Fretboard Bites: Benefits of String Burning
Просмотров 5392 года назад
A tip for part of the string changing process. Having had a few strings slip at the bridge over the years, I now burn the ends of the treble strings and often tie a knot as well... www.fionaharrison.co.uk
Fretboard Bites: Workout! Chromatic scale in 8ves.
Просмотров 5072 года назад
How to improve the left hand. Here's a chromatic scale in octaves. It's useful to develop left hand stretch especially if we listen really carefully to the smooth connection between the notes. I say I don't use open strings, but I DO! My mouth said the wrong thing! Apologies. www.fionaharrison.co.uk
Fretboard Bites: Vaseline magic! How to play fast.
Просмотров 5 тыс.2 года назад
How to play fast! Here's a top tip you might enjoy... Have you ever wondered why professionals sometimes touch their forehead or nose just prior to performing a piece? It's to get the grease! A small amount of the grease can help the right hand finger tips glide over the treble strings and is particularly useful when wanting to play fast with cold hands. I forgot to add in the video that I rub ...
Koyunbaba "Moderato" - Carlo Domeniconi Performed by Fiona Harrison.
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.2 года назад
"I had the pleasure of performing this work to Carlo Domeniconi in the early 1990s. He loved the unfolding improvisatory nature of the performance and was hugely encouraging. I enjoyed the way that Carlo suggested to play particular passages twice, or three times if I felt so moved and he gave me the freedom to explore, make creative decisions and move away from the score at times". Fretboard Bites: E maj 3rds Warm up
Просмотров 9202 года назад
A great warm-up to start the day! I often use this exercise to start my day. It's tuneful, warms up up the right hand in a non-stressful, relaxed way and allows the left hand to gently waken up. A firm favourite! www.fionaharrison.co.uk
Fretboard Bites: Develop your left hand stretch!
Просмотров 8372 года назад
A great stretch exercise for the left hand! I've found that some pupils can do it straight away and will use it as a daily warm-up whereas other pupils can struggle considerably. Remember never to hurt the hand - a gentle stretch for the fingers can be good, but pain is not. Think of the long game when developing left hand finger stretch, have patience and keep at it! For other tips and tricks,...
Hot Club Français - Gary Ryan Performed by Fiona Harrison

Fun, spirited piece by Gary Ryan. It's loosely reminiscent of a jazz group founded in France in 1934 by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli. "The Quintet of the Hot Club of France". Performed here by Fiona Harrison www.fionaharrison.co.uk Recorded on a Christopher Dean guitar. Recorded with a Canon Legria Camcorder, a Sony ECM mic and uploaded to RUclips via iMovie.

Fretboard Bites: Chromatic Scale with shifts
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.4 года назад
A great warm-up for cold hands. This simple chromatic scale will loosen up the fingers of the right and left hand and allow the ears to tune into the practice session. I place emphasis on legato and beauty of sound, focussing on maintaining a relaxed left hand thumb whilst shifting positions. www.fionaharrison.co.uk
Fretboard Bites: Damping/ Muting

Fretboard Bites: Damping/ Muting A short video on how to get a clean sound during your playing, through damping unwanted resonances. I teach many students that know how to do it, yet don't! and I teach many students that would like to damp extraneous ringing on of sounds, yet find it tricky. This basic exercise is an excellent warm-up for the ears and of course fast, nifty thumb work. Plenty of...

I really love how effortlessly she plays
Amazing. Bravo!
magnifique bravo from France
I really loved this piece. You are só great that you play it with closed eyes.
not bad!! )
Beautiful playing, very expressive!
Inspirational!!!! Wonderful tone too! I'm Spanish, and your playing made me proud of it, bravo!!! 👏👏👏
Another great tip, thanks! 🙏
Interesting advice, I'll try it. I'm the type that used to rub his forehead with the RH to moist the fingertips, but the vaseline trick makes sense to me. Also, it's likely that if the fingers glide more effortlessly through the nylon strings, this would make them last longer because friction is reduced. Thanks for the tip! 😊
beautiful interpretation, thnx very much.
Fiona, you have one of the best and more balanced tremolos I've ever heard. Your exercises sure have paid off, congratulations!
Just how I imagined it !!
So good music 🎶 ❤
Well done!! Always love Guitar 🎸 ❤️
Vaseline damages the wood.

Beautiful! Great sound!
Very helpful. Thanks
Super nice !!! Sounds great !! Well done, I like it !!!
Amazing
Thank you kindly!
I fell in love with the harmonious blacksmith 40 years ago. Such a pleasure to listen to these variations performed with style and accomplishment.
Thank you so much!
Bravo! The next to last chord, the Gm6 in fifth position. That is the only satisfying voicing...and you did it all fantastically!😊😊😊
That's really kind of you, thank you!
The best so far that i have heard. Bravo. Very romantic. Melody very clean, clear, expressive dan legato. Fresh interpretation. Bass and accompaniment chord are clear but not overwhelming. Difficult high notes above 12th frets are also clear and firm. tone and volume in those high notes remain stable. Difficult scales are well executed and clean. Calmly played in Good tempo. The best that i have heard. I will save it and listen to it often.
Wow, thank you! That's wonderful to hear!
still best is Norman Ruiz
¡¡¡Brillante y muy expresivo, bravo!!!
Excelent performance! So expressive! Perfect tempo and dinamics. I think this Is one of them best interpretation on the RUclips chanel! Congrats!
I'm having a low day - so this has really cheered me up! Thank you!
I've been doing this for 20 years! lol I swipe each string with it each time I change my strings, and then every few weeks I will use a scuff pad to clean the strings, and reapply vaseline. They sound better, they feel better, they last longer and they genuinely increase speed and general movement. Many, many years ago, I had a set of elixirs which were expensive, then I thought "why don't I just coat my strings myself", tried it and have never skipped a pair since. I also realized I can buy budget sets like Musician's Gear for just a few dollars a set, and after I coat them which makes the metal more pliable, it feels like a set that costs 20-$25. I've shared this tip with countless other players for the last 20 years.
Thank you sir for your advice. I am a beginner - intermediate player. And I am sure it will help me a lot. Thank you for your time. 🙏🙏 You can check my channel also and can tell me how can I improve my playing.
Lovely
diabolique main droite !
Ha Ha! Thank you! 😊
What mic do you use please
Hi! It was a Sony ECM MS907
Thank you very much! Love how you explain - gently and efficiently.
Thanks for watching!
Todos mis respetos a ud. Realizo una admirable intetpretacion sin duda una de las mejores que he escuchado admirable, felicidades, desde México
I'm really touched. Thank you. 🙏
can I use vaseline for removing friction from strings on nuts?
Hmm I'm not sure I really follow what you mean. I think you can use it on the cogs of the tuning pegs if they get really stiff and need a little attention.
Good to hear you play again. All the best, Julian.
I am learning this piece, and listen to various interpretations. The flow of your playing and David Russell's are the most coherent and understandable for this crazy beautiful piece. Thank you so much!
That's very kind of you. I like to approach it closer to that of a pianist - than some other guitar performers... Much appreciated.
Maravilloso
Standing ovation, fantastic.
Amazing Fiona! Xxx
Thank you Jules!
