So glad to have sold all my rental properties and bought gold, silver and property in E Europe. Dealing with councils and shit tenants was an expensive nightmare, now free and sadly watching the UK implode from a safe distance.

I'm in a leasehold (99 years from 1973 I think) block of 12 units, including 4 shops. We've been paying about £1900 service charge every six months on flats worth £35K because the lease is too short to get a mortgage. It's gone up to £19K to extend the lease. £500 a year to service non-existent emergency lighting, insurance that is likely chosen for the highest kickback to the managing agent / freeholder rather than best value for the leaseholder. £100K blown on doing up balconies and replacing railings with well under-par workmanship. Leasehold needs to be abolished for existing flats.
