Good advice in general. But I thought your student was going to cement the techniques by demonstrating that she can do it as well.
Thanks! We'll probably include that in the next video.
I own two of these paddles and it has upped my game, They now have a 14mm paddle
They're still the best value for the money performance wise out of all the paddles we've tried.
You need to emphasize that what you're teaching here is ONLY for doubles PB. This method is USELESS if you play singles PB.
Well, every live clip we are showing is doubles, and the illustrations are doubles as well. I think people understand that?
@@limitlesspickleball Yes and No. Many people think that whatever work in doubles PB also works in singles PB. That's not true. People who provide PB instructions should make those disclaimers at the beginning of the video.
So based of this video and all the comments just get the double black diamond 🤔 ? Either of these 2 paddles would be a major upgrade for me so 🤷🏻♂️
@@nicetrybruh8429 either one would be probably an upgrade for you. If you’d like to hit the ball hard from the baseline, go with the ruby. If your game is more up at the kitchen line and you like to hit punch, volley players, go with double black diamond
If Bangers hit the ball from baseline in front at you do not have good paddleball IQ at all!!!
Happens all the time to my students. And to most people who subscribe to this channel. Not trying to coach Ben Johns here, coaching the 90% of players who are below 4.0.
It is ok for anyone up to 4.0. and below. Higher ups with 'modern paddles' will be hitting harder. These younger bangers hit at such pace (80 mph!!?) you can't even dodge let alone respond in time. Moreover they are hitting with 'top spin', meaning the ball when blocked then to 'pop up' resulting in another merciless shot back at you. The dinking game is dead to them. They just relish driving all day. I know, I play against many like them. Only way is learn 'NOT TO GIVE THEM' the forehand plays. Hit to their backhand or weaker partner, again backhand or even 'drop to middle court'.
I don’t disagree. Most of my audience are intermediates or beginners and also closer to my age. I assure you it works very well against them.
Great tips!
Lots of kevlar alternatives now. Ruby is everywhere too now.
were you using a 16mm or 14mm ruby?
16 mm… That’s all they had out when I did the review. I have the 14 mm as well and honestly, there’s very slight differences. I’m fine with the 16 personally.
I think that works in tennis, too, no? And baseball and any sport you actually hit something with something else.
how much did they pay this guy # sellout
I played a bit. Then knew what I liked and did not like. Ended up with a j2k.
Thanks for the tip
Help me with advice. I'm a 4.5 tennis player (hard hitting, all court style of play) who just took up Pickleball and got the new Joola Perseus 16mm on a recommendation from a friend. I like the spin I get for hard serves, but the feel of the face is driving me crazy. Pardon my ignorance, but the feel when striking the ball, especially in volleys, is so "mushy", soft like a marshmallow. From my little knowledge, I realize this is tied to it being a control orientated paddle, but my goodness, I have technique from tennis for control of volleys and feel I don't need a paddle like this Joola to do it all for me. So I struggle with the nomenclature to express what I want more of in terms of feel: am I right to assume it is more "pop" I am looking for, or is it power?
OK, so that's not a paddle i would have suggested for you with your background....if the volleys are at the NVZ, I would say it lacks pop...but before you go looking for another one, let's try something. Do you have it weighted at all? If not, let's try adding a fair amount of lead tape at 10 and 2 on the sides and see if that helps. That should change the balance point, make it a bit head heavier and stabilize the response a bit more. Sounds like you need a paddle more suited to a power game than the Perseus. Since Ben Johns plays Joola's, everyone is Joola crazy, but it's not for everyone. Try it and let me know how it works...nothing to lose but $1 worth of lead tape.
@jeffgehm Thanks for the gracious reply! Alas, I returned the Joola paddle a couple days ago. But I will take note of trying lead tape on any paddle I get in the future. I mean, in tennis, I string my rackets tight since I swing hard and get more control that way. So I'm more used to a board like "feel", less trampoline effect. (I realize that the technique in pickleball for dinks and volleys is different--you don't step in to your volleys as in tennis and don't so much turn your shoulders sideways, etc.) In research, I'm now considering paddles like the SixZero Black Diamond Power and CRBN 1x. I mean, as a newbie, I'm learning that power and pop are distinct as your video points out--that you can have a paddle with high power and low pop, low power and high pop, or high power and high pop. Thanks again and best wishes to you and your channel!
Hey, good luck choosing a paddle. The 60 black diamond power has a lot of what you would be looking for. If you buy one, feel free to use my discount code of CoachJeff10

What are the weights on those paddle?
I liked your video a lot but it seems that omitted an important factor and that is the static weight of the paddle. I know that a paddle that is too heavy can affect ones play and arm health but can a paddle be too light? Also, while no one can dispute the fact that the Friday paddle is an outstanding value, it weighs I believe 8.3 ounces may be heavy for some people
So I’m not a big believer in the difference in static weight. I am a believer in swing weight and balance. I let virtually every beginner I play with who brings an Amazon paddle in try this paddle and I have yet to have anyone ask me what the static weight of the paddle is.they are always loving the size and spin and feel of the paddle. Can’t remember the last time anyone says that this paddle is heavy.
Classic dinking your doinks scenario. Thanks Coach.
Thank you for the ad

Hey, this is fantastic info! Really, I think you nailed my pickleball elbow problem. But no one else is really talking about this, how do you know this? Any sources? Thank you
It’s from my personal trials and errors of myself having tennis elbow. I spoke with a orthopedic surgeon who told me that was the problem.

My top pick for a beginner paddle and their new challenger is a perfect step up got a way better deal than advertised with code JADEN66185 as well
I’m looking to start playing this game and currently searching for paddles. From the videos I’ve been watching, this company pops up several times. I think I’ve made my decision. Now to figure out shoes that don’t break the bank!
Tennis Express has some cool tennis/ pickleball shoes...
Post more!! Love these reviews and in-depth analysis! Best RUclipsr I’ve came across. Thanks!
Thanks, I have some more content coming up hopefully soon. I appreciate your patronage.
I heard that cleaning technique is different for the Ruby than the DBD. I just ordered my Ruby to compare with my DBD, but just being cautious with the Kevlar and cleaning technique.
Use a damp microfiber cloth, or order paddle reset off of Amazon. There are a couple of other cleaners on Amazon that work as well.
Horrible customer service. Purchased two Challenger paddles on Memorial Day sale. 4 days later price lower. Asked for price adjustment; customer would not give the adjustment; stated Memorial Day sale was a “flash” sale. It wasn’t a flash when deal was run over a week. Kinda a weasel company. Good luck if you need the 99 Day Happiness guarantee (watch out; it’s only valid on the og paddle). My next paddles will not be from this company And any time I’m asked about Friday (a play in PHX very active PB community), I will share the above experience.
Plus, you will share it if nobody asks ;) Have a nice one!
Thank you for the in depth review! I've been using a Vatic Pro 16mm which I think is wearing down. For the price and the guarantee it sounds like the Friday paddles can't be beat! I''ll probably get the 2 for $139 Challenger T7. Cheers👍👍
Ok
being completely honest. i have the joola c2 ben johns paddle ($250 retail) and i hate it compared to the friday paddles. ended up buying 4 more to get my family playing. only downfall is that some of the paddles i ordered had a shaking sound. but they ended up shipping me another one and let me keep the faulty one.
the paint will also start to come off relatively fast w these bright color ways. but that doesnt bother me. theyre $50 and hit great
Cool guy keep it up
👍👌🙏🙏🙏
I have to disagree with the 7 for baseline. If you’re driving the ball you want to have a loosish grip so you can have sufficient lag on your wrist. In terms of drops I prefer a loose grip too but that could just be preference.

I only saw one diamond on the paddle. That would not make it a DBD.
Dude looks like a 4.0 players at best.

The gamma obsidian and prior to that, the gamma 205
That overhead went straight into the net. Guaranteed. The sound of the ball hitting the net gives it away.
Actually, it hit the top of the net and flipped over.
