DO NOT remove the thermostat, too much waterflow will cause your engine to overheat, because the coolant isn't going slow enough to soak in and transfer the heat to the radiator gut the thermostat out if you cant get one (if your on a trail/side of the road), you need flow resistance to slow down the coolant so it can move the heat properly.

I don't have any plans to sell my XJ, probably ever. 1999 XJ pretty clean, not perfect, but it runs perfect, and hauls my trailers, and has no downside for me. I love my Jeep. I have only. 4K into it, but have no idea of what it is worth, but I don't care. NOT selling.

When you have a knock sound on extreme turning - which I believe must be the upper ball joint 'popping' - so I replaced the top one only with new, but still 'popping' even though everything looks square, solid and tight. I don't fully understand how the top ball joint works, but I also replaced the tie rod. Inspected the axel also (left side) and I do have new U-joints. I have not replaced them yet, but they seem very solid, no play in anything. Very weird that I still get a popping that you can feel in your left foot when turning on hitting a big bump. Any suggestions on what the check next? I am pretty capable and. have all the right tools to change out anything.

My 98 f150 xlt 5.4 Triton to turbo charged 4bt start to finish was $6,738.44. For $5,000 got the 4bt, $1,738.44 in parts. Runs great has been for 70k miles. I have done a bunch of these.

An aluminum radiator will solve your overheating problems, put one in my 91 cherokee. I can drive up long drawnout hills and never reach 210 degrees.

You know you forgot one important ingredient. Cherokees came with a one row core. Change it to a three row making sure you keep an air spacing between the evaporator or any oil cooler in the front.

Wj and xj use different lower ball joints.

In a bit over a year Ive put 20k miles on my XJ and it only overheated once when the water pump failed. Replaced that and the stat, no problems since. IMO it only overheats when something needs fixing. Edit: stock I6 on mine, heater box valve still functioning.

my ZJ never overheats, even when I blew the radiator and the headgasket... overheating isn't one of my problems... headliner and a little rust is my problem now

I'm rebuilding my 2.5l YJ.. Installed a Golen Stroker Motor and went from an AX5 to ax-15 transmission and rebuilt my NP231J Added a new cold case Radiator (67-72) model with dual 14" Spal brushless fans in the back of my jeep..then realized I needed to add a booster pump oarrrr, add a Davis Craig EWP150 32 gallons per minute Removed the thermostat from the housing and installed a new high flow housing and removed the flow cool high flow water pump.. cut the fan blades so there's no blockage..all in all (started building my jeep in Mid January... Still building and learning..let you know how it turns out..

Great explanation. I am in the midst of the same swap on my TJ. I picked up an XJ HP axle as well. It will get a Artec axle truss and C braces. JKS makes a nice steering setup using the stock WJ tie rod ends.

The good, lower mileage XJs will continue to rise in price. Just bought my 3rd XJ. It’s a 2000 Sport with 50k original miles, bone stock. Arizona garaged car it’s whole life, not a spot of rust. Paid $11k for it and I think I stole it

Same side for intake and exhaust ports. I always thought that was a cool, yet flawed design. Heat soak is almost guaranteed

My neighbor is a former Kenosha engine plant employee, where the 4.0 L engines were built. I have a 2000 xj, and we started talking about the motor. He said that despite what the internet says, leave the motor with stock OEM parts. The AMC / Chrysler engineers knew what they were doing. Also, he said the 0331 head issues are bullshit. While they may be more prone to the notorious crack between #3 and #4 cylinders... All heads will crack if you overheat them and run them too hard. Keep up on maintaining the cooling system and that motor is bulletproof. He said the dumbest thing Chrysler ever did was kill 4.0 production in 2006.

I just posted my 2000 flame red southern xj near perfect all stock classic 129k miles for 12k and people are ripping me apart on fb saying I’m full of junk. But on the flip side I have talked to 30 people on it in only 4 days of being for sale. And 8 people are seriously interested so it is what it is

Did you replace just the lower ball joint with a wj lower and use a new xj upper or did you use a wj upper and lower when installing the wj knuckle?

I got lucky. I got one for $2500 early this year. The Old vet that sold it. He was going to loose his driver license do to his health decline. Saw him we talked engine sounded good. The bay is somewhat clean. I drove it for 10 minutes while he was going over how long he had it and places he took it. No issues mechanically but.... He was a heavy smoker and he dipped a lot. I will ripping out the carpet and replacing it with black floor mats.

2004 Ford explorer sport Trac 4wd front rotors are 5x4.5 and have the correct spacing to line right up. You just need to take about 1/8th off the diameter of the hub.

You need a new radiator. Get a trans cooler. Make sure the fan clutch is working. I bought a bigger radiator for my 98 zj and it stays cool in Texas weather.

I resurrected a’98 with 102K on it. I used a FlowKooler pump Hesco high output water outlet and a Robert Shaw thermostat. Running nice.

Got my completely stock 91 Cherokee limited for $4000 down in Arizona. It shows 121,000 miles on it but it was pulled by an RV before and they pulled the gear and sensor out of it that shows speed so it wasn’t gaining any miles.
