I was always told to get to the basement first or center of house if house explodes like some of neighbors houses did. The inner rooms of a house is usually the safest or only ones left standing. No outside walls and we only have one inner room in the house. Ai was aware of the mattress or cushions which we had in the closet since tornado warnings started popping up everywhere. We made it and I am ever grateful for it, but for sure, I never want to stay in a double wide modular home again when we have hurricanes because the tornados they are spawning are getting worse. If a tornado can suck up can an and throw them around; I’m sure they can suck up mattresses. Thanks for the tip.

Oh my! It the weather service did not put out an official notice that you all had a tornado and what strength it was, I’m sure it was hurricane winds. They started to spread out further from the eye wall as it started to weaken, which means a lot more people had hurricane force winds than was expected. I’m glad you all are ok!

Thank you and I agree but I’m sure my dad would think I got too excited over it. At least he’s here to think that though.

Oh no, I am so sorry! I don’t understand why boys/men don’t respond more quickly. You saw how slow my dad responded and it upset me. He did join us in the closet, but there is no reason to show bravery or curiosity at a time of danger. Bless you as well for sharing that so others know to take these storms seriously!

@@Kristen-z5v my child is 6 inches taller than me and I am disabled, there’s no way I could pick her up. She had been up early with shoes and socks on and ready to go at a moments notice. She had the dogs on a short leash and I scooped one up as we ran to the nearest shelter. Outside you risk debris and trees flying on you and slicing you to pieces or getting sucked into the vacuum of the tornado. Have you not been through a tornado before or had kids bigger than you are that you could pick up?

@@apriltom081828 yes ma'am I have, an f 5 here in Alabama we had thirteenth across the state. I am not trying to be rude but God works in mysterious ways. We remember who is Boss upstairs when things like this happen. It will humble you quick. I do not feel sorry for any loss that is from natural causes ( nature) you are alive and well. You should thank God for that alone. At least we know you do not have any demons that need to be washed off your back.

@Kristen-z5v oh I have been thanking Him! And it’s by His grace we were protected and saved as I prayed the whole time. I’m glad to hear you are a child of God’s as well! There are too few these days. I pray for more to see Him as the creator that He is and accept His son as our salvation.

I know, when I watched the video, it did not capture what real life revealed. I’ve told my family that saw this that this video was not an accurate depiction of what real life showed. Thanks for pointing that out, I wondered if others would not see it like we did standing there.

There are no basements in Florida. We can’t dig down far without hitting water.

We had them in Indiana and some in Texas but no house in Florida has a basement. Best choice then is the center of the house or a room with no outside walls, the only one we had was my dad’s closet.

Oh I did the whole time in the closet and we were left unharmed! Praise God!

Some people have to be retaught that because that can even be a trigger. I am able to do it but it does not ward off the symptoms, only any worrying or upset emotions I have. Many times the symptoms squeeze the entire trunk area making simple and automatic breathing impossible less alone diaphragmatic breathing. I happen to use biblical meditation but others have their go to methods and strategies that help. This wonderful lady in the video is showing herself in a state of vulnerability to educate others on what FND is like.

Closet won't help in a big one and Floridian's don't have basements.

lol, it’s my dad and he did ask if we wanted to see it form and I thought he was kidding, but he’s been in many tornadoes. And yes, he has only been in Florida since 2001, not a native Floridian. Just too laid back for me!

Thanks! There aren’t a lot of safe places in a modular home but we had the tornado warning of one about 15 miles south of us so I had my daughter have shoes on and dogs on a short leash ready to run in case. Had no idea we’d watch another one form! Thank God we were ready and had our plans in case!

I have lived through countless blizzards in the north and hurricanes in the south and I’d much rather go through a horrific storm in the south and lose power from that than be in a freezing blizzard and lose power. Way too hard to get warm in the freezing weather. Doesn’t matter where you live, there’s always something that can brew up or be unpleasant.

Certain media sources are a bit biased and it’s a shame because if people honestly want truth, that means we have to seek it on every source available. I have a disability that became severely flared up once inside so there was no way I would have made it to the car in time.

He is not a very quick responder and he is hard of hearing. He was right behind me the whole time even though his initial response was slow.

He had just been out putting a board on window, he put clothes on after we were safe.

It's Florida...this is a pretty normal thing to wear when hanging out at home..we dont get tornados everyday

Oh he realized it because he came and asked any of us to see what it looked like to watch a tornado be formed. I thought he was kidding so came to see and he may have been mesmerized by it but I wasn’t about to stay and watch it head right to us and not get to shelter in time.

That's why it's called fight or flight. I hope you are never faced with a paralyzing fear. Been there. Done that.

The hurricane had such immense pressure that is spawned numerous tornadoes. It’s not uncommon to see tornadoes before a hurricane makes landfall but it was incredibly uncommon to have as many as Florida did and one even broke the Florida record of tornado strength. EF3 I believe and was in our area.

​@@apriltom081828my cousin lives in Cape Coral, thankfully their house survived and them with it. My friend who is a storm chaser said there was a short lived EF5 in the middle of the spawn.

@@JohnCoffinsno worries, I’ve lived in Indiana and Texas in part of the tornado alleys and I can’t stand the gloom and cold of the north. I’ve been in tornado warnings before but have never been this close or watched it form.
