Mothers Day is fast approaching! #welding

I made some soft jaws out of 1/4" copper buss bar. Doesn't mark anything, not even aluminum. Really good ground path too. Questions: 1. Are you welding everything single pass, or double, or yes? 2. I can see your rotary manifolds don't require a complicated merge or collector, but in your opinion is it necessary to weld the inside of a merge? TIA
Nice solution with the copper buss bar! Yes, everything use welded in 2 passes on sch40. I'll usually do it on sch20 too, it's just a peace of mind thing. Even with perfect fit up, I think a nice fusion pass on the inside of the collector is a good idea. I see many high-level guys not doing that though, so I'm not really sure what's more "correct."
Why not Anodize them in nice colors or a stealthy black?
Stainless steel can't be anodized, but I did offer a black or silver ceramic coating option which has been proven to be quite durable.
no gloves...wow....
Shocking
How do you advertise or find people to sell to?
I made a follow up video that covers that - ruclips.net/video/4BlPtFBMYeU/видео.html
probably make $1100 a day if you don't waste money on all those fancy fixtures.
These tools are all a part of a quality end product. Buy once, cry once!
I thought that was a giant manifold propped up against the snapon box at first
Sure wish I could 3D print one that big to have on display!
I don’t understand this video! You are showing off how to fix a lighter without sharing helpful info that others could use to do the same. It a little bad taste..most of these are just puzzles that just need to be cleaned. The reason this video sucks is the ONLY THING that is hard about fixing this particular lighter is knowing how to disassemble properly with hurting it. You have that info but CHOOSE TO KEEP IT A SECRET..wth.?! ( I don’t need RUclips, just saying..)
Did you see the part where I took the entire lighter apart and put it back together on camera?
How do you make jigs for many different cars, or do you only make for 1 car? great work and I esspecially love the packaging, that's real pride in your work!
Usually just 1 jig per car, but if there's more ways than one to mount the turbo (example: high mount VS. Low mount turbo), then each one of those will be a separate jig. Here's a bit more information - ruclips.net/video/4BlPtFBMYeU/видео.html
Pro tip: don't try to sell parts you make on Facebook. Price police will beat you to death if you're not giving stuff away for free
Oh it’s a fisher..man I would not waste my time on that one but I do applaud you. I do like that Maruman tho.
I agree, it's usually bad news with Fisher but this thing works great!
Nice! I love the interest in these old lighters.
Mr. Glease. I've bin in the fab industry for 40 years. I'd like to set up and do some projects like that, I have all the equipment. Who do I contact to get involved. Mark
I made a follow up video that may be useful to answering this question - ruclips.net/video/4BlPtFBMYeU/видео.html
amazing and beautiful work . well done
Thanks a lot!
What brand is that green bench vise you have?
It's a "General." I don't really recommend them as-is. It's been working for me because I converted the lead screw that moves the jaw over to a thrust style, which solved how sloppy it was when I got it.
I don't watch RUclips videos ever, BUT I watched this whole video! You are a tremendous human being, my friend!
That's huge, thanks a lot!!
i dont get why he didnt make a Jig for every piece of the puzzle once he figured it out the first time... i bet he could weld 10k a day if he did not have to fiddle around so much every single time he makes one.
You're 100% correct! I burned myself out before I took the time to make the job easy and efficient.
I built a completely custom CNC welding machine which gives you perfect weld for specific part/job that needs to be repeated thousands of times and is in a hard to access and hard to do manually even by a skilled welder, you just load two parts, clamp it, close the door, and hit the start button, it's fully enclosed so you don't even need any protective gear, and it doesn't require anyone skilled to operate it, and it takes only a minute per part. And my salaried job pays me $40k a year...
I love it man, very inspiring. You are the real deal.
Thanks!!
This video has given more advice about what I should do with my career than anybody else has. I'm a senior in high school and I currently go to a votech for engineering. I have always loved to build things which is what led me to wanting to be come an engineer but I can't see myself making it into a career because I want a more hands on job and really don't want to go to college because I have ADHD and really struggle to focus on the boring core classes associated with engineering. I recently bought a cheap tig welder off amazon because I wanted to do some exhaust work on my car. I already had a little experience mig welding but it was really tricky at first. I just finished fixing my friends exhaust than had some issues as well as doing some custom work to it. Its a 350z which notoriously sound like a raspy trumpet but I was able to make an exhaust that was still loud but has a smooth and clean tone. The whole project was frustrating but at the end I was so happy with how it turned out that i forgot how hard it was to build just like you mentioned. Whenever fabrication is going smoothly it feels so effortless and I feel very calm and relaxed and its very peaceful. I really want to make it a career but didn't know where to start. After watching this i have a much better understanding of how to proceed and I just want to thank you for making this video as it is probably gonna change my future. If anyone who is reading this thinks they need to spend a lot of money to start out with, I spent 700 on a basic setup and it has been working well. I did however purchase a small bandsaw recently for cutting exhaust tubing for 300 and it has saved so much time, I definitely recommend.
IS IT A CONSISTENT EVERY DAY THING?
Just got inspired at 1:50 am. I have everything to get started. Thank you.
Go for it!!
Isn't the part where the two pipes meet still constricting flow?
I detest when manufacturers make it so the bolts going to exhaust flanges get stuck in place and so on. Drives me insane. Good on you for attention to small details.
“Simply made a manifold dimensionally correct in a car.” Hmmm...first you figure out what car owners would hopefully turbocharge their car except for the fact there’s not already a cheap Chinese piece. Then you buy that car. Then you craft a manifold in the car with which you can then make a fixture...😏
Here's a follow up video that helps explain a bit further - ruclips.net/video/4BlPtFBMYeU/видео.html
1k a day, possible but, and its a big but, firstly you need a customer and the appropriate jig, then a decent tig welder (plus experience/knowledge) and all of the other fab workshop tools. Its HARD work, yes creative and enjoyable but skilled and specialised. TBH I think you would be better if you also included the installation as a one stop shop but thats another discussion.
All you need is tens of thousands worth of equipment and a decade or 2s experience
You won't get very far with that attitude
I really really need a lifeline, I am an obsessive thinker, similarly to the way you do.. I am a film maker who has a brilliant idea for a TV show can you send me a private message with contact details
I was thinking today about how to easily make a jig for repeatable fabrication in a diy setup, thank you so much, seeing the simplicity while being so effective. For something big and on a lot of planes like v8 headers would I jig each individual runner? I have headers for a few different swaps, would i have to ruin them to make a jig?
I feel like after covid the aftermarket scene has declined some but im probably wrong
Its all stianless, why use 309?
Dude said welbows wtf, no one calls them that.
The fact that you cut those pies out with the grinder instead of the bandsaw says enough.
why you weld without protective glovers ?
I like your clean neat setup, your tig looks high end. I would like to see a review of some of the tools u use and why / how u chose those brands. Nice work bro !
Me watching this crafting and welding video when I can't even use tools well 😂 crafting really takes skills.
Always looking for something actually worth while on RUclips to watch and learn something new I’m young and I see the value of what you have to offer people talking about this being out of reach for them really just don’t want to do it in the first place
Risky business when the guard goes missing off the grinder.
Nice work! it is very noticeable that you love what you do!
I straight up thought you made a FB post saying you stopped making manifolds... The video answered the question. Good thing I waited.
It looks awesome dude 👍
Great wrok, looks awesome and great quality. How many of these specific manifolds have you done? Do you have a lot of these type of jigs for a variety of manifolds? I would love to set put on my own to do this, just don't know how to find the work. Great video
Just finished video saw 140 of the rx7 thanks!
That mother-in-law joke is the first successful attempt of making me subscribe before seeing anything lol
You will work less harder if you'll stop buying Snap-On toolboxes.
I say that we have a $200 minimum and they always leave. Doing work for other companies is so much less headache
Should add a small pocket in the box for the screwdriver bit, so that it can't fall off during shipping
Get and end mill with the same size diameter of the tube and cope that stuff on the milling machine.
I've been building pretty ghetto but sturdy exhaust systems for my engine swaps i always wanted to get better and tig and make beautiful stainless steel tig welded systems always has felt like a far reach dream
Why do you use 309 instead of 308 or 316 rod? When i first started welding i used a 309 out in the field and after a day of rain the weld rusted and my boss called me into the office to basically ask me why i was so stupid. He explained 309 was for welding stainless to carbon steel and told me not to do it again. I also learned later on that some schools use it to train students to weld stainless steel while using carbon pipe for practice to reduce costs. Years later we had an issue with the welders in a shop i was the lead fabricator in and the young guys insisted 309 was good for stainless and sure enough we got rust spots even after an acid wash. My boss and I ended up having to lock up the 309 rods in the tool room because they kept using it without permission. Now I'm wondering if there's actually a really good reason to use 309 on stainless and I just missed a method to keep it from rusting. It would especially throw me off if there's a good reason to use it on sanitary tubing.
Every video you make expands my thinking. Most profitable channel I've ever seen as a welder. I'm getting close to making a video welding the straight pipe and racking for my welding rig car and I was inspired to do it by the saying "start where you stand".
Come to think of it alot of my thinking was limited by perfectionism. I could never afford to do it the "right" way. Now I'm building a work bench from cribbing I got for free, planing the 4x4's by hand and setting a metal plate on top of it for welding. I held out thinking I'd build the perfect fab table for years, but all I really needed is to actually start.
and you had a chance to double download the poop rocket video. a piece of film right up there with Gone with The Wind and Apocalypse Now.
