Water crossing gone wrong
In this video, a group of adventure seekers try to cross a river that proves to be too deep. Lead by an expedition travel training company, this group of mechanics from Washington State were learning valuable lessons in expedition travel and vehicle recovery. Overlanding through southern Utah just outside of Moab, this group spent the better part of a day getting their convoy of Toyota's and Land Rovers across this deep river.

Very cool. Curious if you went with the steel skids for protection vs. trying to save a little weight by going full aluminum? Thanks
Yes. I went with steel for more protection especially in the center of the 4Runner.
I just want to say you guys are du°°
Should have invested in a snorkle, instead of a roll of plastic 😂
Horrible excuse for training. Utah is always under fire to close trails and here are some idiots suppling those clubs more ammunition to close more trails… There are so many things that went wrong in this video. If you are from this club, please do not return to Utah without proper training. My recommendation is to take one of Bill Burks training courses Very sad
I like your set-up, it's very clean and not overly done. I'm new to overlanding and thank you for sharing your ideas, I have a Lexus LX 570 and I'm starting to slowly build it to be sustainable when overlanding or camping.
Pure idiot
For Sale, “ Never been in a rain 🌧️, always garaged. Only drove in a sunshine ☀️ days. We pampered and babied this car. Only selling due to growing family and babe on the way. Water stains in the seat is due to babe pee. Professionally cleaned 🧼 with no pee smell. Some residue swamp water smell due to natural cleaning solution but never toxic. Only the serious buyers needed. First come first served for this beautiful car 🚙.
Great video. Thanks for making it. Looks like they made some improvements to this version of the tent as they did with the Stellar variant. Put in the vents, upgraded the bar and posts (looks the same from the videos I watched) as the new Stellar. Was going to go with the Stellar but I like the improvements to this one and the larger side windows to allow more airflow. So I might get this one instead.
F that I’ll say with taken my JLU Rubicon to the mall 😂
Ever heard of riding the bow wave? Way too fast? ... and these are experienced operators?
Tacoma people... SMH
born idiots
Those people are trying to die.
You cut out how the last ute managed to move over to the right and up the embankment??
I stopped filming for a couple minutes to see if they needed help. They all jumped in the water and pushed and lifted the truck. By the time I started filming again, they had already moved the truck to the right and had it hooked to a winch.
These guys are professional? That was terrible. Waht a shit show and major hazard. So many things wrong an zero safety
Good video. Now subscribed .
Awesome, thank you!
Those vehicles are not set up to do such. Amateurs
Can you share how you mounted the awning?
180 Awning Install on @PrinsuRacks ruclips.net/video/1dNO-RDUmfY/видео.html
This video shows the detailed install. Thanks for watching.
Hahahaha the tow guy is an idiot
Stupid teaching stupid what could go wrong?😅
That's surely not training!!! Horrible example of training, irresponsible supposed instructors.
Hi, are those 1/4-20 bolts that are attached to the drop in t-nuts? Also, what size did you end up using? 1" or? thanks again
I live really close to here what a shit show
What an absolute crap show. I like sketchy and I like water crossings but that was a recipe for disaster from the start.
lol Americans have these monster 4x4s and yet no snorkle in sight anywhere... Australia you see snorkles on passenger cars in city downtowns...
These are not anywhere near what I'd call a "monster".
@sublime929 no these ones in the video aren't but in general
@@Moshikokotashima the "monsters" won't likely have the snorkels either as they are typically mall crawlers lol. Possibly rock crawlers but there's usually no water there. The Aussie stuff is more for practical use, the American stuff are toys.
Perhaps you take the bus. 😂
I need a group
Exactly how many inches thick is the Closed Shell - which would also include the TRACK that's welded on the bottom? Great video - Thank you!
Need this measurement also
it ended in hydro lock, that's how it ended.lol
Where was this? Looks a little like Poison Spring.
Years ago there used to be a show where teams driving Land Rover Discovery’s competed in an off road competition through some crazy terrain and obstacles. Good show.
Please find this show and share
@@YodaOverland Google Camel Trophy Was a great show. Not sure if you’ll find whole seasons but if you like off road competition you’ll love it.
*Someone needs to explain the brilliant Tarps on the grill!*
They help with water getting into engine bay and destroying fan and shroud.
Great way to have it come loose and get tangled halfway across.
Expedition travel in USA? What a Joke! there are gas stations every 20 miles and cell reception almost everywhere
lol not even close. Have you been anywhere besides the east coast?
I really wish that I can find cell reception and gas stations every 20 miles in Alaska.
TIGER LEOPARD ELEPHENT i saw everything. After watching your video, I got inspired to upload my video. Guys do leave your CRITICISM. I would love to hear what you think.
Land Rover 2. Toyota 0.
The problem with that is if you go for a longer trip and your battery is fully charged, now voltage has to drop to 13.5-13.8 volts. Called "float charge", if it doesn't happen youll overcharge your battery with 14+ volts. You solved one problem of underchaging and created another one of potential overcharging on a longer trips.
No snorkels needed. the only truck that really took in water was the tacoma that flooded. Thanks for the footage, guys. we definitely had a blast! Hope we didn't get to load at camp that night 😅
You guys looked like you were having a great time . My friend and I were jealous that we are not a part of the group. The water was too deep for my 4Runner. How did the rest of the trip go?
No snorkel on any of the vics. the Tacoma unfortunately didn't have enough time to dry out, so it got towed back and replaced by another discovery. Engine was fine, but again not enough time to dry the circuits out. Also the first vic to cross was a manual transmission if anyone cares 👍
"Training"? Or, "Learning the hard way?" I hope they didn't pay for that.
There is no safe way yo Cross that deep of a water body with a current with out a snorkel. They were lucky.
You can put a tarp over the front to stop water entry, apparently
@@danepickens508😂
What rack did you have on there before the prinsu?
I built my own rack using 2x3 Aluminium angled iron side rails I purchased at the local metal dealer and 4 ft 8020 aluminum cross bars from tnutz.com. Fun project, but wanted the peace of mind of having a rack with a load / safety rating.
@@destinationjourney_overland nice! Definitely looked very pro built!
Great video. I noticed you didn’t put an inline fuse on your ditch light wiring. The Garmin switches trip at 30A, but your ditch wiring looked thinner than 30A wiring? Unless I have missed something. Looking at doing the same in my rig. Thanks.
Thank you for this question. I have been trying to find an answer as to if I need to put an in-line fuse on the lower amp components. I have an in-line fuse on my refrigerator and DC outlet in the back both 15 amp. My compressor is running off of a relay and has a 40 amp fuse attached directly to the battery. My light bar should be good with the 30 amp provided by Garmin PowerSwitch. But my ditch lights only take 1.1 amps each so the could be fused down to 5 or 10 amps. But all I can find for instructions is to make sure to have the right gauge wire for each accessory. I’m gonna reach out to Garmin directly to understand why there is no need for an in-line fuse on lower amp components and I’ll get back to you with the answer.
@@destinationjourney_overland yes the manual doesn’t seem to mention this… I also thought that was odd. Local 4x4 shop said it isn’t needed however my two electrical engineering friends disagree 😂 And it makes perfect sense to never run cable below a fuse rating. The intern Garmin components will trip on a short (example wire rubs onto the chassis) or at 30A. If your ditch lights for what ever reason start drawing 25A and your cable is 15A rated, the 30A trip isn’t going to help, and you’ll melt your wiring potentially starting a fire. I am thinking of running an inline fuse block when I build mine, so all wires are fused right after the Garmin. Hope you share the reply from Garmin. Same issue with my low amp camping lights around the vehicle.
Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely going to hit some of those spots. One of the better Black Hills videos I've seen. Most just cover the usual tourist sites rather than the remote areas I'm looking for.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Great review, I just ordered one! With a 1” Riser would you be able to reach in to install the nut on a bracket on one of the middle crossbars. I have a 4Runner with Sherpa Creststone, so similar setup. Thanks
I’m not sure on the Sherpa. You would not be able to do that on the prinsu rack. What some people do is install the crossbar on the tent first before putting it up on the roof rack. But that takes precise measuring. If you’re getting 1 inch risers from prints, I would suggest also getting four extra grade 8 bolts, washers and lock nuts from the hardware store so you can have two mounting points in each riser. Prinsu only provides 1 bolt for each riser
Question, do you think someone 6.5 could fit in one of these?
It might be tight unless you lay a little diagonal. The mattress is about 79in and you are 77in. So you’re going to be going edge to edge.
Great work man, really enjoyed watching
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching.
Hello, what would you say is the best time of year to visit the black hills for camping/offroading like this? Also where is the best place to ask you a few more questions about this area if you don’t mind? Amazing video!
From what I’ve heard, summer is the best time. This trip was over Memorial Day weekend and it was perfect. You can message me on my Instagram account. destinationjourney_overland
Does it have to be Dometic faucet
I only did my research around the dometic. I would assume any faucet that uses the same size hose would work just fine.
Does it have to be dometic faucet to work. Ty btw I was trying to figure this out
The only primary issue I can see is if you are reversing, with reverse camera on, and wanting to utilize the touchscreen at the same time, maybe for winch, locker, or lights. Sure, can move it to park, unless your vehicle is in a precarious position. I'm possibly splitting hairs here. At that point, the phone could be used also. I'd like options of both touchscreen and hard switches, assuming real estate inside the cab isn't too limited.
Did you change the terminal connector of the 4 gauge cables from Amazon. It only comes with 5/16 and 3/8, still too big to connect to the power switch.
