In all honesty if you want to defend wrestling then you have to improve your wrestling defense & counters. In training when i see people avoiding wrestling, i tell them "grapple back". Which this video mentions.
There's a various problem, the wrestler sometimes also be able to strike even better than some fighter with a strike background, you can see islam vs DP 😂😂. I think the only solution to beat any fighter with wrestling background is becoming a "better wrestler". In the ufc, you can see especially the dages gangs, they also have a very good strike thats why they are very dominant
I don't think theres a better example of counter wrestling than Gustaffason vs Jones 1
Guys we break the code...we got them...😂😂😂
fantastic breakdown people really don't understand that half of takedown defence in mma is actually ring craft or to put more simply just understanding where you are in the ring/cage a great example of that would be Sean o Malley against aljo.
Other thing worth mentioning is to keep the wrestler on the backfoot. When the wrestler is moving forward shooting for the legs is easy and it becomes even easier to complete the takedown if you are moving backwards because you are going in the same direction as their momentum but if the wrestler is moving backwards not only they have to change momentum, they also have to clash against your forward momentum and defending and even countering a takedown becomes much easier. This is why islam struggled so much against Volk in their first fight. High volume striking also makes it hard for the wrestler to pressure you.
Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this informative video! Please make a video on breaking down methods to countering pressure wrestlers in MMA when they get the fight to the ground or against the cage 🙏🏾
I’ll definitely put out some content on fence wrestling and escapes from bottom in the future. I really appreciate the support and thank you for the content ideas!
@@martialbreakdowns appreciate the response! You earned a new subscriber, I look forward to checking out future content on this channel!
1. forward pressure and defensive confidence 🤣🤣🤣. what a joke. i’d double leg takedown any idiot who comes at me and doesn’t know how to sprawl.
Fantastic breakdown. More
Glad you liked it!
As a wrestler i dont like you 😂
Entirely fair 😂
didn’t watch the video. just came to comment that as a former city champ, BJJ can’t to shit against a wrestler UNTIL they’re on the ground. and a striker can ONLY win with a lucky puncher’s chance KO like Black beast vs Blaydes
All props to Sapo but I heard Ben was trying to gas him out so he kept trying TD’s that weren’t fully committed. Sapo with his great Judo still defended very well. And it seemed Judoka (though I’ve only seen Ben fight a few of them) gave Ben the hardest time in his career. But then Sapo may have faked the effects of the eye poke because he finally was tired/ tiring and Ben was relentless
Entirely possible, but another reason he seems to be diving is Ben didn’t really set up his shots with striking at all. Ben is an animal though, his finishing ability is crazy once he gets a leg
Like, commented, and subscribed!
Appreciate the support! 🙏🏼
The only way to beat wrestling is to be a better wrestler or hope the great wrestler is out of their prime when you fight them.
You can definitely beat a better wrestler, even in their prime. The problem is a lot of people have the skills to do it, they just don’t strategize around them or stick to the strategy once the heat gets turned up!
As a wrestler, and BJJ practitioner I second this. Only a better wrestler beats another wrestler at wrestling. many opponents have tried the counter wrestle both khabib and Islam, by trying to hit the switch when caught in a single leg and just ended up in a far worse position.
At wrestling, of course. But MMA is much more than wrestling technique and there are so many things you can do to disrupt wrestling techniques!
Bro most ufc champs are literally strikers there’s days 🤣
@@hotelmoscow8665 I mean the pound for pound guy Islam can do both but is also probably the best grappler in the UFC to date, and typically champions who have a strong grappling foundation hold on to their titles for longer.
Make a video similar to this for striking instead of Either covering effective style Or how to break down styles of fighter using real life examples
I definitely plan to cover striking in the future. Particularly the interplay between striking and effective takedown entries!
the issue is it's always a lot easier said than done. i started wrestling around 3 or so years ago as a junior in high school and had already been doing BJJ and Muay Thai before, and you just realize there's such a skill gap even now between me and guys who are my age or even younger but who have been doing it since they could crawl. It's just something else entirely because they grab ahold of you and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it, especially if they also have good submission defense
that's how you'd feel against an incredible striker as well, or even an incredible BJJ. It really just depends on how much better you are at your skillset than they are at theirs.
The wall equalizes a lot of wrestling imo if it was more a pit like in karate combat it’d be a lot more favorable to wrestlers
GSP, Leon Edwards have out wrestled those types.. You’re what he explained, defeated mindset
Bro most ufc champs are literally strikers there’s days 🤣
@@foreverlikethestarssActually many mma wrestlers use the fence to their advantage
🦾
Thank you! 🙏🏼
so basically learn how to wrestle
so basically watch the video
@@EliotScafe I did
@@Pablinshky1 so whats wrong? Did you hit your head right before watching? Or are your critical thinking skills really as developed as a toddler? Maybe you should bump that noggin again, might make those neurons start firing correctly.
@@Pablinshky1learn to wrestle, watch the video, or both?
Or get really, really good at BJJ. Pretty much the only way to not get wrestlefucked is to be a good grappler.
Agree but most the reason because guy don’t have high grappling iQ. I’m stickley Bjj and wrestling and come judo so I have a deeper understanding or positional concepts and bag of ideas. I been put on the cage tried to get taken down. It’s easy to turn your opponent and counter to make the cage work right back for you.
🙏🏼
This is great thank you 🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Came here after Khabib Coach said Cain Velasquez style
does this mostly boil down to "swallow your pride and hit where they're weak. If you hit where they're strong it wastes energy and is therefore a blunder"
You should always use your strengths against an opponent’s weaknesses. Thats what proper technique most importantly does 👊🏼
Awesome, thanks.
Great explanation of an important concept. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great breakdown!!
Hey just asking can u break down Austin desanto style of wrestling
Great breakdown. Can you make an updateed version since Makhachev has now fought Poirier and showed some new info about his wrestling?
I’m actually working on a video right where I’ll cover some of the exchanges in Makhachev vs. Poirier. Its a bigger video though, so taking a bit longer than expected
💯🔥
“Grip on Taylor’s butt”? You mean the deepest oil check I’ve ever seen?
Nice!!! Thank you!!!
You missed the transition from the oil check to the junk yank after that. It’s the mike machiavello special.
Straight for the ol twist. Man is a menace
this channel is criminally underrated. i wishing you the success that is due!
Thank you I really appreciate that!
Blatant ass oil check. Butt drag is one thing but this just disgraceful.
Agreed. Definitely something more refs need to look out for because it happens a lot. Amazing for it to not get called out in such a high profile match
Oslam makhachev will slam this u.s wrestlers in place
I’m a huge Makhachev fan but his chances of beating an Olympic Wrestler at wrestling are about as good as McGregor’s chances were of beating Floyd Mayweather
Idk if i can keep defending this sport man
Nothing gayer than wrestling. You’re on top of another dude more than your wife
Only gay if you make eye contact.
Nothing i hated more theb getting oul checked
Definitely up there with people who bite or twist fingers when they’re losing. Oil checking unfortunately seems to happen a lot more frequently and get called out way less often
@@martialbreakdowns in all honesty rather be oil checked then have fingers twist or bit but agree it definitely needs to be called out
Nasty, immediate L right there for me
GAYY!!!
Ha! 😅
Smell It!
This dude smells his fingers in his victory dance. Truly obscene stuff…
There’s a couple videos of Brooks blatantly doing this. Not that he is the only one by any means but to do that in such a high profile match against a legend like Taylor 🤦🏻♂️
@@martialbreakdowns And believe me, I understand the oil check. But to disrespect them with the finger whiff? Come on, man.
I missed the finger sniff I couldn’t see anything from the angle of the video I watched
That has to be against the rules. No shot someones just got their fingers IN someone and they are rewarding that.
You’d think but nahh, they have the ball and chain which used to screw me whenever I would try and escape from bottom. All perfectly legal just dirty wrestling 🤷♂️
@@SirPokemonX just casual SA amongst competitors.
Gripping the opponent’s butt is legal. Oil checking is illegal. Unfortunately a lot of times refs aren’t looking for that. The ball and chain the other commenter mentioned is a legal technique where you grip the opponent’s wrist through their legs. No reason that should be made illegal anymore than a high crotch power lift finish
@@martialbreakdowns yeah I think just part of the sport. I would typically run into people pulling up into my balls with the ball and chain, and using the back of their thumb to go up my crack and it would make me jump up and reset back to my knees 😂 man the good ol days. Wish they had wrestling gyms for adults that want to be recreational. BJJ with wrestling during open mats is all I have nowadays
@@SirPokemonX you are reminiscing about all the wrong parts of that sport bro wtf 😂
😂😂😂 WOW
Hahaha
Yeah, grabing a hip was also done last year which was somewhat questionable. Starting to use internal organs to leverage position🤔
Also noticed he grabbed a handful of something else moments later. Definitely something refs need to keep a closer eye out for
It’s techniques like this that make me glad I chose Judo over wrestling ruclips.net/video/RT92-hyULco/видео.htmlsi=EhZ1Bmfk1hVEds2R!
I missed this one 😂😂
Penetration hand??? He put his whole hand in there?
