After 15 years of Windows - starting with Windows 3.0 as GUI on DOS 5.5 - I had the opportunity in 2007 to get professionally familiar with Linux with Kubuntu. Then this company carried out an "administrative streamlining" and switched entirely to Windows. For me, this was the beginning of the usual distro hopping, from Kubuntu to Mint Cinnamon, which I used for a long time but was never really satisfied with. So I took a short trip to Ubuntu, and finally - after several live sessions with Debian itself as well as Deepin, Neon, Pop-OS and Vinari - I found in ZORIN OS (v16 at that time) the distro that best met my requirements (look and feel including due to their extra layer of polish applied). As ZORIN OS provides various preconfigured desktop layouts, easily customizable by the user, my desktop environment initially resembled Windows I was familiar with, and gradually changed visually to more of a minimalist Mac OS. ZORIN OS provides a time or event-controlled transition at sunset and sunrise from a light surface to a dark surface. For me, this visual adaption is an important aspect, because it is easier on the eyes during a long working day. A corresponding browser plug-in ensures that Internet pages also follow this visual adaption. Switching between my task-oriented workspaces using the animated 3D desktop cube is also appealing eye candy. Over time, I found enough applications that run on Linux. Even if this involves adjusting my workflow and making certain compromises, I prefer this to a certain software manufacturer looking at my data uncontrollably through its own "window" and being able to evaluate and process my data without my consent. I find the increasing transformation of this operating system into an advertising platform unreasonably intrusive. At the moment, the only noticeable limitation is the scanning function of my 12-year-old multi-function device, which cannot be used under Linux. The device itself installed in the network was recognized as a printer by Linux and correctly integrated without my intervention. Since the multi-function device is in another room, I use an Android app to occasionally scan documents, which is more convenient anyway. In addition, the potential risk of malware is significantly lower than with Windows due to the still relatively low distribution of Linux, but above all due to its hardened operating system architecture: Just as 8 million Windows computers were paralyzed by "CrowdStrike Falcon" in July, this snake oil software also caused the temporary failure of numerous Linux computers in April of this year by interfering with the kernel mode (ring 0). ZORIN OS v17.2 has now been running for 1 year and 38 days on my Framework 13, which was delivered in December 2023. This manufacturer offers the user the same freedom in terms of the possibility of maintenance, repairs and upgrades. This means that hardware, operating system and software are consistent in their philosophy. Many users use their computers to surf the Internet, do online banking, watch videos, manage holiday photos and write letters. It is particularly advisable for these users to switch to a Linux distribution. The console or terminal is no longer needed to make relevant system settings; these can be done conveniently with a mouse click.

I've been using XFCE for about 20 years now. I've tried them all, but keep coming back. It's an amazing piece of software. Just works, feels so familiar, nice and snappy. Don't get fooled by the bells and whistles of the other DEs. For me XFCE is king. I do have my issues with Mint though and also how they've skinned XFCE, but those things are an easy fix.

I started using Mint full time on a refurbished laptop back in 2015. For the 10 years prior to that I was dual-booting Ubuntu/Windows on my desktop. Laptop died earlier this year, but I've been using Mint on two desktop systems for a very long time. Have 40+ Steam games on my main Mint machine, and they run great. I tested/used 45 different distros over the last quarter-century, and concluded that Mint was the best of them.

Long time Linux user here. When I started using the internet back in the mid 90's, the email client saved the emails to your hard drive, restricting email mobility between computers. Google came along, then Gmail became available by invitation, and I was fortunate enough to be offered one of those invitations. I loved Gmail because I could access my emails no matter what computer I was using. Google became larger and greedier, grabbing all the user data they could, so I'm now using Proton as my email provider, and I've been very happy with it.

There is only what's right for you, pick one; try it; than pick another! You will heaven soon enough iis one that does things the way you like it! Don't listen some jerk who tells you that this is best or you should use this one! ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT IS BEST, AND LINUX HAS CHOIES! Choose one, if you don't like it choose another. There are many choices I use Linux Mint and Distro hop! Find your dream, Linux can help!

Major problem with many email clients I've looked at is that they ONLY display emails in columns (folders, email list, and email content, going left-to-right). I want the three-pane layout with folders on the left, then the email list and message content as top and bottom panes respectively. Like the layouts you showed for Evolution and Betterbird (Thunderbird does this as well, but you were showing the alternative layout).

Oh, man... I was looking for my "perfect" email client and saw your video and was hoping that I would finally find something after searching for weeks. But alas... Seems like Linux still has ways to go in this regard. I've already tried all the clients you mentioned (and a few more) and have also encountered the same issues and have the same complaints as you. I am also currently using Betterbird as it is, by far, the best Linux email client I've tried (although still not my "perfect" one). On my Android phone, I've been using Edison Mail and recently switched to Spark Mail and I think they're both really great. I just wish they'd developer a version for Linux. They both have versions for Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. But no love for Linux. :( Anyway, still great video!

I've been using Z for several years. It's rock solid reliable... wonderful. - _Pros_: 1. Very reliable. 2. Software update comes up automatically, even to go to the next release. - _Cons_: 1. This is probably minor,... I can't figure out how to make new desktop icons for my bash script files... There probably is a way.... I just haven't ran into it yet. 2. There is a fairly long boot-up time. Although it may be the fault of the PC... it's on a fairly older IBM Thinkpad laptop. 3. Cannot deselect certain programs for software update. I can click on them in the Software Update panel, but nothing happens. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- General gripe of all Linux distros .... There is no Hibernate or Sleep setting to activate, so that I can return to the PC and it resumes where it left off at.

If you know what needs to be done, it is just the matter of locating the right tools, I can churn out 4k videos though the rendering times are much higher. For detailed coloring I still have to go Resolve. Only thing that pains me I cannot generate XML out of kdl so that I can give this to colorist. OTIO somehow doesn't work.
