Lilyan Tashman and Kay Francis 1931 clip
Lilyan Tashman had the total package: elegance, beauty, brains and talent. Unfortunately she died too soon. Had she not been sick, her film career would have soared. But I'm happy that she made quite a number of talkies. I love the voice!
And her dress is gorgeous!

I put this together because I was incredibly sad to see a classic film lover's channel end. It was because of that person that I was able to see so many more Pre Code films.

"I'll Never Wear Garters" Pre Code Scene

1931 Jean Harlow and Robert Williams It's like any Irene Dunne movie where you ask yourself "is it scripted or is there ad-libbing?"... Either way it's an incredibly cute scene between the two and Jean's soft giggling is just charming.

Miriam Hopkins & Kay Francis Tribute
Просмотров 6 тыс.14 лет назад
I discovered Miriam Hopkins from the movie "The Children's Hour," and through Miriam I discovered Kay. I am so enamored by these two amazing, and extremely under-acknowledged actresses that I made this video for them. I hope they like it, and I hope you do to. (It took me forever to find a song that wouldn't cause problems. But I like this one.)

I just read Robert Williams bio and was shocked to learn that he passed away several weeks after this movie premiered. What a tragedy he died of peritonitis from ruptured appendix. He was so good in this film and I am sure he would have had a bright future.

Never saw this flick despite being a Jean Harlow fan. Need to watch/find it as this scene IS adorable! But WHY was washing BEHIND the ears a constant admonishment back then? Was it bc of the grease men used to slick back their hair? And yet mothers would also scold their young sons to “wash behind your ears!” ...what the heck? That’s an unheard directive today, I don’t get it! WHAT exactly caused this dirty ear problem back then??

It’s so tragic that both of these stars died so young. If only Robert Williams had a little longer and made more films with Jean Harlow, what a fabulous team. They were both sad losses to those who loved them and to cinema audiences

A very interesting picture. Robert Williams was such a fine actor. Such a shame he croaked shortly after making this. Of course poor Harlow is terribly miscast and yet she's always a welcome presence nevertheless. Also a fine performance from gorgeous Loretta Young. Halliwell Hobbes and Walter Catlett are amusing. This is very much a Capra film as early as it may be and unless I'm mistaken Smith's funny scenes with the butler are repeated in a later film. And a great ending too!

Tennesse Williams felt Miriam Hopkins was one of the great American Actresses. She starred in the first public play by Tennessee Williams and it was primarily because of her fondness for Tennessee Williams she agreed to play in his "Battle of Angels".

PIE, This scene proves to me that The Hayes Office Code was as Big A Mistake and Misguided as Prohibition was in the 1920's and to add to that the deaths of two up & coming Stars: Jean Harlow and Robert Williams. You also have add Loretta Young to the mix as well. RCJ/LEO

"Platinum Blonde" is a very underrated film by today's standards, but it is one of Frank Capra's best films.Jean Harlow received most of the publicity from this film since she was fresh from the success of "Hells Angels" the previous year, and she was just twenty years old at the time. Most people talk about the scenes between Harlow and Robert Williams, but it is Loretta Young who actually steals the film from them. Her character of Gallagher is the one the audience is rooting for, her performance is very low key, but essential for the success of the movie. The final scene where Smith finally admits his love for Gallagher is very endearing, and brings the film to an unforgettable climax.Loretta Young received top billing for the film, and was just eighteen years old at the time.

I really love beautiful Lilyan Tashman (1896-1934). 🌹🌹⭐️ Especially with Gloria Swanson in Manhandled (1925) and as “Georgette Lalle” in Ernst Lubitsch’s So This is Paris (1926) and as Peggy Shannon’s mother in The Road to Reno (1931). It’s so sad that Lilyan passed away from abdominal cancer at the young age of 37. 😢 Rest in Eternal Peace Lilyan 🌹🌹.

I never knew anything about Kay Francis until about ten years ago. I watched her in a movie and could not get my eyes off her from that time on. The studios would always dress her in fashionable clothes and jewelery to make her even more desirable. Her height (5'9") was also an attribute to compliment her classy stylish looks. I wish she were alive today; she would leap right over these so called attractive actresses who are a 1 on a scale of 2-100.
