Rivalry untold. Margaux had access to pursue to a spiritual journey and Mariel didn't. I cannot understand how she fell short of finding her true self. I don't want to assume anything, because I wasn't even born when these women were officially at odds quietly. But it's damn sure pretty clear that Margaux was being contacted by energies she either didn't understand or was afraid of in private. She was still brave for admitting her addiction on television during the 90's.

That look on her face at the 49 second marks says it all. That is the look of somebody who has swallowed a disgusting pill hundreds of times instead of telling the Truth. She is literally remembering the abuse right then as he is speaking, heartbroken that the Truth is still not being spoken, heartbroken at her lack of courage in that moment. Telling her she's had opportunities average people haven't is like rubbing salt in a terrible wound. What are opportunities when you are broken inside, and the man who did it is right in front of you craftily dodging accountability.

Watched this a couple of nights ago. First off the fact Mariel compares the Hemingways to the Kennedys, is bizarre. The only ones who have done anything publicly, are Ernest, Margaux & Mariel. Ernest was uniquely talented in every way, Mariel is an okay actress, and Margaux was one of the most beautiful models, ever. Every single generation of Kennedys have produced proven success, and catastrophic results. I completely admire Mariel for taking a hard, cold look at her family but the documentary is disconnected in several ways. She calls her dead sister Margaux, stupid yet, doesn't correct herself & then has a complete meltdown with her boyfriend when their cars break down on a remote dirt road. If cussing out your boyfriend while stranded is introspective then Mariel has nailed it. Sorry, not sorry. Just really wasn't that impressed.

I come from an average middle class family, no one known or did anything notable. I was born in early 50's and I don't know of any friends or anyone for that matter I've gotten to know in my life who didn't come from a dysfunctional family with some or all forms of abuse, including my own; it's quite common unfortunately. So if you think your family was jinxed or unusual that there was alcoholism, verbal, physical, sexual abuse, suicide, etc. because your previous relatives or your grandfather was a known, famous writer, then you're wrong. I grew up petrified living in the same house with my bipolar dad and sister, mom looked away, ignored it all, wouldn't protect me. She became severely depressed, closed off, a shell of her younger self, it caused her many health issues she died from. My dad died 18 years after her, and I'm still scared of him. Finally blocked my sister out of my life 25 yrs ago such a relief, with the help of a therapist, but with the dam internet tracking everyone, she found me, and I'm NOT on any social media, no accounts ever. I don't bank or pay any utilities online, seems you move, new address is automatically on the internet somehow, we're all tracked. I didn't even give Post Office a forwarding address. Don't use a cell either, landline only and number I was told would be private. NOTHING is private anymore due to the internet. I HATE the internet (weeks go by at times without getting on it), if it were shut down tomorrow I'd celebrate,. So now I'm filled with anxiety, anger and depression again, after good, happy years of only living in the present and future, now she's brought the past back. Life is difficult, too many of us had/have crazy, hurtful, abusive family members in our childhoods that marked us for life, even though we chose to move on, it still comes back, no choice of ours. Mental illness and family abuse what goes on behind "closed doors", sadly, will never ever be able to be controlled, there are too many of them, the news media in all forms, shows us that everyday.

I'd get nervous too if I couldn't see. First thought that crossed my mind seeing the first seconds of this. Who the heck rock climbs with their hair hanging over their eyes? That's stupid and dangerous, tie it back off your face! Rock climbing, one of the dumbest, sport/hobbies there is, accidents waiting to happen, death wishes. And many do die doing it. Just watched a narrated documentary on her grandfather Ernest's life on PBS with real photos and video footage, during his time in Cuba, Spain, getting a divorce from Pauline,, marrying Martha Gellhorn, etc. it was quite well done. Glad Mariel has made herself a good, adult life, with no one controlling her, choices she's made, THAT'S healthy, mental health. Can't change the past or what relatives had choosen to do with their lives, time is short, just have to move on and not dwell on things that cannot be changed, focus on only your present and future.

I think that it's always better to continue living, I've suffered a mental illness for many years, and was suicidal for years at the beginning of it, and I still think that it's always better to continue living. You can reach new levels of conscience, new experiences, the little things of life that are good, and simply the duty to live and go through tribulation, grow, etc. I'm a believer in God, of course, and I believe in heaven, hell, etc., that's another reason why I always kept going, although I almost had a suicide attempt. I'm glad I'm still alive and I pray to God that I always continue and never attempt suicide. 0:07

‘ how do you feel about your daughters being so well known?’ ……her facial expressions that follow aren’t due to depression or the fact she’s clearly out of it on something, it’s a direct result of what he said when he answered. The “Hemingway Curse” is deeply rooted in child sex abuse. It doesn’t help that biography whitewashes truth in order to preserve the myth. Betrayal by a parent is soul crushing. Hemingway was always chasing his childhood because he was stuck in it-frozen in a place where innocence was violently lost and knowledge was terribly found. We are not dealing with random effect, child sex abuse is intergenerational, systemic, and highly institutionalized. Note: The scene is difficult to watch. The father is drunk and the daughter is awash in drugs. There is unspoken sadness in their eyes. It has nothing to do with the legacy and price of fame.

@@TomCatJerryMouse I think they mean the lifestyle and drugs. Margaux was in recovery for a while but I think she may have gone back to drinking & using but I could be wrong. She was so beautiful inside & out.

The power he clearly has to decimate and destroy her so simply is so clear and it makes me feel so sorry for her. She's trying to build herself up but she'll always be rubble again 😢😥
