I bought a '98 also in that same color in October (I also live in Missouri), 55K miles on it. I wanted an automatic, don't really enjoy shifting gears. Didn't know at the time there was such a stigma against automatics, but I don't care. I'm not a good wrench turner, but just subscribed to follow your journey and maybe pick up some tips from you and the comments section. Lotta experts out there😋

Heating up the knuckle helps with stuck rod ends , ball joints and bolt/nuts. Use a propane torch head but also use the YELLOW bottle of gas in the welding section at your local hardware store. Just keep flame away from the rubber boot on tie rod ends and ball joints. Heat works wonders.

I changed my harmonic balancer cost $800 but worth it

Hammer works every time, leave the nut on to prevent damage to the threads. Framing hammer or small sledgehammer. 👌🏻

Wow, you don't own a set of proper tools and knowledge on how to work on cars and you want to do a manual transmission swap. Haha, lol. STOP, stop stop. Just drive the car and put wax on it like 95% of Corvette owners do.

Grind the tie rod end separator to make it fit. The GM tool is an obscene $,$$$

There is a tool that locks the transmission so the motor doesn’t turn.

It looks like my C5. But my C5 is an 03.

It's not 00-04 (I wish it was as I own a 2000). The significant fixes and performance upgrades all happened in the 01-04 cars. Most notable is the ls6 intake and the improved ECBM module. That's why you can find good deals on the 97-00 Corvettes but not so much on 01-04's. I would NOT do an A4 to M6 swap. It's far too costly and labor intensive to be worth while. You are far better off doing one of two things. 1). Put a good 3500-4000 stall torque converter in your car and enjoy the fun a stalled auto offers. 2). Sell the automatic car and buy one with a manual.

I have a 2000 triple black 6 spd convertible. Love it. Make sure you look at harmonic balancer

Here's a tip, start with long tube headers, exhaust, a good CAI and a more aggressive torque converter and finally quality tune. I think you'll be very satisfied with the results.

I own a '08, Z51 C6, but, I still find C5's very attractive. I'll probably pick one up this year.

Tap the actual knuckle with a brass hammer as you pull down on the tie rod. I did this on my other vette pulled the rack out from the driverside. The front crossmember I loosened the bolts to about 3 turns from falling out and shoved wrenches between frame and it and shimmed it as much as I could to gain clearence. One thing to note buy the tools off amazon for install. Needed starter hold down and threaded rod to install balancer do not use the bolt to install the balancer you can strip the crank. You'll also need a puller pretty sure I used a 3 jaw.

Thanks for the video and best of luck on the harmonic balancer. I was a first time viewer today. I own a ‘99 convertible with 45k on it. Your sway bar links looked original and I would recommend you replace them with the new GM version that is all metal. I just replaced all 4 of mine 3 weeks ago. You will need a special 16/18mm flat sway bar wrench which are easy to find on places like eBay. The plastic away bar links are junk from when the C5 was first manufactured. Look on Amazon for “GM 20822934” which is the part number. It will make a world of difference in your ride and turning quality.

C5's are awesome. Best bang for the buck. They have some quirks. One of them is that they are very sensitive to low voltage. Very important to keep your battery fully charged, if it's a car that sits alot. You might get the dreaded steering column lock failure, and or the pull key wait 10 sec failure in the driver information on the dash.

Prepare for the quirks of the 97-00 c5 lol. Sharp lookin Vette brother
