Since it has sentimental value, I would keep it same as it was. Even if you pick it up once a year, still fine. Without sentimental value, change the pups to play it more. Well, important is you enjoy it and it reminds you good memories, even if it doesn't pass to next generation...

leave the soul of the guitar intact as it was intended. You have modern guitars already. The fact that the guitar sounds vintage should be the reason you would want to play it every once in awhile. Get a glass case for it and hang it on a wall, so can see it and maybe that will inspire you to want to play it as is. Just my 2 cents.

I beleive your freind would want you to play and love it, so I think you should do the mod. While I feel similar to you about low gain pickups I do pull out my more vintage sounding guitars sometimes to try and channel some different vibes. Also, you may have use of that tone for a recording down the line. Just give life to it however you decide to (but play it)

Given the sentimental part, i would probably keep it stock, or at least only make mods that can be easily reversed should you want to go back to stock.

You're right. This is the Best of the Best shedder guitar in the world for this quality and PRICE (and case!!). I've been using Ibanez since the 80s and recently I wanted to get something different (Jackson, ESP, EVH, Schecter, PRS, Kramer, Suhr, Washburn, etc.), but there's nothing beautiful enough for my taste, so I keep coming back to Ibanez. Lol. I almost bought PRS with floyd rose models under $2,900, but then I realized, PRS does not include case - unless you pay $5,000 (or more). Lol. You gave a lot info about this item. I didn't realized this guitar body top are curved differently. This is what I really liked about that. Thanks again.

If money is no issue, would you rather have the Schecter or an Ormsby? I've been eyeing the Dino Cazares signature after playing Ibanez for so many years, but I've heard great things about the recent Schecter models. Had a Schecter 7 string like 20 years ago and the neck on that thing was as thick as a baseball bat, so I sold it, bought my first Ibanez and continued buying Ibanez-only all these years. The latest run of the Dino sigs from Ormbsy have a very subtle multiscale curve, as Dino himself complained about the fan being too aggressive, which is also the reason I've been avoiding multiscales. So these new ones give you just enough fan to tighten up those low strings without forcing you to contort/relearn how to hold a guitar. Only thing that's stopping me is the price and the waiting period. But at the end of the day I want the best possible metal guitar out of the box, so just looking for opinions. So, Schecter or Ormsby if money wasn't an issue?
