      @Misslou2425 День назад

      @diegolol8523 the one that don't have very succulent leaves are in a blend of 50% cedar wood mulch, 25% perlite, 25% potting soil. The ones with succulent leaves are kept more airy to prevent overwatering: cypress mulch chunks , dash of perlite and some cedar wood shredded mulch.

    Miss Lou, Im so happy to see this video! Your results are amazing. I live in the high desert, hot dry summers, and dry freezing winters. I have always been afraid to try growing Vandaceous orchids. Now I think I might be able to have success. Do you mind if I ask how often do you need to water them on average? I know it will vary so just an average will give me an idea where to start. Thanks so much, Sherrii 😊

      @sheiselwilliams1 am so happy this was helpful. I did the full watering routine some videos back. Check out the vanda Playlist. When they are outside in summer...EVEN though they are in pots l can water every 3 days or so and they get rained on when rain bothers to fall...and their roots are all fine! I unpotted one a few months back too....no decicated roots! It can be done! Especially for those of us in dry climates. I was already at 26% humidity just a few days ago in Ohio. Today it is higher at 39% ...not a favorite for vandas. But when potted in airy materials....it works 💚

      @lizberezin2919 Awww, no way! I wonder what went wrong? I have never had any trouble starting new plants from this old plant. I started one last year for my child and it took off immediately. Try again! Cuttings ...soil should be airy...pumice works for most people but l try to avoid it because it is so irritating for our lungs... and once you stick them in the soil, water the pot.....place the pot in shade. Even full shade. ( exposure to sunshine dries out the cuttings. Don't water for another week or so... then water again. I never even use rooting hormone with mine, but if you have that on hand...try it too. Best of luck!

    FRAGRANCE UPDATE: this vanda has dropped that spike in this video... And now has two large spikes coming along! 😂. The fragrance has no resemblance to the fruity, rich fragrance of Merrillii... None at all. It smells very similar to a Vanda Batram that l used to grow a long time ago. Sharp floral, sweet undertones with a hint of that pine - like tang. Not a gourmand sugary candy note at all .. as expected and seen on merrillii. It very well may be part Denisoniana too 😂. We shall never know....

    So glad I wasn’t the only one, i was wondering why my V. Gregg Scott is blooming pure yellow (I also got mine from Plantino la Orquidea). I have doubts about the parentage of my plant - even if the tessellata parent used were the alba form, it would be difficult to breed a line full of bright yellows when the other parent is supposed to be merrillii. Mislabeled plants are no big deal and normally I am pretty forgiving--but yours and mine had previously bloomed (several times) before they were sold, so the nursery would have noticed the blooms are not of V. Greg Scott - before selling the plants. Website list shows dark form “parents” 🤔- be a miracle to get bright yellow blooms with parentage like that. Clearly mislabeled. What a wonderful idea! I have to try this with a vanda rescue I have that came to me in regular potting mix, very dehydrated and infested with scale. I unpotted it, removed the dead roots, and treated it for the scale that is gone now. It has only a few roots left, lost several bottom leaves, and is still somewhat dehydrated, but it's alive. I have it in a 10" pool skimmer basket, soak the roots every other day, mist it daily, and have it next to my humidifier, but I live in a desert area. The remaining roots are still alive, but I haven't seen any new root growth yet. I would love to be able to keep more moisture around the roots without keeping them wet and give it something to support it in the basket. I think this might just be the perfect solution!

      Ahhh this will work swimmingly for you!!! I have several friends in dry areas that have tried the pool noodles/ basket liner method and had Greta root growth success!!! Personally l have to do it because of very dry air all the time. Good luck, friend!!! 💗
