    In all honesty if you want to defend wrestling then you have to improve your wrestling defense & counters. In training when i see people avoiding wrestling, i tell them "grapple back". Which this video mentions.

    There's a various problem, the wrestler sometimes also be able to strike even better than some fighter with a strike background, you can see islam vs DP 😂😂. I think the only solution to beat any fighter with wrestling background is becoming a "better wrestler". In the ufc, you can see especially the dages gangs, they also have a very good strike thats why they are very dominant

    fantastic breakdown people really don't understand that half of takedown defence in mma is actually ring craft or to put more simply just understanding where you are in the ring/cage a great example of that would be Sean o Malley against aljo.

  • @Eri587
    @Eri587 18 часов назад

    Other thing worth mentioning is to keep the wrestler on the backfoot. When the wrestler is moving forward shooting for the legs is easy and it becomes even easier to complete the takedown if you are moving backwards because you are going in the same direction as their momentum but if the wrestler is moving backwards not only they have to change momentum, they also have to clash against your forward momentum and defending and even countering a takedown becomes much easier. This is why islam struggled so much against Volk in their first fight. High volume striking also makes it hard for the wrestler to pressure you.

    All props to Sapo but I heard Ben was trying to gas him out so he kept trying TD’s that weren’t fully committed. Sapo with his great Judo still defended very well. And it seemed Judoka (though I’ve only seen Ben fight a few of them) gave Ben the hardest time in his career. But then Sapo may have faked the effects of the eye poke because he finally was tired/ tiring and Ben was relentless

      Entirely possible, but another reason he seems to be diving is Ben didn’t really set up his shots with striking at all. Ben is an animal though, his finishing ability is crazy once he gets a leg

      @martialbreakdowns 2 дня назад

      You can definitely beat a better wrestler, even in their prime. The problem is a lot of people have the skills to do it, they just don’t strategize around them or stick to the strategy once the heat gets turned up!

    • @vicefitness1157
      @vicefitness1157 2 дня назад

      As a wrestler, and BJJ practitioner I second this. Only a better wrestler beats another wrestler at wrestling. many opponents have tried the counter wrestle both khabib and Islam, by trying to hit the switch when caught in a single leg and just ended up in a far worse position.

    the issue is it's always a lot easier said than done. i started wrestling around 3 or so years ago as a junior in high school and had already been doing BJJ and Muay Thai before, and you just realize there's such a skill gap even now between me and guys who are my age or even younger but who have been doing it since they could crawl. It's just something else entirely because they grab ahold of you and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it, especially if they also have good submission defense

    • @IDontReadReplies42069
      @IDontReadReplies42069 2 дня назад

      that's how you'd feel against an incredible striker as well, or even an incredible BJJ. It really just depends on how much better you are at your skillset than they are at theirs.
