I'm living in Hong Kong so my videos are currently about my experiences here. This is kind of just my space to talk about whatever I want and to be a place for future me to browse.
I make video essays and reviews of my favourite books and films.
Looking for a read? I'd recommend:
Red Rising by Pierce Brown, The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin to start you off.
If you're at it you may as well go and watch Altered Carbon, Avatar the Last Air Bender, and although you have probably seen it the Lord of The Rings. Actually, just watch that last one on repeat.

A conversation about homesickness in Hong Kong
Hey! It has been a little while! Today I wanted to talk about something a little bit different. While most of the videos are me on adventures, in this video I wanted to try and tackle some of the tougher things about living abroad. This video is about homesickness, how I deal with it and my thoughts on living far away from home.

A quick chill video for today, detailing my trip to Macau. It's been a little while! No commentary in this video - more of a montage than a vlog. Hopefully it gives people some travel ideas for Macao! Credit for music - Chillpeach - These Days : ruclips.net/video/DI1LrJqJnIM/видео.html
I Try Hong Kong Snacks
Просмотров 501Год назад
In this video I taste common Hong Kong drinks and crisps giving my verdict on them. If people find this video entertaining, I will do another where I try more adventurous snacks like Durian and Dragon fruit. I also realise that these snacks are not necessarily from HK but they are popular here.
I Try Learning Cantonese in Hong Kong!
Просмотров 757Год назад
In this video I go out for dinner and try some local delicacies while also taking my first Cantonese lesson. I *attempt* to learn numbers and adjectives. I've had another lesson since this so I'm hopefully slowly improving. Maybe one day I'll be able to make a video in Cantonese (doubtful) but a fun target to set :)

How to write revolution | Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Просмотров 8684 года назад
In the Red Rising trilogy, Pierce Brown throws us into a revolution concerning equality and truth. It is heavily violent but also sentimental as characters struggle to carve a place and identity in the rapidly changing Society. In this video I talk about the distinction between revolution and rebellion and how Brown crafts a Rising addressing the ethical concerns of warfare. Music courtesy of R...

The philosophy of Andross Guile - The Lightbringer by Brent Weeks

How to create a powerful fantasy religion [Brent Weeks Lightbringer series] SPOILERS
Просмотров 2864 года назад
Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series doesn’t avoid asking big questions: Is there a God? Is the system what God intended? How can we have faith when they are absent? This essay focuses primarily on the first four novels, as this is where faith is most poignantly explored, the final entry in the series is discussed later as I argue it takes a different approach to the earlier installments. THIS VIDE...
The feeling is legit and I totally understand that cos I also moved to other countries without knowing anyone there. I’m sure u could meet some new friends and u could enjoy the new place but still being homesick, cos those new friends are so different from your besties. Jus knowing no matter how far u are, your loved one will always be there for u!! True friends are never apart. Maybe in distance but never in heart!
Thanks for the video! How much per day or month for this room?
Hi Toby, I do really feel for you about homesickness, but it's normal when you move away to a country you've never been to before - especially as an expat. Stay positive about everything! ❤ I'm moving to Australia from the UK next summer and I plan to talk to my family every morning on WhatsApp. 🙂
That sounds exciting! Yeah my first time moving countries and I have read that it often takes people a while to adjust to them :) thanks for the comment
It’s so nice to share your feeling. I feel the loneliness of a young ppl who is alone at a no one room after work. Hope you enjoy the beach and hiking here.
Hey mate. Went through EXACTLY the same thing/feelings when i moved to HK from Australia way back in 2006. The first few months are the worst (especially getting use to the crazy heat and humidity.). Once you can get pass Christmas things really get much better. It's a real cultural shock. I wanted to go back home a dozen times in the beginning but got through it and ended up staying in HK for 14 years! Am living back in Australia now but miss HK heaps.
I had not visited Macau for 6 years, it is a lovely place with lot of good food and a slow pace of living.
Woow, Toby has a friend who both good in English and Cantonese. Lovely video, I never try this fortune telling sticks.
Thank you for sharing!
Do you have kitchen for cooking ?
Thank you for this!
Good on you for at least attempting and taking interest in the local language.
Hi please I hope you can help. I got my work visa and I am planning to enter HK next 31 October . I am looking for any option for a temporary rental around Fanling or Sheung shui (new territories) till my 3 months probationary period finish. Please if have any idea or recommendations
You can check some co- living place in Shatin or nearby .
As a crisp connoisseur, I would love to try those truffle crisps!!!🤭
👍🏻 dont care about the tones as they are too difficult for non chinese and do not quite affect understanding. Have fun 😂
Welcome to hk 😂 hope you are not getting frustrated so soon with students here 😂😂
For vegetarian, or even vegan, restaurants, search for Hong Kong temple food.
Very nuce
Very entertaining Toby...we can live vicariously through you as you take us on a food/snack adventure. 🥝🍍🍎🍑
Hello, Treehouse near Times Square is a new vegetarian/ vegan place. Awesome wraps and salad bowls 🥗🥗🥗 I live in causeway bay, as me anything 🤗
Hi Toby it's nice to see that a white (English) person (translation: gwai) is actually attempting to learn Cantonese! 👐🏼 I'm a BBC (British Born Chinese) and many of us don't even want to bother to learn it!
Yeah I've had quite a few people ask me why I want to learn it and the answer I've been giving is that I'm in Hong Kong! It's the local language
@@tobysaundersI agree that you should because Hong Kong is very proud of their language which is why you must know how to speak it! 😝 I know a few gwais (white English people) who are still living in HK and managed to speak Cantonese after years of learning it. To be honest, I don't think you can live in HK without having to learn to speak Cantonese because it's really a must! 😅
👍💪😜
welcome to hk~ a lot of ppl over 80 in hk can also speak Eng well 😃
A younger version of Robert Pattinson!
Lol ving your posts 👍 I worked in Hong Kong from May 1998 until August 1999. Will be back there again in November for 10 days holiday
as a foriegner who lives in hong kong i can give you any guides or help if you want lol
Hope u had fun there
Thank you I did!
Super cool thanks for sharing
Red line on MTR is Tung Chung Line 🙂
Welcome to Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Toby 🙂 Hope you enjoy the city as much as British foreigners do! ❤
Bro, Why are you even there? Leave while u can
A typhoon means the city becomes extremely hot before the typhoon really comes.😂
Great place. Causeway bay
Welcome to HK, algorithm brought me here. Just to say hi lol
welcome 😂🎉
Welcome to Hong Kong and enjoy and have fun with it. Enjoy the food. You may but umbrella on 7-11 or newspapers or home good places.
Thanks for the advice:)
Have fun
I recommend trying Ahimsa Buffet! Also, we usually use Openrice here - it's helpful for sorting by location, cuisine, etc. and you can filter specifically for vegetarian options. If you're looking for a refreshing dessert in Causeway Bay, Shari Shari Kakigori is a popular and delicious shaved ice place!
Thank you I'll take that in mind and go get the ice!!!
the yt algo recommended this vid to me and i'm glad it did! love how this feels like catching up with a friend i haven't heard from in a while. all the best for your adventures in hk! 🍀i'm planning to go there soon and would be cool to hang if you're down ☺
Please enjoy your stay in HK!
Welcome to HK. Enjoy your stay here! It’s an amazing city.
Great to see you in my home town. Now, I moved to UK now and adapt to new life in UK.
Hope you are finding it welcoming :)
There will be ACG2023 on 28/7 to 2/8, anime and game exhibition held annually in wan chai, dont know if you are interested experiencing this kind of event🤣

Hello Toby welcome to Hong Kong! We have different cuisine here so do try that out! Ask us if you get lost and Hongkongers are happy to show you the directions! ❤ Enjoy!
Welcome to Hong Kong😄🙌🏻
interesting to witness your experience as a new teacher in HK from the UK ( I was a teacher in HK for a decade and recently moved to the UK for good)
💪💪😍
welcome to hk! u should def visit the olympic bridge which is near my secondary school (spcs) (I think it's near your hotel actually!)
Fingers crossed mostly for extra holiday in typhoon lol, rarely really hurt as the system shall still ok, but of coz don't go outdoor in signal no 8. Other than TV you can also check weather gov hk for updated info. There's 2 hours buffer in case the warning gone and need to work, bosses always try to show they are mean but in fact everyone knows we can just do what we can. Good luck HK might got highest percentage audience in YT.
Welcome to HK, have a nice stay here 👏🙏
remember to go tsim sha tsui in kowloon, its alot nicer than causeway bay:)
I will! Moving to Kowloon next week :)
@@tobysaundersI like HK Island and Lantau Island more but Kowloon provides cheaper foods and more small shops. Thank for sharing. I love you have plans and hope for move forward. Your video also remind me to keep going .

You should go to mei foo/Hk disney land! From Sunny bay! and welcome to hong kong!!!
