Francis Chan on Marriage and Family
These are excerpts of a presentation by Francis and Lisa Chan on marriage and family called "Two People with One Mission". It was given on October 25, 2011 at Cornerstone Church of Simi Valley, California. Chan challenges the notion that we need to focus on the family. If one give in to sinners betrayed God
One of my biggest fear is people. Not that I'm not anti-social but their judgment or criticism or the way in which they view/see me. That brings a snare it says in the Bible. And believe me!! It is not only torment, it is a sin. We are to fear NO man, ONLY God himself (and that is in a reverential way or manner). I didn't realize this until I had to face adult bullies, agitators, antagonists....then I realized it.
Well if we love God and obey his Word we have to keep true Godly order in the house. God,Christ,husband,wife,children. In that order.
What does that mean in reality though? That you would neglect your kids for your spouse? What about the fact that that is illegal and legally child abuse? What kind of spouse would want you to neglect your kid in favor of them?
If it's not neglect against your child then in what way is your spouse really coming first? The Bible never actually says your spouse comes first people just interpret it that way. Malachi 2:15 actually says you are one because God wants Godly offspring from you. Why can't spouse and children be equally important? It just seems scary that if it came down to a meeting a true need (not wants) that a parent would want their spouse to take care of theirs instead of their kids. That's not what a true parent does.
Wow, this so powerful ! Amen ! God is worth more than life itself. Lord, please help us to never act cowardly but to always keep our eyes on You oh Lord you are incredible and I will die to myself to follow You, always.
Francis Change is so very right on this. I put my family before God and almost lost my family so many times. Now I put God first then family and we are so very blessed in our marriage, parenting, finances, etc. I'm the head of the family only as I submit to God as my head. Less stress and sooooooooooo much more joy in life even thru the tough stuff. Please submit and be faithful to the Creator and He will be faithful to you.

@@froggie219 They wouldn't know Jesus' words from the ingredients on the back of a bag of chips. They interpret any kind of necessary (commanded) works as 'earning' your salvation. When was the last time having water poured over you 'earns' anything, let alone eternal life? When was the last time doing your duty, such as forgiving others, 'earning' salvation? "We have done only what it was our duty to do."
When you wake up tomorrow morning you are one day closer. Everyone lives forever, question is where will you spend eternity? With God, or without God. It is your choice, choose wisely, and carefully. Most important decision you will ever make.
Isn't this the same guy that said he was happy to see his face on the cover of a magazine?? And who openly confessed that there was hypocrisy in the early years of his ministry?? Wow you had everybody fooled!

Amen! I think the best and really the only place for a couple to start if they want to serve God is to seek Gods will in everything. What does He want out of our lives as a couple? What is His will for us? Ask Him those questions. Wait for His answer and guidance. Then do whatever He leads to do. Its that simple. Not easy, but simple. That is what the christian life is. A lot of times we conduct our lives and marriages according to our own rules and our own wills but that is not following Christ. Following Christ is saying "Lord, what do you want? Okay thats what I want too." Whatever it is.

You have to also be careful you don't start thinking that your own "works" will get you into heaven. If you are putting your hope about wether you'll "get in" or not into how "well" YOU followed Christ you should read the rest of the new testament where Jesus' chosen apostles help us put together the theology of our faith where the inspired word of God tells us "You are saved by grace through faith, not by works lest anyone should boast." If you want to boast before almighty, all-knowing, holy and loving and gracious and merciful God one day that you said his name a few times to others expecting him to be impressed, you might want to remember that Jesus said there will be a lot of people saying "we prophesied in YOUR NAME, and cast out demons in YOUR NAME and did many things in YOUR NAME" to whom HE will respond saying: "Depart from me, you workers of iniquity. I never knew you." Thus, in this statement I believe Jesus was trying to show people that if you put your hope in your own ability to follow Jesus rather than in HIS ability to save you, you might not even possess saving faith. If anyone thinks they are going to get INTO heaven because of their own works, TRULY consider the implications of what your own works are... Sure, maybe you told some co-workers about Jesus and went out on a mission trip and told people about Jesus. Good job...+ 2 for you. You have been sinning all of your life and for every one time you tell someone about Jesus I can almost guarantee that most of you will have had a lustful thought 10 times as much as you have told people about Christ. The point is, don't trust in your efforts to be righteous. Read the ENTIRE new testament and realize that the only way you become right with God is by placing your faith in what Jesus did for you....THEN follow Him because it's what you were born to do, not because you are paying for your salvation.
Well in that case I'm going skydiving then...I might as well conquer fear and have fun too lol cuz I ain't gone be no coward I wants in to heaven yeeeeeehhhaaaawww!!!

Were it but true that this was your last sermon. How better off the world would be. A truer fraud I have not seen. Or heard. You? Afraid? That's a laugh. And a Lie. You say these seemingly vulnerable things to appear vulnerable and human to your unwitting flock. But you are a hard core fascist. As in, everyone who doesn't "confess Jesus" spends an eternity away from god. That's your thing and what excites you most. Spreading fear and making threats. And disingenuously so - as what you really wanted to say but had to hide your sadistically vile nature to again, appear human, is that these people are not just "separated from god" as you put it so dishonestly - no, they will be sucking down flames on the "lake of fire" for eternity. That's what you truly wanted to say. If anyone needs to practice dying, waking up and realizing that nothing he believed in nor professed had a shred of truth or reality to it, that person would be you. Jesus is myth, bunky. Do the research. Do the math. Not that it matters to you, for leading an adoring flock of blind sheep who heap praise on you is what you are all about. Ego. That's what Christianity is really all about. And you are its poster boy.
Oh man! You could not be more wrong. Ask God to reveal Himself to you! Put away your pride! I know its hard... its the hardest thing to do, but its the only thing that matters. Imagine this:... what IF... what if there is a God and you are wrong? and i don't know how someone can say there is no God. Have you met true christians who are living witnesses of Him? I myself lived most of my life thinking the same thing as you. And oh man was i wrong. Just as wrong as you are. Please seek God!

This is why God prolong His Judgement bc He wants as many as will come. He has supplied the sacrifice. But we hv to choose if we want it or not.

Did he tell the church why he is leaving ,why does Cornerstone still exist ,why didnt Francis split the church into small groups of 50 -100 people and the greater church could come together every month or 2 ?

Lot was a coward and according to the bible he was one of the Lord's people. I know Christ can make us brave but remember, we fail and act like cowards all the time in ways many don't realize. Abraham and Isaac both acted like cowards and said to their wives, "pretend your my sister so the men in the city won't kill me." Not being a coward isn't what saves us, believing on Christ as savior does.
Andy Price We have the Holy Spirit now (New Testament/New Covenant) to make us bold, strong & fearless in Christ. Surrender is key to not quench & grieve the Holy Spirit. Yes no cowards in heaven, take a look at the armour we are to put on, there is nothing for our backs, only cowards turn and run. I believe when we go forward it is the Holy Spirit in us who is backing us, may there be more of Him and less of us as we go into all the places preaching the Kingdom of God to a lost and dying world.

Telling your kids that family comes first is a terrible model for your kids - Christian Parenting advice 2011
And what about those who have sick or disabled kids, and they can't go feed the poor every day. (Like my husband and I) Are they not bringing the Kingdom forth by serving and sacrificing for their children? I think there are a lot of different ways to serve The Lord and focus on the Kingdom.
You make a very valid, worthy point. Nobody cares or understands what you're life involves more than God. He knows, understands, cares, and loves, without end. But when I read your comment, I couldn't help but care about your family too. My very limited experience and knowledge would indicate that God is very pleased about every sacrifice, act of love, and way of serving you give to your husband and children, because you are being obedient and faithful when you do. I think, in light of Jesus' words, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you." In light of this, just continue to pray, "How can I, in my world, seek first the kingdom? What can I do to show the way? Who can I come in contact with that I can share my faith with?" And don't worry about what some may consider "limitations". You "limitations" not only lead you to show an extra amount of love to your family, but may lead you to meet someone who needs to know the real Jesus too. But I would hope you wouldn't take the message in an extreme directions one way or another, so as to lose the intent. If you mislead yourself into one extreme, you could make the mistake of giving less love to your family. My understanding is that we are unchained and unlimited in the amount of love we can pour into our spouses and children. If you take it to the other extreme, you may let yourself be misled into believing that you have no ability nor calling to be an ambassador for Christ outside the walls of your home. And you, and any other follower of Jesus is equipped to be an ambassador to their neighbor, however many chances one person may get to do so, or however few chances another gets to do so. The heart of the message is--like Francis said, "There's a King up there!", and we get to be a part of helping other people receive the love He so wants to give them, and that's really a lot of what seeking first the kingdom is really all about. And along the path of that journey, I believe Francis Chan is also hoping to communicate that your love and service to your family actually deepens, rather than suffers. The secular humanist world will tell you that's not possible. Don't buy into that. It's kind of like one of the many paradoxes of the Bible--the first will be last, the last will be first, the humble will be exalted, he who exalts himself will be humbled--Bible promises often completely reverse humanities logic. Honestly, when I'm giving my first to God, my wife and children get my best; but when I seek me first, or my wife, or my son's future, or money, I find myself actually letting down the very people that I've begun to prioritize ahead of God. That's the paradox part of it. It's not worldly logic. Just that you took the time to watch and comment shows that you care and want to give your best in the best way possible. I haven't been doing that for several months now in my own life, and I see the results, that my wife and my children are not receiving from me what they should be--because I have NOT been seeking first the kingdom. In any case, as Gideon was told to do, "Go in the strength your have." He wasn't told to measure up to anybody else, just "go" with what YOU have. Do what YOU can do. If you had a major disability, you would, for example, not likely "accomplish" some of the things that some people do when they seek first the kingdom, but you would still desire to and follow up on the plea to "Go in the strength you have." Jesus' blood covers whatever shortcoming you or I might think we have in the call to seek first his kingdom and is righteousness.
They are and in your case, that would be your version of serving the Lord. I think he means aside from that.
I think each of us needs to just seek God on what He would have us do for His kingdom. He knows each of our circumstances and will not call us to serve in a way that is without compassion for those in our care. However we must seek Him to know what way He wants us to serve. I think a lot of us just jump into a ministry or do something and think we are serving God but we cant serve God without first asking Him what way He wants us to serve
I absolutely love Francis Chan, but isn't loving your husband well and discipling your children a way to serve The Lord? Those are gifts from The Lord that we're called to steward.

We believe that God invented family,wives,kids. If I serve Hm first, then He shows us how to serve them. When our focus is on Jesus, then our focus is on others before ourselves.
@mariachi153 James 2:14 . It sounds to me like you're afraid of leaving your life of lukewarm. You need to realize that Jesus loves you so much he gave his all for you, and if you really love Him, then you would give your all for Him. Don't worry, you are not the only one struggling with this. What we need to do is look at the big picture. Eternity. Is God worth your life?
GOD says "There will be no cowards in Heaven!"
It is anything but selfish ambition. It is a surrender to the ways of God, the ways of sacrifice, the ways of giving knowing that God is your supply and help in time of need. When others are hoarding for themselves, we are giving and pouring out our lives for others. That is what it means to follow Christ, to place your trust in Him. As my wife and I serve God more, we find that our relationship grows stronger. We have been through many trials, but we have a unity that few will ever know.

It wasn't Him that changed your view but God. Francis is a true man of God, God was working through him because Francis continually read the Word of God and thereby kept Jesus in his heart. Therefore he also spoke the truth, the Word, which he read, which is what you heard and what increased your faith. "Faith comes by hearing the word of God."(Romans 10:17) You too can be close to God like that, even closer if you want. Just read the Bible. If you want you can message me. God bless you! <3

Is not solely about all these ritual things. Of course we must repent and all those. But let us not treat it as a chore, as an activity, as the sole purpose of Christianity. I believe God has so much more intended and not limited by all these things. Let's not limit God.
