It weighs 3500lbs and makes 230hp it's not a fast car, it's not slow but definitely not fast

How fast a car goes at the top of each gear doesn't mean that it's a fast car Economy cars (VW Polo for ex) have super long gears and their slow as shit

@@nvl2691 believe me, e39 530i is a fast car. It smokes alot of new cars still..

@@nvl2691 dunno, it depends on a gearbox and a driver. Rarely getting passed on a road. Love this car. Its not a v8 sure, but i6 is very smooth engine.

@thomaschristopherwhite9043 i bought it at near 165k. I've since put 25k miles on it and all I've done maintenance wise to the engine is a water pump, thermostat, and resealed the oil pan and oil filter housing just becuase they had been leaking. Parts are relatively cheap and with websites like fcp euro you're getting a lifetime on EVERYTHING even maintenance items like brake pads and oil. Like you said take car of them they'll take care of you, if you get one I'd suggest you just inspect it once a month and make sure you arent leaking anything and that all looks good, following maintenance schedules is a little more necessary than a Japanese car like a Toyota or Nissan. If you want straight reliability I'd say get any of the inline 6 ones I know the 540s can be very finicky and give you issues. If you do get one I suggest getting a lower temp thermostat in it, it'll put a lot less stress on the cooling system and you'll have far less a chance any of the plastic bursts. If you get a manual one they're great and very reliable. Not to mention they are built really well and pretty simple to work on if you're mechanical inclined

@thomaschristopherwhite9043 also mine has no service history, when I did the water pump and thermostat they were oe parts, so they lasted about 170k miles. When you do replace things on these I do recommend oem or equivalent though, autozone parts will generally fail over and over and leave you with a bad experience

@@limestonemax9949 Thanks a lot man! I really really love the look of these cars. Especially given what BMW are designing now a days. I wanna get one before they eventually get pricey. Just wanted to know if they were a pain in the ass to an unreasonable level which I guess this is when BMWs really made things to last. But thanks anyway! @designed. everybody I had driven the canyons with stopped unfortunately and I'm always trying to get more outside footage its just hard since im a one man production. Definitely will be doing more installs and updates though

I want to see it all probably more than you guys do haha. I plan on building the spare engine with all of that stuff and getting it swapped in at some point

@terellethomas8051 it's cosmoracing.com it's basically just a copy of a dinan intake, they may ship you one that doesn't put it in the bumper and just puts it in the engine bay still. That's what they sent me and I added some more tubing to get it in the bumper, I talked about it in the $1000 e39 update video

@@limestonemax9949 The M54 is a tractor of an engine too :/ Driving one of the newer gen engines (N52 / N62) really makes you realise how antiquated the M5X and M6X platform feels in an E39 or E53, even E46

@nvl2691 ill take the simplicity of an m54 over the n52 in this case, even though the n52 is a great engine is wouldn't mind owning a car with one at some point

@@limestonemax9949 Honestly, having owned and pretty much redone everything on both, the N52 is simpler and objectively more reliable. It has literally no vacuum lines, the CCV is simpler and better designed, the VANOS system is more efficient and doesn't need a rebuild, and the Valvetronic components are very reliable. The M54 literally has a lot more going on in the engine bay. And driving them, well, numbers speak for themselves. A healthy N52 feels like an S54 in terms of character, the M54 is a lot less enthusiastic in general despite having very good torque

Well it and get a 530i m54 and do the basic performance upgrades all your losing is the V8 sound that's it

@marioenzo29 It's just the factory cluster with silver overlays to look like it, I always liked silver clusters and had to open it to fix the pixels anyways

@marioenzo29 I think the website was germanautotech.com, I tried ebay at first but was sent an overlay for an e46 instead, same company makes the e39 one though it's still cheap but it seems decent in the cluster

@alexissalguero5751 yes i had to do the oil pan gasket and while I was there I put red loctite on the pump nut and wire tied it to the gear

@user-ki4llalm6kr modern odometers can't be rolled back. I'm basing my mileage guess based off of documentation throughout the cars entire life and the fact it's 2 owner and I can faintly see 190k ish on the cluster. This car is no more then 200k guaranteed with the condition of everything on it

@sidbates3423 appreciate it mine is the exact same way! Over 185 thousand miles but the cluster lights are bad like they are on most of these so I don't even know the current mileage but for it's age it was so clean when I got it and still is

@@limestonemax9949 my cluster works they look brand new mine the exact same stereo deck Lol that’s wild, all the interior lights been replaced with LED’s it even has the M5 front bumper I really want to replace the rear bumper with the M5 but that’s on down the line,man I wished I had a manual drivetrain but when I put it in sport mode it’s a whole different beast

@connor530i no plans of going to auto shows and also no the intake does not pass smog, I also need to smog every 2 years and will probably just put the stock intake back on for smog.

@@limestonemax9949 okay just wondering cause like I said i want a intake but its annyoing to have to take it off every 2 years to smog it which isnt the worst but I feel it would over time bug me a little also not many people mod these cars so trying to make friends with people who own 530s or 540s who take them to car shows down in Car weekend

@connor530i I think they make legal Intakes and I know dinan has one that does the same thing mine does and I believe that one is carb legal those are just discontinued

@weedshoes5089 softer front would feel really Interesting but I'll look into it, right now I have a 500lb front spring and about a 400lb rear spring

@limestonemax9949 it would feel like a factory I6 car, but with about a 1.9hz bounce frequency in front, and 2.1hz in back and less understeer bias due to the decreased front roll couple %, perfect for really aggressive street driving. Factory is about 1.3hz F 1.4hz R. The factory I6 cars use softer front springs to keep the same frequency split as the V8 cars. No one selling off the shelf coilovers is going to tell you any of this.
