Early 2025 Things on the mind – Jhana8
This video was just shot spontaneously last night as I was sitting on top of a viewpoint near our home in Krabi, Thailand. I mused about how I wish more people knew about a state of mind that is absolutely painfree... sufferfree. A state of mind in which the ego - the you, the self, just doesn't exist.
At the end of the video I talk a little about my goals for the new year - 2025.

The Deep Jhanas - my Experience and Take on Them
Просмотров 2486 месяцев назад
In this video I go over some of what the Jhanas mean to me and the experiences I had - completely unaware that such a thing existed at all. I stumbled into deep Jhana - all 8 of them. I didn't follow Buddhist teaching about them, nor did I even know there was any. This video is brought to you by Jhana8.com located in Southern Thailand. Update - Sisaket, Wat Pah Nanachat visit, Meditating for Jhana
Просмотров 2937 месяцев назад
This video is an overview of what has gone on recently. I'm in Sisaket, Thailand and just visited Wat Nong Pa Pong and Wat Pah Nanachat. I spoke with the guest monk at Wat Pah, it was interesting. I answer a question (sort of!) about whether I can enter Jhana anymore. I don't appear to be able to. To be honest, I haven't tried much at all - maybe 3-5 times since 2007? The state doesn't mean any...

On top of a small hill here in Krabi, Thailand is an ideal meditation spot and a place where I sometimes do meditation coaching sessions if someone feels like walking up the 300 steps with me! There's always a little wind there, but the sun hits straight down in that spot. Maybe I could bring a little tarp up to provide some shade and make it a bit cooler!? Should You Stretch Before Meditation? (3/60) | Jhana8
Просмотров 36Год назад
Should You Stretch Before Meditation? Some teachers will tell you that before you sit to meditate. You should stretch the muscles of your body before you sit down. Some people say that this will help your session because your legs won't hurt and your blood flow will increase. I have an alternative relaxation exercise that I think is much better when put in practice. It takes about 5 minutes and...

Buddhist Monk Shows Me a Secret Meditation Spot on a Cliff | Jhana8

I've known this Buddhist monk for about 10 years. I saw him one time at the temple and we walked up the steps together. At the top, he told me that he has a special meditation place in the limestone cost that he can show me if I want to see it. In his bare feet, he walked over the very sharp limestone, and led me to a treacherous looking place with a flat spot for one person to sit on and medit...

      I can confirm that drinking alcohol every now and then - in moderation, had absolutely zero effect on my meditation progress. Or so it appears. The craving for such things goes away the deeper you get into meditation. There's no need to stop it before meditating.

      Don't do it before your meditation, there will be no benefit, and only worse outcome, but do it in your off-time if you want. No matter when it is of small quantities.

    I have noticed too that a lot of monks for some reason don't know what jhana even is or how to cultivate it.. Kinda sad cause the buddha used jhana on daily basis. Also some do not even practice a lot of meditation

      @JhanaMeditation 6 месяцев назад

      Actually, I've been watching more videos about monks talking about Jhana and I see that most of them are just repeating the formula they saw in the Suttas. I think few grasp the reality of it. So fewer have ever experienced any deep Jhanas.

    I'm going on a binge through all your videos trying to learn more. The more I see the more amazed I am. It looks like you hacked the system. I'm at a very early stage and from this point I can feel whats underneath. And I get the feeling that all these monks doing podcasts and talks, have not seen what you have seen and are stuck in society. I can get a sense of what cessation is about and its not compatible with what monks do.

      good! I hope you found them useful. Yes, I think monks are not for the most part here in Thailand, just not very into meditation. They're still very secular and thinking about concerns of the flesh. There are monks at Wat Nong Pah Pong and Wat Pah Nanachat who seem to be much more committed to their meditation practice. :))

    Yes, It can be intentionally repeated. And should be easy for you from what you said your state of mind is. Please take a look at Manomayiddhi from Wat Tha Sung. I'm not sure it's gonna work for you because all of the materials are in Thai language. Glad to see a foreigner live here having these experience. And may help the world a lot if you wanted to. And you will also see many interconnect between those conscious and many Buddhism's taught. Hell, Heaven, Karma, Enlightenment. Blah blah. I think you have heard about it...

    Hey Vern I am skeptical about most things transcendental but when I read about your experience a few years back I didn't doubt the profundity of it. I was discussing the subject of the divine eye with my partner just today and wondered what happened to you and your spiritual awakening. That brought me here so have subscribed and look forward to your next video. Good luck with your experiment!

    Hey Vern, thank you ever so much for this prompt and detailed discription, you are definitely an intriguingly great person, you hit the nail to my question right on the hat. The thing I want still remark is, you say if someone is able to feel up to eight (roughly) breath continuously he would have sort of achieve something progress wise or capability wise. I am able to feel the breath nearly continuously a lot more breaths, sometimes the total duration of sitting (20 min) but still get no sign e.g. nimitta. There was one or two times were I got the feeling on my forehead similarly you talked in your books about (I have read all three books of you, they are very good) but it happened never again, by the way I am practising daily for 9 month now. I do set a timer to track meditation duration, but alas as I wrote you feel tempted to look at it after may be 20 min, when I set to 40 min (projected sitting lenght), and it feels infinitely long, so I look at the clock and am astonishingly shocked that only a relatively short time span has gone by.

    • @JhanaMeditation
      @JhanaMeditation 6 лет назад

      Thanks for your comment! When I was able to focus on the breath for many breaths at a time I simply let go of the focus on the breath and sat in stillness to see what else was there. This sometimes led to mind nimittas, but more often than that, it led to tingling in the hands. I changed focus to tingling hands and this became the nimitta that I 'went into'. For lack of better words to describe it. I focused wholly on the tingle. This led to the feeling growing to encompass me and Jhana. I think it's Ajahn Brahm who has some suggestions for getting the Nimitta to start in his discourse on Jhana. Here's the link > www.dhammatalks.net/Books/Ajahn_Brahm_The_Jhanas.htm

    • @JhanaMeditation
      @JhanaMeditation 9 лет назад

      +fritha grimmsdottir It could be similar. Maybe the same? Meditation requires focusing on a very small perception of the breath at the nose - so, that's already similar to how hypnotists take you 'under'. I think the two are similar. However, before you get into these meditation states, it takes months, not a couple of minutes. So there might be a qualitative or experiential difference. I was thinking about being hypnotized by a lady here to recall my floating ball of light in the hotel experience! Will let you know if I go through with it...
