    Can I use my NAS as torrent host and share my file with everyone?

    • @techbytetips
      @techbytetips 3 дня назад

      Yes you can. As long as you share a torrent using this application or Download Station, your files will be available for people to download. Let's say for example, you create a video that you want to share. You can use QBitTorrent to create a torrent and share the Magnet link or the Torrent file to friends and they can download the file(s) that you are sharing from your NAS.

      Hi, thanks for visiting the channel. The series is on whether I believe that an open source software is a good or useful idea or not and why. If I were to go into the source code and analyze thousands of lines of code, it would not be a single video. This series is just to expose people to different open source applications that are out there and to also serve as feedback to developers creating things.

    Been having a great time following your tutorials and they are fantastic. Got a simple question. I setup qbit and everything seems to be fine with nord. Is there a way I can truly be sure through the qbit logs to see the ip address is the vpn one?

    • @techbytetips
      @techbytetips Месяц назад

      Hi, the logs should tell you where you are connecting and which IP it is receiving. You can always execute into the container and do an IP check in the command line. There is a website that you can CURL that gives you the Public IP that it recognizes... I just don't remember the name of it. curl icanhazip.com

    I use NordVPN's socks5 and it works like a champ. The cool thing about the socks5 is if your VPN goes down, you're still covered because the qBitTorrent won't work if the socks5 is down. If you only use VPN and it goes down, expect a nasty email from your ISP the next day.

    Great video! Thanks for showing how to install gluetun. I followed the directions and was able to install both containers. I also was able to point my other containers to use gluetun. However, after the change I no longer can get to the web UI for those containers. I checked and confirmed that all the access ports have been moved to the gluetun container and also tried adding ports to the router configuration in External access with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

    • @techbytetips
      @techbytetips Месяц назад

      I honestly don't recommend trying to run it in a NAS. This is more thought to be run directly in a VM that you can easily manage. They document that you have to use the gluetun network for all containers and you expose them in the ports that you assign to gluetun itself. It should work if the connection is setup properly and gluetun is exposing the port. You have to connect to gluetun and it will forward the traffic to the proper containers.

      @@techbytetips Thanks, I figured out the solution using Portainer. Stop container you want to use with gluetun. Use Duplicate/Edit to find Network Tab. Switch Network to container and pick gluetun in Container. Deploy container. Enjoy!

    I've now gone through this 3 times and during step 7 - make and image of a Pi, I see the /PXE files being copied from the Client-Pi to the Server-Pi. Then at the end the script actually removes everything but the /PXE folderon the Server-Pi, leaving it empty. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Net result is that I end up with nothing to provision.

      Hi Vic! I hope that you are doing well. Last time I tried it, it worked fine for me using the new bookworm version of the boot files. I was using a NAS though. It sounds like you are using the local storage in the PXE pi? I've been meaning to release an updated version with additional features but I have not had the chance to sit down and code + test. I will release a video on the update when I get the chance to do it.

    Isn't it enough to create a vpn profil (in network/interface) and connect to it ? No need to add the credentials to the container ?

    • @techbytetips
      @techbytetips Месяц назад

      Hi @aghiles2893, if you do that, all of your traffic will go through the VPN. It will slow down Usenet if you are also using it as it will be capped at the VPNs max speed.

      @@techbytetips but how would you go about accessing public torrents on prowlarr, if you disable the vpn profile for the whole synology nas?

    • @techbytetips
      @techbytetips 13 дней назад

      Hi @@cameronherman3380, I set a VPN profile in the NAS just to overcome the issue with the VPN not being able to connect in the docker container due to the /tun/tap error. I made a video on how to fix that later. You don't need to have the whole NAS running the VPN. It is actually bad for you if you are using Usenet as it will limit your download speeds. That's why the VPN is built into the QBitTorrent container. Prowlarr and other apps don't need a VPN. Only the torrent downloader needs to go through the VPN for your protection from ISP snooping and stuff related.
