With the upcoming rerelease of the Apollo Justice Trilogy soon upon us, I wanted to go back and re-analyze one of the most infamous plotlines in all of Ace Attorney and discuss why I think it's a lot better executed than most people give it credit for (as well as why I think the whole second trilogy is more cohesive than people give it credit for; a case of retconning done right). 0:00 Intro 1:...

    Actually maybe Armstrong is actually gay I know it was just enthusiasm but he literally says point blank in the case when first interacting with him that Furio Tigre flirted with him... So yeah it's not even that deep in the case it's when you first interact with him but then again maybe he's just doing his French enthusiasm so who knows but I'll believe Rei is the first gay one because you know I don't really like Armstrong

    I don't understand why Strongheart being obvious is a con when it's quite clear he was wrote and designed that way from the get go. Taking at this perspective, I'd argue the character's designed intension was to serve as something akin to a "goal" to reach, having the journey itself to finally nab him and put him down be the payoff.

    • @Kaempfdog
      @Kaempfdog 4 дня назад

      @@DraikRoan red herrings are the problem. It’s fine if Ryunosuke KNEW it was Stronghart and was systematically weeding out branches he’s attached to, it would be as you describe. Which is a similar structure to Kristoph Gavin in 4-4. Who I consider to be the one and only successful killer revealed plot where you know going in who it is, and then you’re asking WHAT DID YOU DO? Over and over as you uncover layers. But during that time you aren’t speculating who else could have done it? And that’s where Stronghart’s weakness appears. Because we fully entertain Judge Jigoku and Kazuma as full blown villains/culprits that’s when it stops working. Not only do YOU think that these people could be full blown culprits but Kazuma hunts Van Zieks and can’t even so much as consider another option when HE’S broken down and all I ever hear is the gavel of Stronghart going “Are we SERIOUSLY still missing the horse-gavel wielding elephant in the room?” Chief Gant has a protection of you genuinely don’t want it to be him because out the gate he’s MAXIMUM endearing in contrast to Lana Skye being an ice queen and Angel Staar being…insert your choice of words here. And you slowly peel back the layers realizing not just how dangerous he is, but how much danger YOU could be in for having info that you find. (In contrast to shoving the best evidence in the killer’s face over and over OUT of court) Stronghart is not lacking as a villain other than being TOO comparable to Gant and not quite reaching the marker, but the case itself is flawed for severely mishandling red herrings like how Case 5-2 mishandled it with Florent L’Belle sitting there and Phineas Filch and Jinxie are fully considered like we didn’t see the opening cutscene.

    15:41 look in my opinion this is by far the worst case in the entire series yes even worse than Big Top, Samurai or Kidnapped I'm actually really surprised it was almost in the top 15 put Let Me explain why I hate this case it's not that the characters are bad although yes that is the case I really in particular hate Wesley and Edllon along with Alita in my opinion just being a worse version of April May and Dahlia Hawthorne but those things are bad but I probably wouldn't consider it the worst... No what puts this at the very bottom is the amount of backtracking you have to do in this case alone like you have to go to nine different locations even though realistically only eight because the garage could have been dropped after the first day in the investigation it's confusing especially when you have to get the powder for Ema Skye like why is it under the top had you probably already checked that's stupid unless you were really paying attention who the hell is going to notice that!? And yes I know Samurai had the same problem but I can at least defend that a little bit because it was the third case in the first game and only the second case where you actually got to investigate I can give it props and I can understand it but Corner has no excuse and for extra salt on the wound it gives you three pages of evidence in the second case and it is so hard in fact when the Apollo Justice collection came out ideal story mode twice just to figure out what I'm even supposed to do during the investigation the trial portion is whatever but that investigation absolutely kills it for me and that's why I consider it worse than my other least favorites it's so long and drawn-out I hate it really the only props I could even give this case is the reintroduction of Ema and the introduction of Klavier Gavin but that's as far as I'm willing to go Completely unnecessary comment yes but I felt like sharing my own opinions

    In defence of Stronghart being obviously based on Gant, this isn't exclusive to him. Obviously, the comparison between Kazuma and Mia was pointed out, but also Van Zieks is clearly based around Edgeworth. The last two cases of TGAA are basically a combination of DL-6 and SL-9 (So Turnabout Goodbyes and Rise from the Ashes) with Van Zieks being the Edgeworth equivalent. 2-4 even references Von Karma in the title.

    Because we got the GAA games as a collection, it felt more like one ten case game than two five case games. And with how interconnected the cases are, and GAA1-5 feeling more like a midpoint in the overarching plot, it feels like these games are best experienced as a whole package anyway.

    As far as his hobo Wright stint being brushed under the rug goes, I wonder/headcanon that the master poker player masterfully playing his aces is just how he looks when we’re not in his head. Half his stumbling is inner thoughts, the other half comes from directly seeing him under fire, and Apollo Justice is the one game where we don’t really get either save for the middle portions of the final case. That said, in terms of Dual Destinies “doing its own thing”, I’d levy that criticism more at Apollo randomly having ties to the space station stuff. Apollo’s changing backstory is another joke, but I can at least reconcile his Khura’in ties with the Apollo we meet in his first game. And yet his connections to the Dual Destinies final cases just do not gel.

    It's stupid how fucked up the Ace Attorney world really is (especially in the Apollo Trilogy). But only when the games remind you of that cuz damn, to me it was kinda hard to understand the plot of AJ and DD cuz the characters always said stuff about the dark age of the law and im like "since when? Why? Show me what is causing the dark age of the law!" And the only way to actually know how bad things are, is to literally stop playing and go back to the previous games. I really, REALLY HATE this stupid rule of the games not having spoilers from the previous games. They don't feel like sequels to each other, they just feel like a cartoon with the "villain of the week" and "the big arc of THIS season". And the only real way to feel like these characters changed is to simply stop playing and look back, constantly to even know WHAT the new game is referencing cuz they sure won't do that for you. The world of Ace Attorney could feel just so much more alive If they didn't forget huge parts of previous games, like literally the initial part of THIS video.

    The fact we can reasonably tie Rodger to this entire dark age of the law plot line via a bit of speculation just makes me even more angry that such a great potential big bad for ace attorney 7 via his ties to the Gramaryes just makes me annoyed that in spirit of justice he’s a one of villain in the second case! Honestly he’d even be a better final boss then Mrs evil queen who’s got the depth of a plastic cup. Hell if they kept him around they could have Rodger could have basically had ties to the every important plot within the AJT. Making him a perfect final boss… but no just have him put behind bars during the second case which takes place on the main land. Honestly the entire part of Stronghart in the final case being too damn obvious is fair. Though in comparison to how you discussed Gant, I personally think Stronghart not playing up any friendly facade works to his benefit. Like you know damn well from the moment you meet him he's going to be the ultimate big bad. But the real question is going to be HOW he fits into the grand scheme of things, WHY he will do what he does, and WHAT you need to ultimately take him down?

But because Stronghart is right there, you know have zero reason to entertain Kazuma as one. It kills the tension when you think you’ve hit dead ends in that case because you’re not facing the guy you already know did it. But then you’re sitting there going is there even other suspects?! And it feels like the game is treating you stupid. And Kazuma feels the same way when Barok is taken off the suspect list and HE loses hope. He doesn’t think hmm. This might be higher up the ladder, he just freaks out until Ryunosuke tells him not to give up. It doesn’t capture that moment of weakness in TGAA’s 1st intro.

    Sadly, the end of this video is probably my biggest disagreement. These are by far the series best in damm near everything( especially the cast, these were the first characters. I actually really gave a shit about and got invested in). Strongheart while obvious seeming was still able to let me get my gaurd down slightly. And it being on par with Investigations is utter blasphemy. The first investigations is just the worst. And the second while far better I don't see why people call it one of the best outside of comparing it to the first one. It was far better but it's highest. Moments fell between shadow of Apollo Justice and Dual, and I really don't feel if they stuck the landing. Do I fan boy for this collectio lot? Acro was pretty obviously the real culprit as soon as you meet him (though it was unintentional, he still killed the Ringmaster and didn't tell the truth about it). Ben and Trilo were annoying, though Trilo more than Ben. I hate this case with a burning passion, and nothing anyone says will remove it from the very bottom of my own list. I haven't played the Investigation cases yet, so I have no real opinion of those. @@toonman5099 I’m scripting it, but I think the 4-4 timeline might be delayed and the best side characters ranking looks like it’ll be done 1st. But 4-4 is going to be a 2025 project.

    *HOLD IT!* This certainly does explain a lot…but then I’m left wondering, since Spirit of Justice covered overthrowing a tyrannical government…what is there left for Phoenix to try to do to improve the legal system in his own home?

    Idk about you guys but my first time playing dual destinies I was kinda sad that Gumshoe was not returning and because I had a bias for gumshoe I didn’t want Fulbright as the replacement however after playing more of the game I was beginning to like him. The complete shock I had when he turned out to be the villain in the final case for me is the best shock I had in any video game

    I have to admit, this video put a lot of my misgivings with duel destinies to rest. It put a lot of things that happened into perspective that I just couldn’t see. Thank you.
