My name is Kaycee and I am the bestest red cattle dog Dad has ever known. I even let him drive me places in my truck. This is a place where I can share all my adventures and the stuff dad does to the truck in order to make himself more comfortable. All I need is an open road, good food, and someone to throw a ball when we get there.

After 2 years of thinking about it, We finally pulled the trigger on a battery powered chainsaw. Hauling fuel mix was such a PITA, we left the Stihl home more often than not. TLDR: We are very happy with this one so far.

Episode 5. No recipe on this one, but still cooking related. We use cast iron almost exclusively while on our adventures. We also use it at home fairly often. This is one method to quickly re-season a damaged skillet/pot/oven on the stovetop without the more traditional "oven" method or even the BBQ method. As always, feel free to ask any questions in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

Episode 3. Tried a quick trail side salsa from the tailgate using a jetboil stove, a $5 comal and a small bullet blender. Been wanting to try the concept a while, and finally had the time. Recipe: 1 jalapeño 2 Serrano peppers 3 cloves garlic 3 Roma tomatoes Salt to taste Roast everything on the comal. Cut up peppers/garlic and blend. Add tomato. Blend again. Add salt as needed. Put on tacos.

Episode 4 Another camp cooking idea. This one was prepped before hand for fast on the trail meals. The pork was reheated in its storage bag for zero clean up. Forecast said "mostly cloudy" and I had no plans to bust out the camera, but I looked up at the sky shortly after dark and said, "What the hell." This was shot at 14mm f2.8. 20 sec exposures at iSO 800. Had a 3/4 moon rising around midnight...cant remember what time I shut the camera down...

Hey Kaycee I am thinking on picking one of these radio up from HRO. Does the radio Tx up to 467.725 at 50 watts?
Absolutely! Just make sure you pick up a 2730A not a 2730E. Lots of exports popping up lately. The Japanese versions cannot be modified. HRO can do this mod for you for a nominal fee.

This mod I' can do in ICOM 2730E
There have been a couple people that have reached out after attempting this on the export models. It does not seem to function correctly.
Made ir, used lava rock, very heavy, flame does not spread well. Gonna make a cover for burner to put smaller rocks on. Hopefully will spread flame better.
Appreciate the input. The fun thing about the hobby is the trial and error. I’ve had way more projects fail on the 1st design than I’ve had successful ones

None. I take the lid off completely while using and wait until it’s completely cool before storing.

Do you have your pl tones set correctly?
As far as I know yes. Everything for 2m & 44 works fine .
@@MrRedneckEdGMRS repeaters are a little funny sometimes. I haven’t had issues with my local ones. Try contacting the repeater owner and verifying.

I don't think the Cerritos office gives a damn about ham radio. Basically CB. Cost too much to enforce Jamming Assholes on 147.450 & 147.435 ect... I would imagine They feel the same thing about GMRS and who cares if you modify your shit.

Thanks for the video. We are currently in Moab offroading and needed 151.625. We used a nail heated on a propane stove as the solder and a pair of dollar store tweezers in an enclosed trailer in the dark. It did the trick! Thanks man!

Hi Kaycee I am wanting to use the icon 2730a to transmit on 122.7 air band. Is this possible? I made the mod but it doesn’t work and I tested it using my handheld air band radio.
This mod opens up FM Tx only. Air bands are AM.
Is there a way to open the AM bands on this radio? Thank you for your response!

Hello! Help me with a problem with Icom IC-2730D. I removed all the diodes, but the station still did not open for transmission. What to do? Thank you!
The 2730D is set up for the Japanese market. This mod is for the 2730A which was designed for the US market. You would be the 2nd person that has had this issue with the Japanese model that has contacted me. I don’t believe the firmware on the Japanese version supports this mod. I would put the diodes back on the board and contact ICom to see if they can be opened up at all.
@@adventuresofkaycee Yes, but the crossband repeater opened with three buttons without any problems. Now it remains to learn how to open TX above 440 MHz...

Thank you! We made the switch to Victron from Renogy about 2 years ago. Running a DC-DC charger, Bluetooth shunt and their MPPT Controller. The interface/app control is more intuitive and provides better information.

Great vid....how did you get your name or the freq name to display on the sub band?
It’s a GMRS frequency (Ch7, Privacy code 4) as in Kaycee’s Birthday (July 04). I just named it as such under the channel name.
I’m looking at the 2730E. Do you know if the mod is the same for that radio as well?
I believe it only works on the US Model. Another watcher commented he had issues with an overseas variant.

Not sure. Were you working on a US model? I’ve done 20+ of these on this radio with zero issues.
Thanks for vid, learned a lot. Does this mod enable offroad race frequencies like 151.625? Would you use a different antenna when using it in GMRS frequencies from Race Radio frequencies?
Yes. This allows for the race radio / GMRS frequencies. As far as the antenna question, just make sure your SWR stays below 2:1 and you’ll be fine. You could carry 2 antennas and swap them as needed, but there are companies out there that make wide range antennas that can handle the entire spectrum - at least on the 2M end.

Thanks for this video, I appreciate your uncensored speech. I’m researching radios now for a 4x4 I’ll be building out next year. I’m between this and the Yaesu 6000R. I like this Icom though. Here in the UK we can get the export version so the TX range is 137-174, 400-470MHz. I’m seeing this radio may be a bit loud, so I’d like to ask you for your opinion of this? I’d probably be mounting the base in the back of the vehicle, as far away from the front seats as possible anyway.
Both ICom and Yaesu make solid rigs. In my opinion, it’s like a Ford/Chevy argument or more closely (photography) shooting Canon or Nikon. When you get used to menus, layouts of navigation, etc, it makes it harder (but not impossible) to operate the other brand well. Me? I’m just comfortable with ICom software. As far as loud, I would agree if you are using this in a shack, sitting on your desk. The cooling fan does make some noise. But off-road? Forget about it. My diesel engine is much louder. Also, I have the head unit installed behind the driver side rear passenger seat and never hear the fan. The nice thing with the 2730 is the ability to remotely mount the head unit and microphone. Also realize you would need to run a cable to an aux speaker that’s forward mounted as well if you go that route.

Thanks for the video. I bought (mistakenly) a 2730D in Tokyo. I have not gotten back home to try it. I hear that the spectrum is a bit smaller than US. Do you think the mod will at least broaden the spectrum to US standards? Of course will be nice to transmit on GMRS as I do have a license for it
There may be an additional diode for the Japanese version, but I’m unsure. I’ll try and research that for you

It looks like my post gets removed when I add my email on it. I wanted to send you a picture of the board. The only diodes there are D321 and the one across from it. I can’t read the number off the schematic. D307 and D315 are not there. What do you suggest I try, remove the existing two? In your final mod, are there any diodes left in the cluster?
