Trick to get your battery charger to START charging a dead battery
More like this, and yes, tripod is a great tool to have around :)
As said on another video, plan B to drive it as is. You have 2-3 decades of use in this truck, driving it like you do :)
Honestly.....with those kind of oil pressures, you easily have 2 or 3 decades of use left in the truck, with your use like this. Keep your foot out of the throttle, do not loan it out to anyone, and it will serve you for many years to come.......just like it is :) Super value added feature would be to make it a dump bed. Kits are out there, and then you truly would have the super tool for the farm in that truck.
@@devildog80 im not sure if you watcjed my prior vids.. but it had 1 or more delaminated cam bearings. Thats where the oil pressure went. Check prior vids where i took the oil pan off and found chunks of bearing all over inside. Its quiet... no tapping or any noises.. just low oil pressure. As for foot on the throttle around here.. i gatta drive 50-60 mph. To get anywhere. It drove fine to pickup this multch. But still i am weary.
@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 CM.....I have been following you for awhile now, over on FSJ Forum, and have seen what you have done with the truck. Just remember, anything you do to clean up the engine on the inside ie chemical treatments etc, do them slowly, and let time be your friend. Put a little MMO or Seafoam in the oil each change, and drive it. Let those work slowly, but realize if you clean it too much, old wear on bearing etc will show their faults at some point, and be the demise of the engine. Then you will need to put money into the engine. I grew up on a farm/ranch in ND, and my dad had some old tractors & trucks, that he used to put cleaner used oil in them from the family car or pickups we used for road miles. As we ran them only for a season or so throughout the year, it kept the engines running, without taking out all the residue from where it had settled in the engines. The equipment ran for all of my growing years, and only remember 1 or 2 actual engine overhauls needed on any of them, with this practice in place. Key was, he would change oil filters every year, but otherwise only added oil as needed, when it was the season for that tractor or truck to be used.
Always have the socket turned off when installing or removing led bulbs. Risk messing up the electronics inside if the socket is on, and yes it could be arcing the bottom point if the bulb if the socket is on. Also, sometimes the center connector inside a socket gets smashed down over use and doesn't make good contact unless you physically pull it back up a bit, and yes make sure the socket is off when doing this.
Double rainbow!! But what does it mean??

Had a plastic oil line fall on the header in my Cheyenne. Melted through and sprayed oil all over the headers. Started a fire in rush hour traffic. Thankfully my buddy has said the same thing about not having one, and lent me a fire extinguisher earlier that week. Now all my rigs and garage have one. Some lessons are learned the hard way lol
@@Harry_Dawg. i was a volunteer firefighter for ywars thats one reason.. but the other is these fullsized Jeeps like the wagoneer j10 j20 etc.. are known for electrical fires.. seen plenty in salvage yards burned up. Feit bulbs suck! I remember when my uncle got a 4 pack of Feit incandescents and all 4 bulbs failed within 2 weeks. I believe he put in GE bulbs after the poor experience with Feit, I believe he had the good GE ones from Mexico too, and those lasted a decent amount of time. They are GE 60W 1000 hour bulbs, so same rating as Feit, yet they actually lasted 1000 hours. Feit is terrible, regardless of their products, it’s not just MV lamps, but ALL their products.

Glad to see it is still running for you so you can keep up with your chores. That 8'-0" bed can carry quite a load, those old Jeeps were well known for being tremendous work trucks. My 1966 J - 2000 only works now when I get snow. I plowed with it last week for an 8" storm of wet , heavy snow and she ran and pushed just fine. I put a new cutting edge on my Meyer plow last year and repainted the plow by spray gun this year. It came out great and I hook the plow short by an inch or two so I do not dig up everything. My Uncle had a 1971 J - 4000 with the 8'-0" body and was a Farmer who used that truck hard all the time. He had a 350 Buick V8 and 4 speed low transmission with a Meyer Plow as well. He actually went through 3 engines in that truck but could not kill that transmission. When the pickup bed rotted off he put a dump body from a 1929 Ford on it that was laying around the farm as it fit inside the Jeep frame rails. Keep us advised on your progress. I am glad you are saving that old Jeep.

It's the BULB. Sodium vapor bulbs turn purple (the mercury ignitor) at end-of-life. I had one in my front yard nearly 30 years. Replaced with 100 watt HID (GE), replaced with 68 watt LED (GE) bulb. Same 43 year-old housing. The light from the last two isn't yellow. No more ballast for the LED. The HID and LED gave more than triple the lumens the sodium vapor bulb did. We'll see how long the LED lasts.

Heat cycling maybe? So the metal expands and contracts unscrewing the bulb slowly. It did not light up properly because the resistance of the contacts was too high.

Aaaack what a find. As for the oil filler, I observed the same, got the stainless filler from BJ's
Hi, is there a number i may contact you at ? i have a question about my carburetor on my ford 351 motor. Thanks,John
Well for being a mechanic for 20+ years, you should know that black oil is dirty. Black oil would contain carbon and sludge. Your oil on the other hand is silver/milky which is water intrusion and something coming apart. Water could be antifreeze or condensation (PCV valve) the silver is metal so something is coming apart inside the engine, oil pump, or main bearings.
That motor would be easy to pull lots of room and not much crap to deal with The running gear is more important than the body work that horse has got to eat and momma needs heat
Looking at a junk yard engine isn’t a bad idea as far as economics for now been there done that a few times Anything good on that motor you can just swap over give ya more time to save up and do what you want to er
Do some of your fixtures have loud ballast, I really love the sound of them
@@CadeRankin2006 onky one of the older ones. The others buzz when being turned on. But after 30 seconds or so they dont
Damn bro did you change the filter too? That oil is dirrty. definitely would run some diesel or kerosene through that engine to clean it up a lil and probably fill it with some cheap oil and run it for 15 minutes drain that and change it one last time
@@alexisgarcia-vg4jm check my prior videos of tge 1500 mile out change.. and me cutting the filter.. prior owner did not take care of it.. plus is sat for decades. But im shocked after 10 miles AFTER the 1500 mile one.. that ot came out this dirty. Unfortuantly it has silver in the oill dropped the pan and found a common issue with older and amc engines.. delaminated cam bearing material
My opinion... which is worthless to most probably. It is a massive risk to run the truck when you know for a fact that a bearing is gone. Running the risk of destroying the crank and rods and if more bearing let go you could put a hole in the block. Then you have nothing. Best thing you could do is find a used Running engine until you have the time and money to repair that one. Another option would be to find a running inline 6 cylinder for cheap until you repair the v8.
There is a running amc 360 near me for $700.
Glad to hear your gonna fix her up. Finishing the rebuild on my AMC 327 this weekend, so it must be something in the moon lol. Good luck! Staying tuned for more updates.
@@Harry_Dawg. lol must be.. not something i needed with all the other work that needs done on this and my other Jeeps.. but hey. But itll be awhile and ill keep driving it as it is until i get the stuff and money i need TO do this. Thanks
IMCO, you should have just left it alone and ran a little heavier oil. It's just a putt putt truck motor. I have high mile 401 in a J10. On a hot day idling in gear, it has like 2psi oil pressure. It runs fine and doesn't rattle. I drive it all over. Next time I change the oil, I'll go with 20-50 or some such. BTW, cam bearing delamination on 70s engines is pretty common.
@@jackofmanytrades4396 comparing mine to yours though apples and oranges.. you coyld just have a scored oil pump or worn out bearings.. my bearing is tearing itself apart and i had a fuck ton of metal in the pan. Including a handfull of eraser abd pin sized rusted metal chunks.. blocking the pickuptube in the back.. and on the bottom of the pan.. from that rusted out filler neck. Me taking the pan off and cleaning it up is something i wanted to do anyway.. as i wanted repaint it the valve covers, oil pan. dipstick handle.. filler neck and so forth like i did on ny wagoneer 2 years ago. If anything clearing the pickup from those chunks of rust and metal and the pan.. will keep the rod bearings looking like they are and not fuck those up either. As for leaving it alone ?? Leave what alone.. i drained thd oil saw sludge and silver and pulled the pan and bearing caps to look. Now i know what the problem is and i can work on saving to fix it. I dont plan on this being used only as a work truck forever.. i do want to register it.. repaint it make it look nicer once i finish the last bit of rust repairs on it. And have it be a daily like my wagoneer is. Watch my latest video to get an idea on my gane plan for it. Im not lutting 20-50 in it which can nake the issue worse actually. Itll be like honey and its winter soon. Ima stick with 10-40 for now and some rislone zddp or something. You act like i made the problem worse by investigating ? I had 10-30 in it originally
@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305All I know is that it's very hard to find a decent machinist these days, there are a lot of shit parts on the market, and a lot of shit advice on the interwebz to go with it. So, yeah, hard to believe as it may be, you might actually end up worse off than when you started. I've only been messing with AMC junk since the '80s. Best of luck. I seriously mean that. I love seeing AMCs that haven't been LS'ed. But it's getting harder all the time to keep them that way. Time and technology are marching on relentlessly.
@jackofmanytrades4396 i 100000%%% agree. I told those shops i do know there is a influx or bad quality cams and lifters on the market. and if my lifters and cam is still good (assuming) i do not want them replaced because i fear itll just create way more issues especially if they swap em with crap parts. If i can get away replacing the cam bearing and thats it.. thats all i wanna do. If the cam got wiped out due to the bad cam bearing. Then of course ill have no other choice. But judging how i have no ticks from the engine and the lifters all pumped up at the same time im hoping its still good. Ive delt with shitty parts on cars for over a decade.. they last 6 months while the originals lasted 20 years. I see countless videos and threads online of engine builders and guys who rebuild their engines on their cars, only for the cams to wipe and lifters go bad shortly after from poor quality crap Just what i need is to reolace good parts with shit parts. Thats my biggest worry. And i know amc replacement parts have quality issues. Water pumps. Timing covers and other crap. Im not ls swapping anything. My 5.9 98 grand cherokee is staying 5.9 magnum.. and my J10 and wagoneer will stay amc 360. Honestly. The 360 in this j10 as i said in the video has tons of power enough for me anyway. Now on my 90 Grand Wagoneer. That 360 with 145hp. Is lacking. It did tow my j10 ona flat bed fine though.. total weight was 6400lbs. And i had at least 300lbs in the back. Brush guard. Front rear bumper. Th400 and quadra trac. And my wagoneer weighs 5100lbs. Despite the crappy hp. Its still got decent torque. But going up mountain roads in VA towing it home.. wide open throttle i could only maintain 40mph and no more. So it deff needed more power. Its also very sluggish overall i cant really pass people easily and yea. To where as my 5.9 grand cherokee is like a rocket compared to it. But the J10 i never had that issue. It weighs 800lbs less than the wagoneer and has more power being a 76. So i can understand why people ls swap.. but im not doing that.. everyone and their mother does that and i hate being the guy who has the same crap as everyone else. Its like wrangler owners. Millions of them.. it isnt unique or cool to me. And ill never own one. Lets say i do have to swap an engine.. it wont be an ls ill put a 5.9 magnum in it just to give the ls swaps a middle finger
I would check with another machine shop. If they're saying that price is just to put cam bearing in it then that's high. You can rent a tool to put cam bearings in yourself.
@@HoustonReed-l5t no those prices were to clean and rebuild the engine basically. But on my nee video the bottom end is fine after i took the bearing caps off.. its just the top end. Most shops wanted $350-$400 to hot tank and put cam bearings in and i pick it up and put it back together. But tbh im ona severe budget.. So ill probly degrease and clean the engine out myself
Looks like you got lucky . I’d suspect that engines been rebuilt at some point as I doubt they stamp those numbers on at the factory , crank bearings and bores look like new . the pitting on the cam means it’s scrap and the lifters will need doing too. May as well put a fast road cam in for a bit more power, don’t mix up your bearings ect or get the caps in the wrong order/ backwards 👍 Circles are just marks from small soft metal debris/ contaminants , nothing to really worry about
@@jamesbarran-scott437 i nkticed those stampings. I cant remember if my other 360 had them or not but the age diff between them is also 26 years too. Ill ask on the amc forums. But yea the stampings had me wondering because i dont remember if amc did that or not As for the bearings looking new. My 360 in my 90 grand wagoneer when i took the pan off and inspected the bearings. They too looked brand new. So it might just be they have little to no wear and thats it.

@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 valve springs should be fine even with a slightly upgraded cam I’d expect, pushrods I’d check the condition- if they’re inexpensive probably just replace them anyway. Am i ok in leaving the pistons/crank/rod bearings alone ? They looked great to me tbh.. Every machine shop i called wanted to do an entire engine rebuild and i dunno how those shops work but that seems excessive if the bottom end is good like we saw in my other video. Is it easier to pull the engine out with the transmission or do i unbolt it with the tranny in the truck ? Im curious because i dont see how you can get a socket or wrench on those bolts with the fire wall 3 inchs away ? Just curious
@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 I’d strip it down just to inspect but if the bearings are ok then keep them, just leave them in the rods ect so they don’t get mixed, gearbox and engine usually comes out as one unit then separated, but I’m not a jeep expert.
