#stayathomemom #homeschoolmom #homeschool It's a sad state of things when the choice of raising your own children is seen as a privilege, rather than a right for every woman. Just discovered your channel and I’m excited to watch more of your videos! I’m planning my daughter’s JK year (I’m also in Canada!) and wondering if you have any advice/plans for French? Thanks so much :)

    • @NivesScott
      @NivesScott 4 дня назад

      Thank you for such a sweet comment! Where abouts are you? So French wise, I’ve been lazy 😅 but I grew up in French and have done all my schooling in French so my plan is to stop being lazy and do full immersion in French a few days a week. On a side note, I’ve learned French that way at 8 when I arrived in Canada and a year later I had zero accent. Now I understand it would be trickier if it was a foreign language to me, in that case I think I’d probably rely on exposing them to a fluent speaker (I’d also be fine with some screen time in French personally) in addition to the lessons I’d do with them. Sorry for the long response, it’s an important question!

    My daughter is 3.5 and we are moving towards some home preschooling. We just completed reading the first 2 books in the little house series. That gave her an introduction to the concept of school and learning. That lead us to some role playing and pretending w dolls. We have a slate that i plan to give her for more props and i hunting for a tin pail for lunch. This may sound silly but i want to make learning just as fun as playing so its not like a job or chore for either of us. Hopefully i can get more structure as we move towards winter. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.❤

    Careful home training free from useless waste, is the foundation of homeschooling. You made the right choice. Mainstream education is only interested in producing employees. No room for creativity and sifting out occurs if a youngster has special needs. Home schooling can resolve the problems of literacy and numeracy.. Private schooling is based on fee paying academic achievements and micromanagement. and public schooling is for those who can't afford private schools. Both are only good at Institutionalisation.

My almost 7yo daughter despises our Teacher Your Child lessons- I am pivoting with more Charlotte Mason style, using colors and stickers and chopping the lessons in half. Oof we’ve all been there when it comes to lacking patience and I spoke from my personal experience. 😅 Yes the book definitely doesn’t work for everyone, so I can totally see the resistance in the sit down and power through kind of method for some children.i would have 100% ditched the book if it meant an easier time teaching her in a less formal way. This is very true and wise. Even in the country one has to be intentional about living life in a "disconnected" way and finding the joy of being present. I think comparison is what steals most people's joy and ability to just live and enjoy life as it is.

    I think in the past we lived with extended family much more. My grandparents lived with us when I was a kid for example (I'm 35). This gave balance to mothers. My parents help watch our son two days and we have a nanny at the house three days. I work from home as well but my job is pretty flexible. I don't start until after 930 and am typically finished with my work by 430. I stop up for lunch with my son and the nanny (who's awesome). I agree that being a mother has boosted my creativity and given me meaning that I could not conceive of prior. I feel blessed to have the balance I have at the moment. I'm curious what % of your household income you brought in. I'm bringing in just under half but we also get insurance through my job and max out or retirement and HSA contributions through my job. We could make it on my husband's income if we didn't have our high maintenance dogs (2 king Charles cavalier spaniels) and really lowered retirement contributions and health savings account contributions

    • @NivesScott

      First of, thank you for sharing such a thoughtful response! Absolutely regarding the extended family! Before we came to Canada my grandma was my caregiver when my mom returned to work, and as she got a job out of town, it meant I was on my grandparents farm 5 days a week and only saw my parents on weekends. and my aunts and uncles who were much younger than my mom also lived under her roof so i was well taken care of. That said i still missed my mom dearly and cried myself to sleep nearly every night. So in terms of finances, i was in a very similar situation to you. I brought in just under half, and health insurance (but I’m Canadian so a lot is public), was also under me as my husband is self employed, and a pension fund so i did forgo of a significant amount and benefits, zero doubt about that! But we are making it work, and i honestly couldn’t picture our life without this sacrifice, a life of not homeschooling my kids. I love that you have balance of family & work life, it’s so important, sounds like the dogs are more work than kids 😅!

    Just had a conversation with my sister who has a 6 months baby girl and she got very defensive when I talk to her about staying at home and maybe not going back to work in September ( in Europe we get a lot of time to spend with babies after birth.) I think she is scared of asking her partner for financial support or maybe she knows she won’t get it. They live under the same root but are not married ( probably not sharing bank accounts or anything) I wish more men would understand how important it’s for mothers to be at home during newborn and toddler times. Thanks for sharing this

      My heart goes out to the mothers who wish to stay at home with their babies but feel that they can’t, or they are unable to. It’s such a common longing that we often push aside and convince ourselves is not the way to go, or is an impossibility. Raising the next generation is THE most important work in my opinion, and unless both people in the couple think of it that way, leaving the work force to stay at home would be nearly impossible.

    You're so inspiring! It's refreshing to hear how beautiful and important staying home with our kids is vs. the boss girl theme we're so used to hearing!

    Thank you for sharing - it's hard for women these days, you really are 'expected' to work full time, and mother, and cook and clean, and be a good wife... Exhausting.

      Very true! I think it’s no wonder so many women often feel depleted, exhausted, torn left and right, and like a shell of a woman, doing many full time jobs at once.

      Hello! Inspired stranger here! I’m an architect and trying to plan my future, thinking about how I’d make having a family work. Becoming an architect is such a huge life achievement, do you ever miss it? How were you able to make the transition to SAHM? :-)

      @@sandrakolacz3654 hubby and I met at university so we both were architects which helps. We started our own practice shortly after registration and getting married so my transition from full time work to SAHM was slow. If you want to chat further my husband has a channel @heisesays and you can contact me through that

      @@sandrakolacz3654 hubby and I met at uni and is also an architect so that makes it much easier for us and it means I can jump in and help him if he is overloaded with work. The identity struggle to be ok with being a mum has been a lot and taken me a long time to adjust as becoming an architect is a very consuming pursuit. The more kids we have had the easier it has been. Having 3 kids was the hardest to balance but once #4 came along I gave up and started homeschooling 🤣 our kids are the best part of life and an investment in our future.

    I loved listening to your story. So beautiful how God reached you in this season of life. As a former elementary teacher I can relate to feeling like there is no other way. But when I had my baby girl I just couldn't go back. And I believe it is the best decision we have made as parents. Thank you so much for sharing your story. 🙏☺️
