My good teacher thanks
Great video John. I have a small question, with newer trucks that charge first the secondary tank and the primary starting to charge only after secondary has reached 100 psi, is it the same procedure? I have been told it changes to 60 to 100 psi
Yes same procedure, Just remember... Start timing when the first air service tank gauge reaches 50 p.s.i and stop timing when the other service tank gauge reaches 90 p.s.i
Just did my first backing today, and honestly I found this harder to do than the 90 degree blind side, I find it difficult to get passed the center line. I manage to get get it in without crushing cones or crossing the line; But some examinors will fail you immediately for not crossing the center line with the truck and trailer.
I'm in Edmonton Alberta and I will love to take the truck driving test, so i can get my license. Pls how can i connect with u
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks, John!! I needed the refresher. Great video
Glad it was helpful!
when first pulling out make sure trailer tires are by the cones and turn hard left then right, like a S turn... this video is harder than it should be
Yes, This video is in conjunction with the previous M.E.L.T requirements, The offsets have been revamped by the government to make it easier for the students. I preferred the harder offsets personally.
This is great, I appreciate the overview. I go over this weekly during the course, but it's nice to go over on the weekdays too. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Best video ever to explain how to do it in right order, many thanks
You are welcome :)
Quick question, I go for my test tomorrow. I do the 2 minute leak test and it sounds like purging from one end of the truck to the other almost like a “pshhh” “pshhh” sound than it stops at around 90psi. Drops about 30psi total than it levels out. Is this normal? Many mechanics have said it’s normal but I’m not 100% fixated that it is. Please respond as soon as possible
It sounds like purging from the ABS modules. when you turn the engine off and put the key into the on position, Wait for the clicking of the modules to stop, then perform the leak check. that should fix your issue. :)
With the gauge measuring PSI in 25PSI increments, how do you know if you lose 6 psi over two minutes? That must be an awfully small move on the gauge. Is it a case of, "if there is a problem you will know for sure?" Or, is it if you see any noticeable lose of pressure, then you need to go find where the leak is coming form? Or both sometimes? Glad I found your channel.
Yes the psi loss is pretty much no more than the width of the needle on the guage. Because the airbrake system is a sealed system, there should be no unregulated air leaks. Hope this helps you out and thanks for watching 👀 😊
@@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658That's great. Thanks.
You are very welcome...
is that all i need to know to pass the brake test? I am learning about that stuff just now
There is alot more in regards to the actual system, but yes, before challenging the knowledge test it is wise to remember the procedure and pressures as it is also required to be demonstrated on a Provincial road test. And included on a driver's daily pre trip. Hope this helps you out. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
I already pass the air brake now i how much more i need to learn to pass class 3 . And the air brake and the pre trip i will have to know 100 % .Your video is a big help Thank you
thank you for the great step by step explanation
You are very welcome

Thank you.
You're welcome!
Perfect
your Welcome
Very thoroughly and clearly explained about the air brake system. you are great mentor and professional. hat off to you.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Thabk you John!
Your welcome :)
He is the best one instrcter
Thank you for your compliment, Have a great one.
Thank you for teaching me ❤
My pleasure 😊
Is it a requirement on the class 3 road test to check and measure each slack adjuster?
Not in Alberta, It is more of a verbal confirmation. Basically the Examiner needs to know that you know how to verify and check brake adjustment and what to look for. Hope this helps you out...
Wow tons of room and you still need a pull up.
Thanks for your comment...Nothing wrong with a pull up. The student had to use the pull up to position himself for the parallel offset backing maneuver he was performing next.
*Promo sm*
This is same with my truck
You did an amazing job on specifying the components, your explanation was very clean and understandable. Keep the good job
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this, quick easy tip 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man
You're welcome!
Thank you sir
You are welcome :)
Thanks for this video John, doing my practical in about an hour. Question though,......at 2:40 when checking the protection system, you mention having a low air warning come on by 60 psi or above,.............your truck didn't indicate that on the dash or audibly, just the red button popped, am I missing something here?
It did display an audible and visual, the visual indicator is the red circle with the three tabs around it. :)
When you do the 2 minutes air leak do you leave the red and yellow pushed in?
Yes that's correct.
Could you show us how to float gears?
How many classes are there apart from 3 & 2?
Class 3 and 2 are the same procedure. Class 1 procedure includes the trailer.
When you push it in is it on or off?
If your referring to the dash valves (Yellow and Red Buttons) Just remember... Push to go, Pull to whoa!
@@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 thanks, another question: can you point out to me the important visual reference points in backing a tractor trailer?
Wow you're amazing. I may need a job with gfl
Thanks so much for posting this. A class 2 isn't even worth getting anymore. Definitely helpful knowledge for the class 3
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome Video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Good job
Thanks
Practical tomorrow. Instructor recommended your video as a favorable resource. Thanks John, wish me luck!
Best of luck!
Dude, there was an audible air leak thru the whole video😂
I noticed that as well, it was a minor vacuum leak from the heater control actuator. but it would contribute to the maximum air loss we are allowed during the air system leak check. Thanks for your comment and watching :)
THANK YOU JOHN - My company really cheaped out getting me training hours (8) for getting my class 3. On top of that I had a bad trainer 2 times that hates his job. This video has been very helpful.
I Passed!
Sorry to hear about your experience, great job on your passing. Thanks for watching and your comments. :)
Hope he is able to retire without incident. I watched the last one crash and burn last year. Badass truck.
Hi... If you ever teach again, why not use some kind of small coloured stick to pinpoint what you are talking about (demonstrating...). Some of us have never laid eyes on these mechanical parts! Thank you! Therefore, i give you a 9 points on 10! 😊
Thats a great idea. I will defiantly look into that, Thanks for the tip :)
Very well done by the way. You speak slowly enough for everyone to follow you (i think).
Thank you, Glad it helped you :)
Finally... I found someone who sounds 'Canadian' ...
LOL, Born and raised.
Well done, this helps… You are a professional
Awh, Thanks for the compliment. I'm glad you enjoyed this.
you made very simple demo for class 3 air brakes test
Thank you for the comment, much appericiated :)
