In the 1940s - 1950s living in Detroit Michigan USA would by a huntsman type coat. The length would be around the knees. Just a big wool overcoat. They were expensive. I've seen very old men that have worn these coats for their entire lives. It's a good investment. Just take the price of the coat and divide by 30 or 40 years.

I have a couple of 1970s suits, all wool, and they are fabulously made. I love wearing them. The last decade too when coats were cut functionally and meant to be worn all day. One is a black/white herringbone tweed from England, three-piece, the other is a tan multistripe herringbone two-piece from Philadelphia.

Are you selling your caps? how much are they?

I've always wondered if the original double-breasted coats actually buttoned on both sides. I like how they look, but I've never wanted to have an extra row of buttons that were merely ornamental.

Used to have wear RAF shirts that had the separate collar.

Beautiful old sweater on Mr. Saxby, the real deal. Probably with the natural oils left in the yarn. Not the over-washed nonsense of nearly all makes today.

I'd love to have the opportunity to talk to you at length - in these days of incredibly variable sizing, plus my inability to get to a decent tailor (or to afford one, come to that) I find I can wear a 44" jacket - from some makers - but still need a 46" waistcoat to cover my 42" waist - it's all a bit of a mix. My options include losing weight of course; hard to do at 74 ... a bit of expert advice, if not actual garments because I suspect your prices might be a bit too much of a pull on my bank account, would be very welcome. Trousers with high waists, and braces, though - I so agree with you: hip fitting is actively painful if you have arthritic hips, and bloody uncomfortable - and look awful. When you mentioned wedding suits, I had a small cringe: I've seen these companies on Facebook offering wedding suits, fitting out the whole gang, groom, best man, their mates, in suits they'll probably never wear again (or would want to) just making them look - well, what word is available? I'll just settle for "crap", because their clothes don't fit. They shouldn't settle for them, but - don't know any better; men have forgotten how their clothes should fit.
