Hi Mike. I'm a retired military guy who's always had a passion for watches and now taking on watch repair/restoration as a hobby. My grandfather was a watchmaker, so the family says it's in my DNA. Anyway, I am working on a Bulova Watertite with 10BUC movement, and your video has been SO helpful! The mainspring in this watch is dead. My questions is where did you get the replacement GR4503 mainspring used in the video? I got a #53 10BCC Bulova replacement, and it did not come in a press in holder, nor did it fit to press it in with the way it was packaged. I ended up trying to do it by hand and the end broke off! Grrrr. Very frustrating. Any help you could provide on where you got that mainspring with push on holder (as in the video) would be so appreciated. Keep up the great work. Love the videos and I'm learning a lot.

Hi Mike , What a great resource your videos are ! keep up the great work ! . I am looking for some information and thought you might be able to point me in the right direction . I recently bought a well used C. & E. Marshall set and it looks like somebody tried to "restore" it by soaking in rust remover and now a number of the smaller holes on the anvil are plugged. I'm looking for original spec's for the holes diameters so I can limit the size of the cleaning effort to prevent damage - Also looking for recommendations for lubrication on the inner workings ( cam ,etc) for reassembly . Any help would be much appreciated - Thanks, Matt

That sticker on the inside of the caseback isn't an insulator- it's the piezo speaker. Those springs contact it and transmit power from the pcb to make the beeps! It's offset to line up with them.

Hey Mike. Nice staking set. I got a similar one from e-bay that required much more rust intervention. Mine has a balance staff jammed into one of the table's holes. Any idea how to completely remove the table to get at that blockage?

No gloves dude. Bad practice; you'll end up with hand damage and its not necessary. I made a grinder fixture to finish gravers using wet or dry. Works great. Rough grind the blade with a crappy 6" grinder, and then insert the tool into the jig and finish off with 240 and 360 grit on a piece of tool steel that I dusted off on a surface grinder. You could use a piece of glass. Looking at the end with a 10X loupe reveals a very sharp edge. Started out with 3mm HSS blanks. I think you're making this too hard.

I just picked up a vintage Hamilton LED. I ordered the correct replacement batteries that should arrive this week. I’ll be using your tips to clean it and polish it up. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can revive it!!

Mike...it's cool seeing your new toys. It's fun but quite precarious. I was thinking about trying my hand at this, but acquiring the tools is one thing...eBay. But where do we get the jewels?. And how does one go about sizing it if there is none in the table. The old one is broken off. I have an old South Bend movement I could use for practice if I ever decide to dive in, but finding the jewel is my biggest issue, and knowing what size to get. Hang in there. You'll get it. Just a matter of practice. 😎😎

Hi Mike. If you try flattening a part by rubbing it on 3000 with your finger, youll always end up rounding off the edges because the papers friction becomes a brake against the front edge and then the same as you reverse the stroke on the other end. A bit like putting on a bikes front brakes really hard and grinding the front end into the dirt. You need to use a flat surface like a leather buff stick to push it with. You can also mount parts on a really strong neodymium magnet. By using your finger, you run the risk of creating curved edges which will slide off other connecting parts or make life really hard for shepherd hook springs to sit on. Keep making the vids buddy. All good.

Hi mike. No new watches? What does that mean? Don't understand. Lol. I just collect everything that's broken on ebay and now have more watches than sense. There aren't enough days left in the world to fix them all. Even if you could, you'd never find a home for them all again. Fixing them doesn't make them worth more or more sellable. In most cases you have less chance of selling them because it's been fixed and there's nothing for the hobbiers out there to do to it. Thanks from Wales UK
