    Can you update the table to also show Embedded Steno, Full size keyboard (as opposed to one that is compressed & harder for regular or large hands to type faster than 200 gpm); also, having the power cord come straight out the back (interferes with a laptop computer) or sideways. I'm new, so I don't know a lot, and I don't know what else. But, in addition to the things in the table, I've been considering these things.

    How do you write so accurately? I'm a official steno reporter in the Criminal courts in NYC, but when I use my steno mod with plover, I have so many mistrokes with it. Any tips for building the dictionary? Are you so good because you're a certified real-time writer? Is it possible to use the steno board to use ctrl, alt, and tab functions?

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno Месяц назад

      I don't know if I actually do write accurately. I've never gotten any certifications, and I don't really know any professional stenographers (certainly not in real life). I taught myself steno when I was 15 and have always used it more of a way to control my computer instead of transcription. What kind of dictionary are you trying to build? Yes, it's possible to write keyboard shortcuts with Plover. This page goes over the systems I use for shortcuts: lapwing.aerick.ca/Chapter-25.html Plover can write anything you can type with a keyboard, except holding down keys.

      @@AerickSteno I want to type "uya" but I can't because that word isn't in the dictionary. I think making a keyboard based on the phonetics of Vietnamese would be better :3

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno Месяц назад

      @@procyon31 It's a lot easier to make a dictionary based on spelling since it's very regular, and it allows you to disambiguate between homophones. That's the approach I went with in the viet.json dictionary. However, the issue with the dictionary is that it's autogenerated based on a list of Vietnamese words. I wrote a few scripts to go through a list of Vietnamese words I got off the internet, and generate steno outlines for each word. Evidently, that list missed "uya", which is why you're not able to write it. I would still run into the same issue if the dictionary was based on phonetics. It would be better if the dictionary was a procedural one where Plover creates the outlines on the fly (like a python dictionary). This would allow you to write any arbitrary combination of Vietnamese sounds, even the resulting "word" is nonsense. However, I don't know if I have the time or skills to do that. For now, what you can do is add "uya" or any other missing word you come across to your dictionary based on the rules that you learn. This is also how English steno is done. Oftentimes, we come across words or phrases that are missing from our dictionaries, and we just add them. It's part of the learning process (no dictionary is ever considered complete).
