hello
Thnku so much 🥰
Such an informative video! I do have one question. I have a degree in information science and engineering and have been working in thr IT industry for some time now, but I want to do a full time LLB, for the complete experience and more comprehensive study. Can I start with a bachelor's degree just like a student fresh out of higher secondary? Thanks again ma'am!
Hi Safura! Thanks for watching the video! Glad you found it informative! Yes you absolutely can do a bachelor law degree. You have the options of an LLB (undergraduate program for 3 years) or an LLB program (postgraduate program for 2 years). You’ll have to take a look at schools of your desired preference (I.e location/tuition/reputation) and choose. I do know City University offers both of the options I’ve listed above. 😊
Hey i am from india now i am graduated with bachelor of arts with English literature this degree is non law degree and i want to be a barrister then which course is better is 1 year conversion course or llb which is better
Lol shady way of becoming a lawyer I love the irony
Not shady at all! The way we do law school now hasn’t been the way historically though universities have existed for sometime. For example a lot of lawyers in the UK have historically spent more time in apprenticeships under other lawyers and learned to become lawyer primarily by attending court not sitting in class. So the GDL & LPC/BVC route is a nice combination of old & “new” ways 😊
Hi sorry, do u mean prepare for the tutorials or study for the workshops plz?
Could you please let me know what minute mark you are watching in reference to the question? Generally I mean study and prepare for tutorials. You’ll get more out of the short time you have with your tutors that way. You can ask more questions and receive more clarification.
@@EdinamMacDeh 13:09 I am currently doing the GDL and we have workshops (meaning in class group exercises where we get problems and have them corrected) and there r also tutorials where the teacher teaches and there is no obligatory group work
@@bobcatthekittykat1075 Okay so in your case I mean prepare thoroughly for workshops. What you call workshops, were labelled tutorials for me. And what are tutorials for you, were simply called lectures for me 🙂
@@EdinamMacDeh thanks a million. Please keep going. This is some excellent content here. I’ve subscribed
Do barristers cover medical Negligence?
Is it true the pay of barrister is terrible ?
Can I take the BCAT while doing my GDL?
Hi Tafisha! Yes you can! Just do the necessary practice quizzes to prepare.
Thank you so much for this video Edinam. I’m also from Ghana and I’m planning on starting my GDL very soon. Seeing that you were able to make it gives me so much hope. God bless you
Hi Vanessa! I’m glad to hear you’re encouraged! God bless you too and be with you on your journey! 🙏🏾
Thanks
Without PGD course, is it possible to complete GDL course? Some persons argue that it is very hard to cope up GDL course without PGD course. Is it true?
If by PGD course you mean Postgraduate Diploma then NO you don’t need a PGD to do the GDL. You NEED an undergraduate degree in order to qualify for the GDL in the UK. So 3 or 4 years of study at the graduate level in any area- doesn’t have to be law. Hope this helps!
The GDL in itself is a PGD.
Hello Edinam. Thank you very much for your succinct and insightful expository of your legal journey. Please, I will be sending an email to you soon 🙏.
Responded :)
May I get your mail to know regarding barrister.....I m from India planing to do this course in this year

Can i persue gdl after completing the llm?
Yes you can!
@@EdinamMacDeh thanks mam
Mam which university is best for LLB(2year course) and is the fast track llb is lucrative and worthy? Swansea university Hertfordshire Notingham trent Greenwich Brunel
Good morning Ma'am I am non- uk law graduate i.e from India completed law and want to become barrister in uk .what is best route? Whether I ll do GDL or LLM in Uk to become Barrister? And procedure . Kindly co-operate me. I am getting puzzle and still not clear which one best for me to become Barrister and time saving . Hoping you ll reply Thank you ma'am
Hi Elias! I apologize for the late response. If you are a non-uk law graduate, who has not yet started practicing you’ll need to do the GDL or a UK LLB (in England & Wales or Scotland depending on where you want to practice). You need to have studied English law in order to become a Barrister if you are not already a practising Barrister. In terms of the LLM you can take an LLM without doing the GDL or LLB. However that alone will not qualify you for practice in the UK. Hope this helps !
Edinam, thank you so much for this video. I saw this after applying through UCAS for Senior Status LLBs. As an international student, this video made me feel comfortable enough to apply for GDL programs and now I am even preferring to complete a GDL! Thank you so much for so freely sharing this knowledge in a consolidated place <3
Hello! I'll be done with my undergraduate degree (from India) in engineering in 2023. I want to pursue law, is the Senior Status LLB better than the GDL? What would you recommend?
Is bcat exam difficult?
No it’s not, but it is ideal to do practice tests beforehand to make sure you’re familiar with the test 🙂
@@EdinamMacDehthanks mam for your reply i want to be a Barrister in uk and i recently completed LLB(hons) in my Country. Now which course i need to pursue to be a Barrister in uk?

Hi!! Is there any way I can get in touch with you? I've emailed you before but perhaps to the wrong email or at the wrong time :) Thank you for all your hard work
Hi Pragya! My apologies but I didn’t not get that email sadly. But I have responded on LinkedIn just now 🙂
Thank you so so much! I re-sent the email. I hope I sent it to the right place.
Would you consider selling your notes, they are so good. If so please let me know !!
I promise you those notes look much better than they actually are 😅. You need to select your topics as you go and delve deeper into the readings for those instead of trying to do all of them. Then simplify your notes as you go. That's the best advise I can offer, but at this time I cannot offer you my notes. If they do become available subsequently I will let you know. Sadly I simply don’t have access to them atm. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you so much edinam I'm an international student and i don't know anything about how difficult is the education system in uk May you please tell me wether there is any source of any site to get the past year exams with sample answers And also like overall is it too difficult to pass the gdl and bpt exams ?
Hi! You’re very welcome! I do not know if any specific sites that have the correct format of GDL exams. However if you do want to practice, looking up past LLB papers would be useful too. The GDL and BPC are difficult because of the breadth of material needing to be covered in a relatively short period of time. That is the challenge. So your success will depend on your time management skills, and practice of each topic covered in each module.
I’m searching this course so if you okay I have some questions. Many law schools in UK have the GDL course? And regardless of school every those courses would be treated equally when getting job in the future?
Not many law schools, there are a specific set of GDL providers. Please watch my video below and check the description box for links to the GDL schools. When getting a job, your grades and resume would be of utmost importance ruclips.net/video/ioj-1PieuHM/видео.html
I just got done with my degree and wanted to know more about GDL at City itself. Thank you so much for this video! it really helped. I just have a question that how will I secure pupillage? will the uni or BPC help in securing it or is it unto me?
Hi! Very glad this video was helpful ! In respect of Pupillage that is in fact unto us, ourselves. The best help that can be offered during application stages may be given by your Inn in the form of mock Pupillage interviews and other informative sessions on the Pupillage process. But that entirely depends on your Inn as not all of them do this. Inner Temple I know does. Other help can come from friends or family who have been through the process if you have any. I’d suggest taking on mini- Pupillage and building a professional relationships with Barristers and Pupils while on it - you may be lucky enough to get some advice and guidance from them as well for your applications. All the best!
@@EdinamMacDeh thank you so much!
Thanks your advice
Very welcome !
Hi when doing the GDL scholarship application. Do you need your GCSE/A-level certificates ?
You’ll have to check the specific requirements of the scholarship guarantor. To answer more generally, it’s always best to have your undergraduate transcripts, A-level and GCSE transcripts on standby. Transcripts not just certificates.
Hello! Thank you so much for this video. I’m an American considering the GDL at City to qualify as a barrister as well. I wanted to ask how important grades are from the GDL (distinction, commendation), to secure pupillage and how hard these scores are to obtain? Thank you!
Hi! So the grades are incredibly important in securing Pupillage! A great grade like a Distinction (along with a great track record in your undergraduate studies and CV/Resume) can help you secure a Pupillage offer before you do the BPC! I’ve known colleagues who were able to use part of their Pupillage award to pay for their BPC (formerly called BPTC). So it’s very important. The pass mark for each exam is usually (still is at the moment) 40%. They are not easy exams to pass as marking is very strict and higher marks are awarded to the answers that best produce the right assessment of the relevant areas of law and critical analysis of case law in relation to the scenario given in the essay question. The more ground you cover in study and exam practice before the period of exams the better you will do. I have a video on how to study for the GDL exams- please give that a watch too! I wish you the best of luck on this journey!
@@EdinamMacDeh Excellent, thank you! just watched your other video, really helpful and brilliant advice! Much appreciated. Best of luck to you as well. Cheers!
You are so welcome!
One correction: the US and is a common law jurisdiction (with the state of Louisiana having some civil law elements left from the French) and Canada is common law everywhere but Quebec which again was french. You can actually practice in the UK, Ireland, Australia, US, Canada, & Hong Kong (probably more that I don't know) with a law degree from any of these countries and a couple extra steps (either exams, a master's, or a short work experience depending on the jurisdiction).
Thank you for this! 👌🏾
Hey …what if I obtained my bachelors in Barbados …what path do I have to take to become a barrister in the UK?
Hi Dana! So far as you have a bachelors degree from wherever in the world you can undertake the GDL or 2 year LLB Honours. I answer your question in detail in this video and Part 2 to this video so please have a watch.
Thanks so much 🥺
You’re welcome! All the best!🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this!
You’re so welcome!
Hello! Thank you for your advice and videos. What is your take on doing GDL online part time? Is it harder and ineffective or just like campus-based option? Thanks
Hi Levy! I would say that taking the GDL online is a harder only because it requires more discipline. I would not say it is ineffective because the same resources and modules are delivered online and in person. And at the present time I know most GDL students are taking the course online. So the challenge is to continue to make it to class, stay on top of the material and be extremely proactive about seeking help from your tutors. Hope this is helpful. All the best !
What is the minimum qualification for joining GDL course at UK.. Any one can join after +2 in any stream?? And what's Limited Age for join
The minimum qualification for joining the GDL program is that you have an undergraduate degree (in any subject area) from any certified institution. There is no age limit as far as I know for joining the program. :)
I'm glad I discovered your channel..Your videos are really insightful..God bless you ma'am
I’m glad it’s useful! God bless you too!
Can you tell me if I give GDL I will become a full time lawyer with another undergraduate degree and I can become a practicing lawyer.
Hi Usman, You won’t become a full time lawyer with only the GDL. There are two professional courses BPC/BPTC and the LPC you must undergo after the GDL. Followed by a period of training. I have detailed this path I’m subsequent videos. And will soon expand on the BPC/BPTC as that is my only area of experience. Hope this helps. Do watch the rest of my videos for clarity.
I've been binge-watching your videos and You are really giving me hope. I graduated college in December I live in the U.S and I got accepted to go to school at the University of Law but I am so scared to move across the country. The reason is that the schools in America will put me in too much debt, Uk seems like a better option. Will you be able to talk more through social media or email? Again thank you so much for those videos!
Hi Emmanuella! Congrats on graduating college and also getting into ULaw! Those are huge achievements! It is a bug decision to move countries but ultimately for the reason you’ve stated it seems wise for you and if you’re ready to, I think you should take the chance! You can email me at edinammacdeh@gmail.com 🙂

Hi Mirza, Thank you for your offer, so kind. If you are looking for representation I advise you contact local and practicing lawyers to help you. I hope you’re able to find someone. I am just here to offer information on the academic and vocational side of law- nothing else.
Edinam Mac-Deh ok now I don't need a lawyer

Hi Mirza, hope you are well. If you are looking for representation I advise you contact local and practicing lawyers to help you. I hope you’re able to find someone. I am just here to offer information on the academic and vocational side of law- nothing else.
Hello, here is a prospective GDL student! Thank you so much for your informative video!! May I know if the institute of my GDL matters? Seems like people in UK preferred to have students coming out from BPP/UOL, is that true? As I just received an offer from other university, should I decline it and go for UOL/BPP?
Hi Kelly! The most important thing is how well you do! If you receive a Distinction at the end of your GDL program it is going to matter less where you got it from. Remember that there is a specific list of GDL providers and Chambers/Firms know this. So it only matters which one best suits your pursuit and circumstances. For example depending on if you want to take the LPC or BPTC after you might consider if your institute has produced more barristers or solicitors? If there’s more resources or help allocated for aspiring barristers or solicitors? What the exam timetable and structure looks like at each institution? Those factors should determine your decision not what seems to be the preference. I find that there’s in fact no preference. And if there is it that you have the highest possible award from your GDL not matter what the institute is 🙂. Make the decision you feel is best, and then make the best out of it !
Thanks a lot very helpful video indeed. As per my research one should be a member of one of the four Inns of Court by the time the course begins, how do we get there? or it is managed by the university we are enrolled in? And We will also need to pass the (BCAT) before the commencement of BPTC, is it difficult? I am an International student and planning to go for GDL then BPTC. Pls guide.
Hi Rabiya! You are right! With the Inns you can simply apply via their individual websites, however you may want to wait till you have been accepted into the GDL program or have begun it. You simply need to be a Member before you can start the BPTC year. The BCAT is not difficult. I followed all the guidance in the BCAT handbook, and did some practice tests online. www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/training-qualification/bar-qualification-manual-new.html?part=94844A47-08D8-437D-A17440AD1A7C596C&q= In this video I talk about the costs associated with BCAT and the Inn amongst others. Please have a watch. ruclips.net/video/7QgcR7EEsC0/видео.html Hope this helps!
May I have your email please?
Hi! Yes you may - edinammacdeh@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!
hey, I'm a lil late to ask my question but here goes: can I change the uni for bptc after doing gdl?
Yes you absolutely can. Given that you have to apply for the BPTC as well, you'll be given the options to choose your schools. And you're free to change it. :)
thanks for your reply! keep growing your channel!❤❤
