Great videos mate. I fish very big, fast braided rivers here in NZ and tend to leave the waders at home opting for wet wading most of the time. Better off chilly than dead. Things can go pear shaped in an instant. I hope people take on board your info. Good on ya.
Some nice fish, great session. Did you ever release the “secret fly”
You'll have to come in store with Pat's favourite coffee to get that info... (here's hint though, it rhymes with bare's chair nymph...)
haha Pats the man!
Ain't his first Rodeo!
i have one question, does it matter is you use streamers in rivers because i have see people fish them like that i thought they would be used mainly for lakes and impoundments? thank you.
Hi there! Streamers are probably the most versatile type of fly there is because you can fish them anywhere. We extensively use streamers in rivers; both different types and styles (keep an eye out for how a to fish streamers in rivers video, coming hopefully this year). If you need any more specific advice for your river conditions and what streamers to use please let us know! Cheers! Mickey
@@TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing thank you , also looking forward for that next episode.
how does this compare with a kokopelli xpd? would you say the NRS is tougher?
Hi Leo, The NRS is lighter overall (by about a kilo) than the XPD but reinforced in particular areas that apply especially to fishing; for instance where your wading boots rub the deck. We've paddled both extensively and I'd say the NRS is tougher where you need it to be for fishing and will suit any rough adventure you could throw at it. Cheers!
I've fished that stretch many times. Changes in water level, weather and time of year make it feel completely different from one trip to the next. Sometimes the rainbows are dominant, sometimes the big browns slip out to play. Such fun!
What's the net you're using?
That would be the Medium Mclean Short Handled Weigh Net, available on ur site. Cheers!
Ultimate purple nurple
Purple UV is an excellent colour on any stream!
Awsome more please
We'll keep em coming!
The cold water will make you hyperventilate, so expect that, and after you get your knees to your chest focus on taking deep breaths. Another good reason to practice so you know what to expect when it happens for real.
The Tumut is a cold river, especially for Australian standards, good point!
Great explanation of all the different methods. Thanks guys
No worries! If you have anymore questions on lake techniques for winter feel free t reach out to the store!
Great education video, I fish rivers and streams in Wisconsin. People advised me to get a wading belt but I didn’t. I can now see its importance!
Glad to hear it! We'd love to make it over your neck of the woods to chase Musky one day!
How about a good wading staff?
wading staffs are an excellent raft option, if you check out our wader description: www.tomsoutdoors.com.au/collections/fly-fishing-gear-waders-footwear-all you'll see a few extra tips and tricks for wader safety!
U deserve more views, really pro work
Really professional videos, u deserve more views, I subscribed
Thanks for the kind words! Our team really appreciates it!
very valuable pair of videos.
Thanks! We're keen on making sure everyones staying safe and having fun out there!
Great advice.......thanks
No worries! You're veery welcome stay safe on the water!
Put your fly rod between your teeth at the cork if necessary drown but don’t let go of that fly rod ever!!! 😅😂
One caveat, if you about to be swept into rapids and certain death you then can grab a tree branch instead haha!
Love the vids Lots of energy and well presented Brett
Pats nothing but pure trout energy in human form! Cheers!
A fellow angler gave me a pair of boot waders that were too big for him, but there was no belt. I see how important it is to have one now.
Hungry now!
I am forever hungry! Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! The jaw on that big brown! Amazing guys!
They do get some pretty big kypes in that once they get that big!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Your fun and happiness levels…through the roof!
Thanks! We're pretty happy doing what we do!
Insane! Those browns were beautiful! The hit and the catch…fantastic!
Pat did hit a pretty perfect day up there last season!
Thanks for the show and tell Pat. What about if you’re new to the game…can you list some basics to begin with? Won’t be trashing through bush yet.
No worries! To start off a basic kit would consist of, flies, fly box, leaders, tippet and nippers (or scissor forceps). These are the absolute essentials that you'll use everyday and which you can build upon based on the time of year you're fishing and when you start to bush bash.
Mickey…loving your intro series. Question…if you need to change your fly, do you remove the tippet and the fly…to set up a new tippet with a different fly? Or just the fly? I was thinking that you could reuse the tippet and fly, as long as the tippet was still in good condition.
Hi! If your just changing the fly no need for a new tippet every time, just check the tippet for rough spots or knots when you do change over. Thanks for watching! Mickey
Mmmmmm , worth considering 🤔
Very considerable, drift-able, fishable and fun!
Thanks for a very informative video. I guess I need to buy wet wading pants now. I tend to overheat with waders.
Always good to have different layers you can run under waders depending on the conditions, and always avoid jeans at all costs!
great video! for the mens SRM, do you think you could fit some layers under for the colder months? say a lightweight puffer?
You most likely could but without knowing your own exact personal measurements and thickness of your puffer it's difficult for us to say for sure. You're more than welcome to come and test some out in store!
Do warranty repairs go through you or back to NRS?
Hey, If purchased through us, we are your first point of contact for warranties.
Also it's worth noting that the NRS Riffle comes with TZIP lube and some adhesive repair patches should you happen to puncture unintentionally.
Hey Mickey great video! just wondering what line are you using, floating or sinking?
Hi! I'm actually using two different sinking lines in this video but we break them down in another video on sinking lines that you can see here: ruclips.net/video/3hTBsFzbUgk/видео.html
Great thank you
I love how the first 6 seconds show how an awesome planned day of fishing could turn so dramatically if not being watchful
Gotta be careful!
"giant pile of floatant" hahaha
Nice video. Looks fun! Thoughts on the NRS slipstream?
Best raft I've fished from. Very impressed.
We love them! A dream to row and super comfortable
Great content guys!
Cheers man! Dean and Pat do a wicked job behind the lens!
Such a great day! Gaz and I are still talking about it. I've done my version of a look at the whole experience over on my RUclips channel as well, if anyone wants to have a look... and you'll also find the full length version of the one with Garry's earlier spectacular swan dive into the icy Tumut! Worth a look...
Unreal day on the water! One for the books for us as well
Dad jokes aplenty. Fantastic to see
So much fun!
So that's how we didn't fare well with the numbers. Mickey secreted a hand of bananas onto the boat . . . pfttt!. Lots of familiar scenes there. Maybe I'll come back to haunt you. 😉😂 Hey Mickey! Where's me photograph of the one decent brown?
Haha! I always have bananas cause as Obi Wan said, "There's no such thing as luck!" Send us an email and I'll dig that picture out for you mate!
This is so awesome, looks like you all had a ripper day👍👍
We certainly did!
As a relatively new fisherman, I greatly appreciate the knowledge. Keep it up. Good show boys
great work sir
Those packs and its smaller brother the hip pack cant go wrong. Best investment i made
Mine too! Use it everyday.
I need that backpack
They're a pretty solid bag!
Do you ever carry any shark fin protection?
One of the more underrated items in the bag, very important
Those packs are deceptively deep. 🙂
30L of flies can fit in the Guidewater Pack!
Do you carry a PLB Pat?
On remote trips I always carry a Garmin GPS + satellite phone for messaging and emergencies out of service
So , I’m curious if having a tight belt is required to limit amount of water into waders. Often I get nervous because i feel that at some point, I’ll just sink if it’s too deep and be too heavy to get out
The belt definitely prevents water from rushing down to your legs but it won't fully seal. It's super important to bring your knees to your chest and trap air in your legs for floatation and swim to where you can stand ASAP!
Awesome video
