The year of the jommy hill and covrntry cheat, i still resent them to this day, as a child it broke my heart, cheated
The year of a great turnaround and results thrashing teams as a bottom club 6 1 v wba, 4 0 v boro, 6 nik v whu and getting points from a hopeless league position, almost the greatest escape of all time until the jimmy hill cheat
Was at that match it was greatcoat see Rowell end his barren run, unfortunately he came back from injury and was never the same
Jimmy, Jimmy Monty la la la laaaa
I was there. 10 years old in the Fulwell End. Fantastic game. Roker Park was wonderful
I was there as a 17 year old in the Clock Stand Paddock. I loved this era of football, it was when proper men played the game. Not like these ponces today the knars
Leeds used to bring 200-300 supporters to Roker back then!
The game was played amidst an orgy of violence on the terraces and outside the ground
What a save from wilson
Oh what a day, match finished we came on the pitch, I want for the penalty spot, but it was the wrong one, never mind still through it in the gutter going back to train station.pink lane Newcastle was like a battle ground, nothing but brown ale bottles flying.all over the place right, lift, centre on the way back to the station.not to be Forgotten.❤
Still love watching these games, makes wonder what has happened to the lads ,others, from coach n2,,from the nook and shields branch ,for bless the lot of them,oh happy days.philip Cheshire, cheesy.😊 ,
I was in the 5 Sunderland supporters that took penalties on the pitch against the Man Utd Supporters at 2-30 before the game and again at half time WHAT AN EXPERIENCE THAT WAS !!!
Joe thou shall not pass under any circumstances Bolton red and white hero
With his wrong foot as well he controlled the midfield and game
What an amazing weekend this was
Proper ground
Brilliant game. I was in the Fulwell End.
Why would Sunderland give up such a famous old ground like that? Should have simply renovated it. That stand was a work of art.
This was one of my favourite ever games I have been to in my life..
What an absolute brilliant night! We played city off the park that night!!!!
I loved the derby when I lived in the North East. I hope they bounce back soon!
Bloody hell, all that in the first half!!!!
that was a great match best team in NORTH EAST SUNDERLAND A.F.C
I liked Bob Wilson he dived at opposing forwards feet. Did he take one for the team? Them days or did they just limp off? Swiss roll overs out of date.
Was almost the 92 fa cup final. We had to win this one. Penultimate game of the season. Fully expected us to get beat as we were looking like we were getting relegated. Happy memories from a great day at roker
both teams with a change kit ,,,,,,,, ?
This is all fake man. Trump was rite aboot fake news and this just proves some Makam lass made this up. It's disgustin that this fake news was gannin on back then and we're just cottonin on to it now!!!
Im there in that big away end, after a huge struggle to get in. I ended up getting a thump off of this big poluce Inspector on the back of the head. Turned round ready to give some back and ill i see is tge lettuce leaves etc in the hat. He says F off to the back of the line boyo, so i did.
Scored 3 made 2, easiest M O Match choice ever
Ave got dirty knees too
Would love to see this footage digitally enhanced and with some colour added. Every Sunderland fan knows about this game, I never experienced roker park before they dismantled the roker end but you get a sense of the atmosphere when each goal is scored. Ha’way the Lads ……..FTM.
Roker park in the seventies, the Place to be, the roker roar, my second home miss it so much Happy days, adiós amigos.
Was in the Fulwell
My brother is Spurs mad but was living in Northampton due to his work, we went to see Northampton v Swansea on this day, he had updates on transistor & thought they'd possibly blown promotion
I think Spurs were beginning to look home and dry around Easter time 1978, then came a bit of a "wobble" during the run-in, including this defeat v Sunderland, which I dare say some Spurs fans might thought have cost their club promotion. But Spurs did eventually go back up to Div. 1, though it was purely goal difference over Brighton.
RIP SuperMel. Taken way too soon.
Home is where the heart is
I wish it was 1984!
I was around in 73 staying in Solar House in the town centre, before leaving England in 1975. But I cannot recall the world cup fever at all, probably because I was not a football fan. I only ever went to one match in my life, at Roker Park and then only because I was dating Elizabeth Taylor - not the movie start but the daughter of George Taylor, football commentator on Tyne Tees TV who gave us tickets!
One of the most famous commentators of all time.....'some of the crowd are on the pitch...etc....' Kenneth Wolstenholme. He was painful to listen to. 😂
Just under 52000
Fulwell singing Geordie aggro hello Geordie aggro the makam shite was unheard of then
If only every player had bought into PAULO’s passion & will to be the best they could be..🤷🏼🧐👍🏻
I was there happy days 🔴⚪️🌑
Giveovet
An epic Second Division promotion clash, & wasn't it voted MOTD's "match of the season" for 1974-75? There were more than 60,000 inside OT for the game, I just wish I could have been one of them!
In the end it was Southampton’s year ‘funny old game’ hate todays football woke bollocks !!!
After this my brother and sister were Taking the piss out of me about 6 0 Defeat … they sung this song rut ta Ta 6 0. 6 0 za bur - a song which was In the charts .. I must have been 11 yrs Old 😂
There was hell on until midnight after this.
Maybe not a surprise, given what was at stake for the two clubs, ie promotion and survival.
Vic Halom was the manager of Rochdale FC in 1984 - I left school at 15 to be an apprentice footballer with the 4th division club. He was a good manager and still tough to play against in 5-a-side games. Vic was built for the number 9 shirt and had a great touch, as well as power. I think he is one of the last few from this team still living. Great game to watch! 1973 final was even better.
