What a musical gem !!!
The cocaine years!!
You could really hear the degradation of Steve's vocal range at this time. He is still one of my top 2 favorite vocalists in all of rock and roll!!
Fantastic! Besides Steve it’s RICH that has and always will define the core sound of Kansas; he adds that “thing” that there are no words for. It’s a gift from God that Rich so eloquently and consistently displays. Thanks for posting; I really enjoyed it!
Obviously they weren’t using pitch correction!!
Steve sounds like garbage. Such a sad thing for such a onetime great singer😔
Simply outstanding!
*""RICHARD WILLIAMS HADBEEN SMOKING FORYEARS""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
My favorite band, and my favorite song by this band! I was fortunate to see them on the Audio Visions tour in New Haven, and so heard them perform this live. Musically and lyrically, I think it's the best Kansas song of all, which is really saying a lot!
Saw him with original lineup for the Audio-Visions tour. Had I waited one tour to see them would have missed that original lineup from their first album. Saw the Vinyl Confessions tour after that also and this lineup many years later. Rich and Phil are the only original members left.
I never really caught this before but at around 6:15, it sounds like Walsh fudges the lyric. What he sings is not what's written. It should be: "For in the promise is a victory. To see the way that everything should be." Given Walsh's reservations about Livgren's lyrics being too specific (to Christianity) at the time, I wonder if he does this on purpose or if it's a simple mistake.
Epic stud!
Why do people find it necessary to compare rock icons? I love them all! Enjoy Kansas for being Kansas, and Lennon for who he was and what he stood for. They all had amazing talent. And Steve has said he was greatly influenced by the Beatles, after seeing them on the Ed Sullivan Show. Some of the other Kansas members have voiced similar feelings. You can learn a lot by watching the Kansas documentary, Miracles Out of Nowhere.
Ask any non Kansas fan about what they think about Walsh's vocal performance on this recording and they will probably tell you that he has powerfull vibrato and wide range. All these people coming out here to rank on his state in this video are just rude. Dude had the balls to play a great show wheather his voice was shot or not in front of thousands of people. He still managed to give a great show. Long live Kansas!
Yngvie? No. Eddie? No. Vai? No. RW doesn't have to be any of them. He is his own man and musician, elemental, yet monumental. Those who take the time to listen know what he has masterfully created as a signature style and sound. No matter who has come and gone from Kansas, the foundation remains solid and strong. Rich's endurance speaks for itself. Replace him? With who? He has carved a niche un-fillable by anyone else.
This was great!! A real treat for a long time KANSASFAN.
What's wrong with that guy voice ?
Beautiful sound
Per: www.legacycom Robby Steinhardt, violinist and co-lead singer for the classic rock band Kansas, passed away July 17th, 2021 in Tampa, Florida of complications of acute pancreatitis. He was 71 years OLD... Between 1976 and 1987 Kansas had fourteen records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Dust In The Wind" peaked at #6 {for 2 weeks} in April of 1978... "Dust In The Wind" also reached #6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... They just missed having a second Top 10 record when their "Carry On Wayward Son" peaked at #11 {for 2 weeks} in March of 1977... May Mr. Steinhardt R.I.P. Note: "Play The Game Tonight" peaked at #17 {for 3 weeks} in June of 1982...
RIP ROBBY STEINHARDT !!
The moment is a masterpiece ❤️
カンサス最高✨❤️✨ 一生聴く〰︎👍👍👍👍👍
Rich is a great guitarist. The more I hear him, the more I am impressed. Hearing his guitar work out front, as this video illustrates, makes me respect his playing even more. He is a pro's pro. A great musical mind.
🙌🏻
A VERY NICE SHITTY VIDEO
This is really cool!!
That was sweet!
❤
I love their sound!! You can hear how hard it must have been to sing those high notes totally live. I don't think they were using any pitch correction. Everybody ages and voices are the most difficult instrument to preserve. Great band that doesn't deserve all these armchair expert musicians' insulting opinions.
Absofuckinglutely in agreement with you here, Little Lamb. I am still waiting for these critics to record themselves singing half as well as Steve has at any musical incarnation of his 40+ years in the industry! He deserves respect, admiration & our gratitude for all he has brought into our lives. As a former singer/songwriter/musician who can no longer record, write or play her instruments nor hit her high notes due to Cancer, MS & the accompanying seizures; Steve is a musical lifesaver as I wait to depart this Earth with only music as my pain remedy!
@BrianBoyce Brian thank you so much for posting this, I have about worn this concert out and still watching and loving it! My favorite concert by Kansas 😁 #SteveWalshForever

Kansas was never really the same after Steve Walsh's first departure. When Kansas reformed with Walsh in 1985, it was not the same since Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope also quit as they had become Christians, and so their time in Kansas post-1984 was limited to say the least.
couldn't agree more. kansas certainly had their glory days with that lineup. wish we could get more these days.
Who's the other drummer?
Steve Walsh messed up on drugs...
Can you sing & perform as well as Steve does here? If not; your negative critique is not needed. Steve sounds great here. I love all these "professional" critics here & perfect characters. If you have never been recorded before or sung in front of tens of thousands of fans; perhaps you should focus on your own shortcomings. I love Steve Walsh here & in every incarnation & will support him until I take my last breath. He is a magical force of nature. I am indebted to him & those few other incredible singer/songwriter/musicians who provide musical accompaniment as my Cancers, Heart Disease & MS pain deny me sleep. This bs ranking on Steve Walsh is banal, ignorant & just plain cruel. I come to RUclips to engulf myself in the genius of my favorite blues/rock male voice of my lifetime. This is the only respite from my never ending, unbearable end of life pain. If you want to denigrate Steve; kindly do it elsewhere!
@@bethleinicke8108 wow, you're totally a Steve's fan. I've born after the 2000 and I'm from Europe so I struggle a bit finding info from Kansas or streets. Do you know the reason for the Streets disbanding?, as far as I know they didn't do a tour for their second album. I think their albums are really underrated, specially their "1st" album, I don't know if their label didn't support them properly. PD: I'm becoming a Steve's fan too.
Walsh has so much energy I get tired just watching him!
A band totaly ahead of its time
damn this song takes me to jr high!! played the hell out of this album.
Very cool to see this ! Thanks ....
OCTOBER 6 TOPEKA KANSAS,ONE MORE TIME RICH,KICK IT,I'LL BE THERE TO WITNESS YOUR GENIUS-GENIUS
Who else agrees with me that Rich should have his own signature PRS guitar?
when you can duel with KERRY LIVGREN YOU'RE IN THE GROOVE,LISTEN TO ALL OF HIS MUSIC BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO CRITICIZE,he is amazing WHATS ON MY MIND IS PHENOMENAL
A classic and beautiful time for Kansas!!! Freaks of Nature!!! Love it!
thanks Robbie....i probably didn't spell. but thanks..,....more than you know..,...thanks.
Simply the most progressive band ever. More progressive than Yes or Emerson, Lake and Palmer. 8 or 10 different parts in one song that fit together like a glove. Astounding !
What a huge wall of sound Rich Williams creates! I love this focus on his guitar sound, thanks Brian Boyce for this awesome video! One of the greatest living guitarists, for sure
Musical genius. Steve Walsh has no peer.
None whatsoever! None before him and none after.
Rhythm Guitarists? Please!
I've been playing shows for the last three months. With an eye patch. With my rock band 4X. It gives me a new profound respect for Rich Williams. Rich plays very lush music. And complicated very involved arrangements. With that confounded thing wrapped around, his eyes and head. Not easy. Try it sometime, as an experiment. It will test everything you think you know about music. Rich Williams is my favorite rhythm player, of all time. And a wonderful man. Your guitar playing, is so humanistic, so dear to my musical heart. Rich. You use, your whole soul. Like a superbly crafted instrument. Long live the greatest American band. Kansas. Fan for life.
Rich Williams, is the single deadliest rhythm guitar player in the world. Check out the syncopated patterns, he comes up with, for all those great Kansas albums. His soloing. Is chock full of soul. Rich is also the king of the whistler note. I learned all about the ultra harmonic, from his mighty wall of meat position in the greatest band ever. Kansas. My favorite guitarist, and the nicest man, to have on your team. Rich Williams.
I immediately teared up right when Steve began singing. Such a beautiful melody and Steve's voice. Ugh, such a pure band.
BrainPolice5 Amen.
DEFinitely!!
Walsh's outfit?
I totally love it!!
Big time,.. big time.....
