1 Month, Less Screen Time | 9 to 6 hours a day

In December, self neglect was beginning to happen after being on my phone for 12 hours a day at the peak of summer, getting down to 9 hours a day from September to December and realising I still was in need of a major shift. Here's hoping in 2025, I get my screen time down to 4 hours a day!

Extreme Decluttering | And the 6 month rule!

Hi, my name is Nicole, and welcome to my channel. I am hopeful that this will be our last decluttering pile for the next 6 months as we will be starting a No Buy for 6 months. The only change we can think that might come up is abclothing declutter for my toddler in the summer, and the toys in our 6 months/time will tell bin!
After Christmas/Bday Declutter of an Extreme Minimalist Family ♡

With my toddlers' birthday being in late December, we usually have a huge influx of presents and cards! This year, together, we received 100 different presents (not including all the little parts that come with them), ranging from soap to books, dvds and toys, and so as a result we accumulated a lot of stuff in December! And even though I did a pre-christmas declutter, I knew straight away that...
My *36* item wardrobe

I have 36 items of clothing, shoes and accessories total and 18 items of underwear for 4 seasons here in the UK, from -15dg to 30. This isn't a capsule wardrobe. Nothing is stored away at any point of the year and the majority of it is used in multiple ways. With plans to do an entire wardrobe review in 6 months' time. This is the time frame suggested for when new contraception has adjusted and...
An Extreme Minimalist's - Pre-Christmas Declutter ♡

With my toddlers' birthday a few days before Christmas, it's crucial I spend some time decluttering old toys, worn clothes, and broken and destoryed things as well some of my own. I usually try to 'give up' as much of my space as possible to accommodate my toddlers, toys, books, dvds, crafts and play as we need that living in a small space.
I deleted *everything* for digital minimalism
Просмотров 341Месяц назад
As the title suggests, I am in the process of deleting my digital life, from gaming, shopping, pornography and photos to dating websites, social media, and music accounts. And not necessarily replacing them all with off-screen alternatives to use or to store in the physical world either.
An extreme minimalist goes low tech

I currently own a Samsung phone, which I dumbed down. Then, as an extreme minimalist, I deleted a lot of apps. Which lead to me wondering if I need to replace them with physical alternatives and how am I going to do it whilst still practising an extreme minimalist lifestyle as a parent? To be honest, if I didn't have a toddler, I wouldn't own DVDs and physical books at all but to be a good pare...

Extreme minimalist advice for kids' art/cards
Просмотров 1743 месяца назад
In this video, I talk about managing kids' art, birthday and Christmas cards, and crafts that my children give and receive to each other and to me and what we decide to do about them. As a general rule, if it's not meaningful, it's trashed, but denfining meaningful can be different for different people at different stages of life, and this is what I will explore.
I own no digital photos | prefer physical photos?

In this video, I speak about the many ways that I would try to be an extreme minimalist when it comes to digital and physical photographs. In the beginning, I was unable to tell the difference between an important photo and a random screenshot. As time went on and my opinion of digital and physical photos changed, so did the opinion of what I wanted to use and keep as a single person changed wh...

Side note: I found my sun hat! Decluttered 2 pairs of socks, a pair of pjs and 2 leggings. Brought in 1 pair of winter leggings and considering another top. And I own a necklace made of clear and green crystals from my now passed grandma.
I want to do better with a minimalist wardrobe. It is pretty minimal but I want to do some experiments to see how I can pair down what I have - so I can give what I don't actually wear to others who need it more than me! Great video.
@SharieDeBord I realised today that I needed a third pair of winter leggings so I brought some. However, I did not need the b&w leggings. And I'm not in need of the third pair of gym shorts, so I parted with them. 2 out, 1 in. :)
@@extrememinimalistparent Love the in and out rule! It really helps keep clutter to a minimum!
Great work mum 👍👍👍 Your toddler seems very happy, he’s very lucky that you are spending quality time with him.
Oh he is verry happy 😊
@ yes, mum and his favourite auntie spending time with him 🙂
We dont own a lot of books but we love the library.
@@TheGrincMomandHerGrinchlings I love the library for adult books! But all 3 of our local libraries are not so good for the books my toddler adores, although they are fab warm, playful places!
Wow a long video!!! Can’t wait, about to watch while I walk on the treadmill.
@@damianloder6080 it's a long, ranty one XD
@@extrememinimalistparent great, more exercise for me haha. I just finished watching, congratulations on your progress. If you’re looking for a book I recommend Anne of Green Gables. I read the whole series years ago Really good books and the main character Anne has red hair too so i think you’ll like it even more so. I like to get books from the library so you can return it when you’re finished and if you want a book and they don’t have it, they will order it in for you.
@damianloder6080 I watched the TV show. Its amazing! One of my favourites.
Thomas the train...such cherished memories. My oldest and only son(18) loved Thomas when he was little. It was all about Thomas and Lightning McQueen. ❤

Thomas the train...such cherished memories. My oldest and only son(18) loved Thomas when he was little. It was all about Thomas and Lightning McQueen. ❤
Hi there again. I think how you showed the book shelf was good as the viewer can see it all in the one go, whereas if you had of just had everything in a pile and then held it up we don’t get a good visual representation. Kind of like when you did your wardrobe/clothing video it would have been better if you done it like this so we can see the wardrobe not just the items. I think this would work well for all of your videos, like you could do a fridge tour, kitchen cupboards, pantry etc. Just an idea, but anyway can you please hurry up and make another video, I miss you 😊
@damianloder6080 I think so too It's just more complex in the wardrobe as it's a mix of my own and my toddlers. X
Update: We decluttered all the tiny and plastic duplicates of TTTE toys and threw away the yellow ball as it was flat-ish. As well as a few wooden one sided trains. 😅
Hi Nicole, im new to your channel and i find your bedroom beautiful. No distractions and fully functional. ❤ Erica
Love the videos and the fact that you don’t have a problem with making longer ones. Have you considered recording with a mic of some sort like earbuds or wired headphones? Clear audio would be big boost for your videos.
@farrisbuellersweekoff yeah I have tried with earbuds but it didn't change the audio. It's weird. I don't hear the background noise when filming, only in the editing process. Even if I don't have the washing machine on or the heater/heating on. My phone isn't anything special, so wonder if that plays a part.
Congratulations 🥳. So well organised. With regards to the trampoline, i have to agree your toddler will absolutely love it right up until he’s probably about 13 years old. I would get a big one that way you won’t have to replace it. If you move , provided you have a back yard they are pretty easy to pack up and put back together.
Thank you! Ugh... its the moving thing... and not knowing how likely we would get a garden (highly unlikely, as most 2 beds are flats).
That speed car is pretty cool, my 3 year old would love it 😂
My mum got it for £16 on amazon I think. I personally can't wait until it breaks lol. The music reminds me of a cyber disco or oddly, the PS2 lego star wars 'pub' room music. Idk why. 😆
Hi Nicole. Just watching one of your older videos. Glad it all worked out ok ☺️
I‘ve decluttered my sons Christmas gifts from his dads side of the family as soon as we hit the road back home and got rid of it immediately. Good thing for us is they never visit and dont know what we keep and what we dont, otherwise they’d surely be upset. But they always buy stuff for children older than my toddler son and dont care about his safety. So out it goes. Loved your video as always! ❤
@@julia_ellermann I bet that's a lot of stress of ya plate! Did your toddler notice anything was missing?
Before watching this I just watched a video about a lock box and was seriously thinking of getting one. Not anymore though 😂
Haha, love it when that happens 😄
I do the similar thing (watch, DVD, even VHS with favorites, radio with some CDs). I even think about getting a digital camera because I try to not use phone, even leave it at home but sometimes I wish to be able to take a photo or two. I would even be able to buy newspapers (didn't find any title that I liked) in order to read news from it instead of twitter because I don't like when my child sees me staring at my phone. Then we could make some art work, paper airplanes etc. with it. Living in the 90s kinda style
Great mum 👍👍👍
I absolutely love that you’ve found more stuff to declutter after just decluttering after Christmas 🎉 Our girls absolutely love those train tracks! Aaaand we go to the local library to play with them 😂
Wow! Does your library have a toy library thing? They aren't well known/wide ranging here, so that sucks. My whole family, especially my sister, loves building the tracks. My toddler has train track at both my parents and my sisters home, ranging from a basic circle and 3 trains to something more complex. If we had a car, I don't think they would have any toys for him, but we don't so it makes the most sense. I did a declutter at my mums yesterday, everything but playdough, a big car, 3 books and train track stuff went. And my sister did the same at her house, expect he has a scooter and a ball there. And I did the same at my dad's last month... though dad insists on hanging on to more there lol. Eh. His home.
@@extrememinimalistparent Yes! Our library is amazing here. They have tons of toys we can play with and we can also borrow some other toys and games. We are so grateful for that because it really allows us to keep our collection even smaller 🎉 Wow, I love that your family has toys for your son in their home. That's such a blessing to have family close to you! (We live about 5 hours flight from ours)
I LOOOOVE all these toys declutter! Well done 🙌🏼
I think for indoor toys we have narrowed it down to an ikea size bag of train track and the famous white plastic boxes from ikea full of train accessories. Then just a little tea party set, that steering wheel, the C board, the toy pram and a ball. Then a plastic bag of books. A plastic bag of DVDs. Outside is a lot bulkier in terms of stuff, but only adds up to 20 items, including the sand table accessories. Most of the train accessories are duplicates in terms of what they are, but not in how they are made or their size. (He's a huge thomas fan lol.), but I think we truly do have almost every type of main character and every type of vehicle now! If we didn't have a garden (or if our garden was easily accessible without supervision) things might be different, !s in, the outside toys would be heavily used. Regardless, he doesn't need anything else until he breaks or loses it all. Expect a trampoline according to everyone I know. Ha!
@@extrememinimalistparent It seems like you've got a great hang of what works for you, and that's the beauty of minimalism ❤
Can I buy the lock box off you? I really wanted to try one! Ypur videos always motivate me to gwt rid of bits and bobs!
@@MissEgyptian12 it's already gone. I filmed this yesterday and let it go this morning!
May I ask what your family says when it becomes obvious that you decluttered some stuff they bought for you or your son? How do you speak to them so they are not sad?
@Izabela-e6v it'll be a total lie to say that aren't upset... some more than others, especially initially. Over time, though, the majority of people know that unless I've been particular about something we wanted, then it's best not to bother. But even then, like the case with Bluey (and from experience with my oldest), just because they love something one week- it doesnt mean they will the next. Kids are ever changing, as they develop, more so than parents who are much more stubborn/slower to change. I've been a minimalist for 10 years, and it's still a struggle for 1 of them to accept it.
Aww. Bluey period is over. They grow up so fast. If your family doesn’t know enough by now to ask you for suggestions for presents, I don’t know what to say. Let someone else enjoy them. My kids never enjoyed the signs, trees, etc from the train sets.
@laurac56 I am glad I am not the only one. The only other thing he likes besides the trains and track is Peppa characters for putting in the trucks and the traffic light, stop and one other signal. I think the rest will be decluttered in six months if he doesn't pick up an interest now that is a serious train track lover. 😀 As off today, we have 5 more thomas trains from my mum. I think he's had 7 new toys since Christmas? Other side of that, is that just today, at my mums house, I've decluttered all the bluey stuff he had there and the rest of the mega blocks. He now has a ride on car, paper and pen, a small bag of playdough and accessories and a tiny train track, a bluey figure (just in case ha) and 3 trains. Plus my mum has a dog and therefore has tennis balls, bubbles and a water thing for them, so kinda his, kinda not.
As her twin it totally fine mostly.
@@Leansophfiti didn’t know my crush was a twin, nice to meet you 😊
they sell refills for those pens! look it up, i live in scandinavia so i just find them in stores but you may be able to order online too if you cant find them where you live
I love that your dad supports you in emergencies! My parents do the same and I too use all of my moms emergency stuff at my house..rn I‘m wearing her slippers lol ..always thought I was the only one..but why not use it if its available?
@julia_ellermann I'm glad to see I'm not alone. My mum left her slippers over Christmas and I'm using them. I also was told to 'borrow' their kettle and because I've gone mad and had like 4-6 teas and lattes a day, I will be giving it back. XD
@ Haha sounds just like me! Thats why we don’t have many things at home because mum- so me goes overboard at times and I‘d rather not so out the thing goes xD
@julia_ellermann relatable XD. But that's not to say, I'm not tempted to go crazy either... especially when he shows an interest in something!
Im half way through the video and saw you discuss the dinasour. I need advice as im not as experienced in minimalism yet and have decluttered 80% of it all to be minimalim but not extreme. He has 3 small baskets of toys and books and stuffies, i rotate 1x a month and their all open ended. I rotate between his off brand nugget we just got and balance beams as well. However im struggling with the outdoor items.. hes 2ish and some was bough new or used. Water/sand table he doesnt touch much, push tricycle he cant reach and rusty, scooter that he just got so keeping, baby balance bike he will barely ride on his own, one for when hes bigger and can reach it, tikes car he likes sitting in, and couple balls and a pull wagon of cars and dinasours. He only grabs one or two and just bites on their tails. I have a huge backyard to store it all but my mind feels less spacious lol help
For outdoor items, we currently have a scooter for when he's older (was his brothers), a younger age scooter that I can push/he can sit on, a ride on car, a swing ball set, a football goal, a water/sand table, 2 footballs (1 soft, 1 hard), and we might get a trampoline or basketball hoop in the future if we stay in this flat with a garden. How old is your kiddo? And what's the westher like where you are? Sounds like the tricycle might be good to declutter and the water/sand table if it can't be changed into something else.
As for the dinos, maybe just keep 1-2 for now? They are usually a very easy thing to find at donation stores if they ever showed an interest again.
@extrememinimalistparent he's 2 ½. He loves going for walks and the swing so I ordered a new net swing for our front tree to replace the baby one. We have alot of playgrounds and rn we live in Texas and move in 9 months. We're military so move alot. I thought about a new trampoline but I heard their dangerous and I have anxiety lol
@extrememinimalistparent yes I found them all at the thrift store and because I like them he still doesn't know what they are lol ill keep 2 dinos for now thank u
@feliciasuris2381 I kept 4? Dinosaurs that were much smaller than the one I decluttered but if he doesn't show an interest without guidance... I kinda think what's the point? I'm so pissed I didn't wait a few more days to think through a few more items throughout the house, because I've got a bit more realistic since the initial purge and found more items. (Also, been given more items ALREADY! Meh.)

How come you like to wear black?
@HazelHomicide1 It's easy, hassle free, avaliable everywhere, predictable etc. Can be worn to everything and for everything expect maybe a wedding or like I said, a color requested event.
Dark Academic Grunge-there’s your style. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what people sleep in, but general idea out there is that young children should be in non-flammable pajamas to sleep.
@laurac56 I think when he's older I wouldn't care if he slept in PJs. BUT until he's at least 7, I'd prefer he wore PJs/Onesie to bed. :) As for me, as long as its not tight, I'm good ha.

@VICTORIAGELLINI if I was poor at the point of this tour... oddly, I would have a lot more stuff from the fear of having none and knowing me from previous years, probably from trying to hide the fact I was poor.
And to add, the rest of my videos would make zero sense. You can be poor and minimalist, but it wouldn't look like this.
So?
I dont have the tissues, the hot water bottle or the 2nd bottle. However, I have heavy TOTM tablets and 2 others from a recent 24hr sickness and Peppa Pig plasters. 😅
I admire your bravery and willingness to share your struggles about internet addiction and how you want to change not only to help yourself and improve your life, but for the sake of your son as well. ❤You're a good mom - even if you're not perfect and not where you want to be yet. I believe in you! 😊 You help show me where I can/want to try to be better with tech too. Thank you for making this video. I didn’t know I needed to hear this from another extreme minimalist - it’s validating and comforting to know that someone else is experiencing what I am. Your journey of switching to physical items is really mirroring my own. And honestly, I’ve been struggling a little bit with it. I'm a more extreme minimalist myself, and the past couple of years have been what I'll call "mindful gathering" for me. I definitely relate to the struggle/balance of adding more physical possessions to improve my life, but also not wanting to add too much more. A few years ago I decluttered all my books (I had less than 10). It was so freeing and I never regretted that. I mostly used the library too and have taken full advantage of my library system's ebooks especially.😊 Well, this year, after careful consideration, I decided I wanted to bring a few books back into my life - books I've read from the library that I've referenced several times that are my favorite. It's much easier to flip through a book and find what I want when I need/want to read it than an ebook. Plus, I wanted to reduce screen time as well and not have everything I do be tracked constantly. I also bought a handful of books to help with my language learning/books in my target language. That felt really important to me and it has helped my learning progress. Also after not being able to do art for several years because I have pretty severe arthritis in both my hands (even though I'm only 35), I've recently found out about adaptive art tools. I've been investing in those and buying art supplies because I can't do the majority of art I used to do. I'm having to build up my art supplies nearly from scratch and trying to balance having varied art/craft interests but also making sure I can use up &/or not forget what I actually buy. There's a few other areas of my life where I'm wanting to go more physical too (like photos, alarm clocks and certain personal writings/notes and stuff. Like you said, who knew we'd go back to having that pre-tech stuff from when we were younger after several years of not needing to have it. I think for me too, it's the fact that I'm struggling with organization - on where to store it all, therefore it feels like it's all over the place. Since I highly value an orderly, visually calm environment that’s functional, I’m struggling a bit with my limited space. And it boils down to this as you stated: as people, our needs, wants, and desires change. We're still minimalists, but we've changed. And like you said, our needs and wants might change again in the future. It's not about the amount of possessions we have - it's a mindset. I have what I need and I'm now able to get the things that can support my current life and my needs further. And honestly I believe most people would think we’re both still rather “extreme” compared to the general population. 😊
@Elle_Gael I appreciate the time it took to write this out! I've since decluttered another bag full of stuff because we opened up toddlers' birthday gifts early. He got a water table with huge supplies, 3 thomas trains (he loved them both) and a car track (like a train track but flat) and I really don't know if that will stay. I got a Christmas item by accident that was suppose to be my mums so she will take that and I decluttered a wall mirror that I had years ago that was at my mums, that I took to mine and changed my mind on. I brought 24 colouring pens yesterday as I lost 3 for my BJ. However, they run thru the pages so my sister can have them for her colouring and I will either make do with the 3 colors or rebuy the 5 I had before. I didn't even take them out of the house and yet they seem lost forever. Managing the extreme minimalism (everything on a phone) and physical tech started as a back up for when my phone broke and I didn't have anything to listen to or read or tell the time. But now it's evolved into sensibly collecting physical media. I found books recently that I read before and enjoyed and really wanted to re-buy them. I decided not too, based on previous knowledge on how unlikely I don't re-read physical media. Which is fine. But I'm also just now realising that it's not a strict no, but rather a ebs and flows one. I'm still an extreme minimalist, but I'm letting go of it as a strict identity and rather something like a habit, like for me... eating an orange a day. Y'know.
The little things adding up quickly. I understand about the nail polish for sure. Have you ever tried nail stickers? My best friend wears them almost exclusively and loves them. They don't take long to put on, clean up with acetone and a nail brush and last for a couple of weeks. I personally don't like the feel of them, but it's a possible option for sure, if you still want colored nails. 🙂
Awesome! Great job! I definitely need to do some "cleaning house" of my phone and laptop. Thanks to you I revisited my "scroll down" (?) page (which I also keep as minimal as possible for the same reasons) and somehow finally figured out how to get it even MORE minimal! For a year and half (since I got it) it's been bugging me that my brightness bar is way at the bottom and I just somehow saw how to move it and also remove the media and device control buttons (which I never use). So thanks! and I need to delete some emails I saved for reference but if I'm being honest I never will! ❤😊
Awe, I love that I gave you a little bitty reminder to do something. I hope it helps!
I completely understand the nail polish issue. I wash my hands, veggies, toys, my child's hands so often that it rubs off so quickly. Not worth it.
Good for you! What is it with toasters? I hate having a toaster even though it gets used by my household (including myself) a couple times a week and goes away in a drawer right underneath where it is used. If I was alone, I wouldn’t have one. I’d make do with my oven or a pan on the stove.
That what I use.
@laurac56 If I had a larger family or we were out the door before 8am, I understand the appeal but I just don't.
Hi there beautiful. Just an idea with the name of your channel. I really like your old name extrememinimalist but it was a bit hard to find. Recently I've had this kind of nostalgia towards the 90s (when I was a child/teen) and getting some of the simplicity back. Less digital stuff, more analog. And I miss things like being excited for a new episode of friends on x day at x time.
@Victorialindblad I understand. For some reason I'm really enjoying non white homes.
I find so much inspiration from your channel.
