I'm sure you can find something at a local store
I have the R and L buttons doesn't work sometimes, how can I fix them ?
It would be the same. Those buttons are on that ribbon.
I tried this and now my controller won't switch on :(
I watched this guide after I did the same thing to my controller and all I did was add a couple layers of paper. It’s crazy how Sony messed up on the design of the ps3 controller
And when I'm pressing R3 and nothing happeneds, what can I do with it? Thank you
the switch or ribbon could be bad
You sir are very helpful! Did this on my original ps3 controller brought in 2012 and it worked! Big thanks because of this video you made I can play the games I played in my childhood. Thanks
Did it step by step, was extra careful and succeed reassembling but now when its time to start the controller it isn't coming on,just showing the charging lights
There could be actual damage to the ribbon.
@@PghGameFix nah dont bother 😂 i tried again and succeeded so thank youuuuuuu 🫂 and thank you for replying
Ps3 controller when i plug it's PS BUTTON working itself other all the buttons are dead that time it happens every 1 mint or 30 seconds sometimes its not connecting reply sir I'm from India
I would start by taking it apart, and cleaning behind the buttons, and putting the foam where the ribbon meats the board.
@@PghGameFix ok thank you
@@PghGameFix if you have little time or Don't mind please make a video that's help me a lot because its India no one fix it we need to buy new it's price to high if u have time then please
@@omparkash5557 I can do another ps3 vid
@@PghGameFix okk
Mine ps3 controler button not working🥲. How to fix this
The video should show how... but if you follow it, and it still doesn't work, you may need to replace the membrane.
When I click in the left stick other random buttons gets pressed, do you think this is the problem?
Random button presses ONLY happens when I click in the left stick. But since I’m clicking the stick down I obviously put pressure on the controller probably disconnecting the ribbon since the foam isn’t as thick anymore to hold it in place when I put pressure on the left stick.
My guess is that it’s the problem you described in the video… What do you think?
@@Rawzix Yep. Put new foam in the connection of the ribbon.
@@PghGameFixok thanks, is it okay to use electrical tape or do you recommend getting foam tape specifically or changing the foam altogether?
@@Rawzix If you have new foam, I would recommend using it.
@@PghGameFix thanks for all the help decided to use foam tape like you did in the video and the problem is now fixed! again thank you so much!
Bro I want the 4 plz
When I had PS3, the joystick on the left use to get stuck lot of times.
When they wear out... they can stick. It's easy to change the entire stick unit.
@@PghGameFix Awesome I wish I knew that back in ps3 days lol
my ps3 controller is spazzing out and it makes gaming unplayable i hope this tutorial gets my controller fixed
I just turned foam upside down and all good.
For a short time. Since it's already compressed... it will drop pressure quick.
i bought that controller and it doesn't work (pc)
It may be compatibility with the game. Check it with gamepad-tester.com/
he has the same controller I have and mine has the same problem
oh just remove the R1/2 L1/2 he says, as it peels the board out of the button making it difficult to put it back together to the point I'd rather just throw the thing in the garbage.
Dude pls see this comment, whenever I turn on my ps,it functions normally before entering the game, after entering the game,it immediately goes to the "quit your game "screen.and after turning off the ps, the controller is not turning off and the system starts all over again.
Plss see this comment
There is most likely an issue with the actual ribbon. I'm guessing there is a short in the traces of the "PS" button.
Lol when I press my left stick it started going crazy
If it's the stick.. it just needs replaced. If it's the D-pad... then this fix should work.
Actually worked. Although i used a rubber piece, very thick in addition to the foam. It worked only if i pressed it super hard with my hand when testing, so i also added another rubber piece in the back, glued on top of the foam that comes to serve that same purpose: to press the circuitboard. It is getting a lot of pressure now, but works a charm. Thank you!
Why the hell are you wearing a trucker cap indoors while doing repairs?
Wear a headlamp.
It's a game.... Kingdom Hearts.
@@PghGameFix It's still a trucker cap.
Weird wearing it while doing that.
If you're balding and are ashamed of it for some reason, we don't care about that.
Thanks a lot my controller doesn't work
Hopefully the vid will help you in your repair.
That was an other video
I have this exact problem but with my Playstation 4 controller how can I fix this please If anyone reads this help me out …
I haven't seen this issue with the PS4 yet. but there is a similar contact with the ribbon. Take it apart, and clean that contact, and look for wear on what holds it together.
@@PghGameFix thanks! I fixed it somehow but still got stick drift that’s unfixable without new parts 😭
