My father said to me one day when i was around 10 years old: < come and see something funny!> He then showed me this musicvideo, and i had nightmares for weeks to come. Then i saw it aroung my 40`s, and now i get all the references and sillyness! Personally i thing that this musicvideo is more relevant than ever before with all those stupid pronounces and more genders than two - crap! The even more funny thing is that it will become more and more relevant as time goes by...

Glad to see you sharing the joy of music with your daughter. I am with you and like the disturbed version better. The genesis song is great mind you, but the disturbed takes it to the next level

I lost my own grandma to dementia/alzheimers,after first losing my grandpa to the aftermaths after a "minor stroke",he fought his longest fight in the hospital for months,until he had to throw in the towel just over new years,so every new years knowing what he went through,has never been the same. Both of them passed either close to,or just after Christmas. Way before all that i lost my only parent to cancer,and buried them on little christmas eve,so yeah..... me and the holidays dont go so hand in hand anymore. If i had my own girlfriend or wife and kids,sure...i would put on a brave pokerface and do my outmost to give them the same days to look forward to as i had as a kid. But i have not been that fortunate. How much this video mentallly destroyed me,as i relived my younger cousins reaction to grandma suddenly one day didnt recognize them,pheeew,one of the toughest experiences of my life. I dont wish upon anyone to go through this,because it affects every single one. No matter how great the communication between the family and friends are,you can never prepare for what is coming,its all so unpredictable,your mind cant process it properly. Even how much you try to keep a calm head and telling yourself why,it just destroys you. Especially like in my case,on my cousins behalf as i have always been like the biggest brother in the family for them,always protecting them while outside playing etc. I guess im a huge empath there. With all that said,this video still did me the world of good to watch,no matter how unpleasant the brutal scenes was. It was like great theraphy to watch it,and it has went on to be one of my favourite music videos ever made. Im seriously late to this reaction done 2 years ago,but its charming to see a dad and daughter do this together,her comforting rubs on your shoulder,as she noticed you were down. Absolutely heartwarming and wonderful! Brought a slight tear to my eye,as it awoked my childhood wish of having my own daughter,not for my own egoistic sake only,but for me remembering how my own mom would tell me how she lost my big sister too early to miscarriage. And the interesting part here is that my own favourite female name,and the name she was gonna name my big sister,was the exact same one,WITHOUT us knowing of eachothers thoughts. So anyway,im glad YTs homepage recommended you 2 for me! It was a time well spent with you 2! You are one amazing duo!

Disappointed that you didn’t put the original song in context with world events when the song was made. It changed the perspective of blaming Hollywood politicians up to the Man in Charge. American media is it’s own worst enemy and worst joke sometimes.

I was a teenager when the Genesis version came on, and I hated the video even worse than Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. The worst torture I can imagine would involve being force to watch it on repeat. It was so horrible that it made the song itself irrelevant. Now that Disturbed has done a decent cover, I see that it is actually a pretty good song.

The original version is comical compared to Disturbed. The passion in just not there in the voice. It doesn't convey the message....same as Sound of Silence.

The Genesis video made a lot more sense (at least to British people) at the time as the video was made by Spitting Image which was a satirical comedy show, the puppets featured are of world leaders of the time. Nowadays, it kinda takes away from the message. A fantastic idea for a music video fort this song would be to have newscasters of various networks (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, LBC... maybe even France 24, Deutsche Welle and Al Jazeera) read out the lyrics to camera in time to the tune. I'm just wondering what your teenage daughter would make of Stiff Little Fingers, especially Suspect Device.

Those incredible puppets were part of the UK's political satire TV programme at the time called 'Spitting Images'. So damned funny then ans still are today.

Political satire while poking fun at themselves, Genesis! Disturbed is heavy. Liking both is a great comment. Different and both very good.

First time Ive watched one of your reactions. I payed very close attention to your daughter's reaction. I saw 2 different reactions.. The first one, to the Genesis version.. Was truly the look of confusion. The Disturbd version.. She look more sad than confused. Both were powerful videos in different ways. And both so well done in their own rights. This is a very cool contrast, then vs now. Still some of the same issues unfortunately. Nice to see the kids getting involved though 👍 My boys love Disturbed as well as a bunch of metal bands.

My son who is 6 loves Slipknot and Korn. Took him to see Korn for his 6th birthday. Then 3 months after that took him to see Slipknot. We go again tomorrow to see slipknot. Its all he asks for to watch korn and slipknot videos.

I've been a huge genesis fan for decades! I love their version and the video is super funny and it's a parady of the fear for the atomic bomb back in the 80's. Sorry but the disturbed version is really bad! But that's just my opinion.

Obvious that theirs a complete disconnect with reality vs dreamland. Disconnect for the younger generation is real

Well. I was 11 when I have heard this song. Not only I loved that girth, that oomph of Disturbed sound, but the meaning, the message was very clear to me. Maybe that was because I was interested in the song and payed attention. I don't thing the lack of words by the girl is due to age or gender, but because of passive listening, not active one.

I was a teenager when this video came out at the height of 80s cold war tensions. Things were getting pretty scary out there. That video is actually pretty horrifying when you consider the subtext.

While I love both versions the video for Genesis is so very distracting. Might have been done so purposely hence the title of the song. The diffrence is the the Genesis version makes one think of the message while Disturbed's version gets the blood pumping.
