King's X smash!
Best band ever!
this is fun! just got recommended this after watching antrax's drummer do a Blink song on Drumeo so this is gonna gain some more traction i think!
Whoop! Thank you very much, I’m glad you dug it! 😄
Do better bro

Just put a topper on it if it keeps happening
I learned my lesson 🤣
For real
😁 that is such a cool video idea!
Thank you! It was a blast to film 😄
Great band and they deliver live!
I just saw them in June and they were incredible!
I agree that King's X is a very underrated band. Jerry is a unique drummer and that's one of the reasons why I love this band. When you watch him, his playing style is even different from anyone else. It's so fascinating to watch him.
Completely agree! Live, he’s just so dynamic and locked in. A true artist!
Ian paice...
Ian Paice is an excellent drummer! Jerry is my favorite though 🤘😄🤘
@DruMarshallDrums more than just excellent brilliant been playing since he was 15 now 75 ....
I’ve seen them over 30 times. Brilliant band and awesome drummer. Jerrrrrry!!!
Wow that’s awesome!! I think I’ve seen them 6? Wish I could have seen them in the 80’s!
First time yet somehow you know his signature sound?
It’s my first time hearing this song, I’m a big fan! Full video is on my channel 🤘🤠🤘
🔥🔥🔥

If you can’t bounce, you ain’t a drummer!
😂😂😂
My cymbal hates me 🤣
yo just get a clamp an your cymbal and stop hitting it so hard
I got a too excited 🤣
I am commenting.
I liked the part where you hit the splash cumbal.
I am responding.
came for the blink-182, stayed for the drums. I'M voting you do every blink song you havent heard !! lol
Haha I’ll do my best to complete the assignment! 😆🫡
Hi hats sound flat tho … his are brilliant haha. Small detail. But I designed my drums after his back in 2005 when they were still legit
You’re right! I also need some big Zildjian A customs instead of the Zildjian Ks that I have. One day haha
Love the zildjians
Solid takes, very impressive! Do more of these 🍻
Thank you! Shall do 🥁😄
cool video! the Skiba-era had some great songs. California DELUXE and NINE are great albums in my opinion.
Fully agree! It only took me years to find out haha
California album is actually AMAZING
I wish I knew that sooner! It’s killer!
Holy crap your underrated
Dude thank you! Means a lot 😄
Blink 182 and Alkaline Trio were two of my favorite bands when I was 16 and that was the first time I heard anything from Blink with Matt Skiba on it.
Skiba rules this song. He’s got a great range!
16 year old you had terrible taste. O'Doyle rules.
@@andrewgilman8835 Says the stanch defender of the band "Owl City"
@@DruMarshallDrums He wrote the line "I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you, plugged in and ready to fall" and would yell a lot - his range in inconsequential

This is my favorite video you’ve made!! More of this!!!!🎉
Aye aye! 🫡 🥁😄
"Dude you'll never guess what Travis is playing on this." -Me
Haha you were correct!
Blink-18dru!
I’ll take it! 😆
This is amazing! I met Jerry back at Southwest Missouri State University. He and I spent time in my garage playing on my kit. Back then they were called The Edge. You could already tell they were going to make it. Jerry was so freakin' humble, and kept complimenting my playing. At that time I was totally into Bozzio, and he was more mainline. But I couldn't help but think how "appropriate" his playing was for each song. I have to tell you, only now do I realize they went on to be King's X. It just blows my mind!
I wish I could have seen The Edge back then! So cool you knew him before the band blew up. It’s gotta be a trip to see someone you knew back then years later on a big stage. Thanks for the comment and all the best to you! 🥁
Quite often, in a lot of those quads (RLKK RLKK), he alternates like (RLKK LRKK RLKK LRKK). He does the same with swiss triplets, normally a 6 note pattern of RLRLKK, he'll alternate with LRLRKK. And my favorite thing he does is a four note triplet bomb kind of thing like in the end of "Don't Care" on Dogman. Both hands at the same time, sometimes locked together, sometimes flams, but basically HKHK where H means hands. It will sound like "trip pull it one". Snare Kick Toms Kick, Toms Kick Toms Kick. All of his licks and chops are like sentences and phrases to him, so can just chain them together in any combination and just flow. Also, check Jerry out on the Galactic Cowboys' "Let It Go" album. In King's X he plays a lot of different ways with different feels, but most of the time he has a Bonham kind of laid back, deep pocket groove. Older songs had a bit more of a pushed, sitting on the edge of your seat, Stewart Copeland kind of feel and that's what's all over the Galactic Cowboys album. Leaning forward, pushing the band without it feeling rushed, its just kinda on the edge, leaning forward. SERIOUSLY underrated drummer. An absolute monster.
Very well said! I didn’t know Jerry played with Galactic Cowboys, that’s awesome! Gonna tune in tonight 😎
@DruMarshallDrums He just played drums on the album. Galactic Cowboys drummer Alan Doss was still involved with production, he just didn't play drums on it. Killer drum stuff all over it, but "Bucket of Chicken" is chock full of great nuggets ;)
Wow, Dru, you and I could sit & talk for HOURS, the 1st time we met. The details you notice and deeply appreciate & geek out on are exactly the same as mine, including the Fool You air drumming. I'll just bet you're a fan of Gil Moore as well? And Picaro? :)
@@user-yz3et4lq9y a fellow Jerry fan! Thanks for the kind words, I’m happy to hear that you can relate. I actually am unfamiliar with Gil Moore, so thanks for giving me some new drumming to check out. And Picaro is among the best! Cheers dude!
Wrong. It would be me. Never heard of me? Awsome. Just the way I like it. P.S. This guy is a douchebag.
Its called a shuffle or swung
You’re right!
Most people call it swinging, but bouncy is a contender
yeah ill substitute those words for eachother sometimes. although imo Bounce comes more from where tbr kick drum hits in the pocket
Fair point! I almost called it swung but bouncy felt right to me haha
Absolutelly! Jerry Gaskill is an oustanding drummer in the freaking pocket like an atomic clock!!!! The Phil Rudd of AC/DC!! Have seen them multiple times and they are the most humble, fun, outstanding people to greet and meet!! Not once they denied a picture or talking to me ever even tired from a show!!!! My beloved "pet" band forever!!!!
@@dominiquez5643 best band ever!! I learned so much from Jerry. And after years and years of drumming, I’m finally singing background vocals in a band too. He’s a huge inspiration!
That really was insane.
He’s the GOAT!
Great vid 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
100 agree! JERRY is also the most groovin rockdrummer of alltime ;) KingsX4ever
Thank you for watching! KingsX4infinity! 🤘😄🤘
Jerry! Jerry! Jerry !
The Jerry chants at shows are the best!
I so agree! JERRY IS OUT OF THIS WORLD❤
Out of this universe! 🤘😄🤘
Gaskill can bring the heaviness and the funk! Fantastic drummer. Six Broken Soldiers is one of my favorite KX songs. From what I've read and seen, a total gentleman too.
I’ve heard the same about Jerry. Apparently he’s a super great person. It’s funny you mention “Six Broken Soldiers” - someone right by me was screaming that in between every song. “PLAY SIX BROKEN SOLDIERS!” 🤣
As a drummer myself, I agree with your assessment. Ive thought about Jerry's contribution to the King's X sound over the years. His vocals are a huge part as well. One thing NO ONE focuses on is his lyrics and songwriting. He's a genius on both accounts, putting him in a league of his own. Phil Collins and Neil Peart cant write lyrics like Jerry. I believe that's an underappreciated element of those first 4 albums. It added a mystery and sophistication that dUg and Ty couldn't bring in their own. What I find interesting about his drumming is the influence of Ty and dUg's drum machines. Listening to the demos, the drum parts were written by a nondrummer, so they have a rhythmic quirk to them and Jerry played them pretty note for note faithful. So, the drumming in King's X is kinda three people. Jerry is a machine and plays more solid live than anyone Ive ever seen. He's the full package and irreplaceable!
Very well said and I couldn’t agree more! I should have mentioned his singing + lyrics because that alone is something that separates him even more from other drummers. And good point about the drum machines - sometimes when a drum part is written by a non drummer it really adds a unique flavor because the drum part isn’t part of the same patterns that we’re accustomed to playing. Thanks for watching and for the commentary!
Your favorite band and mine, too. Thanks for sharing the love!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
One of the most Underated drummer's, with Ton's of Groove...
Completely agree!! Jerry rules!
That took u years?? Come on man...i can hear straight alt doubles inside of a triplet feel right away. Btw...as far pure feel and groove, the GOAT will always be Bonham... and i say this as a huge Vinnie and Gadd fan
Thanks for watching!
I've been a King's X fan since 88'..ive seen and met them many times, always great guys,i told Jerry i practice his stuff a lot,it seems simple but his meter ,tastey fills and and style sets him apart,,,he said,i wish i practed more, which shows to me the way he plays is built in him,, incredible band that should have been much bigger! good video,Thanks!!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! Someone recently described Jerry as “a very clever” drummer and I thought that was perfect. It’s simple at first but the complexity is just under the surface!
@@DruMarshallDrums clever is the perfect word for Mr. G!! 👍
One of the most underrated bands of all time.
Fully agree!
