    Hi All, I am Founder & Chair of APP2APP. Just a reminder that ALL of our lectures are for educational purposes only, and we are not giving medical advice to individual persons, nor to physicians regarding how to treat their individual patients. For this reason, I did have to go ahead and remove all of the posts under this lecture, as they were detailing very specific PHI (Private Health Information). Thank you for understanding. Sharon

    As someone who has PPA, I think the criteria postulated for the three types could be far too rigid especially when diagnosing someone like me who appears to have symptoms of each variant plus an MRI scan indicating PCA. My latest diagnosis was done at FRONTIERS Brain and Mind Centre at Sydney Uni in Nov 2023. I was first diagnosed with PPA IN 2017. To be fair to the neurologists there, they did not know what to make of it. In their detailed report they indicated examples of all three variants. What is more, I have been able to reverse many of my initial symptoms by following Dr Dale Bredesen's protocol. My latest neurological test score was 88/100. My initial score was 34/100. I am 80 yrs old with a PhD in Linguistics. The wonderful news is that there are others like me who have reversed the worst of their symptoms. So I think being too rigid is not at all helpful, especially when neuroplacicity is taken into account.

    • @sharonbest4209
      @sharonbest4209 4 месяца назад

      Hi Lea, forgive the late reply. It is actually quite common for symptoms of the three types of ppa to "merge" as time passes. You mentioned you were initially diagnosed in 2017. Going back in time, could you identify which one of the three PPAs you best fit? Did you have a FDG PET scan at any point in time, esp in the early days of your diagnosis? Cognitive experts match the clinical picture with the imaging to make a diagnoses early on. The bottom line is that the criteria is most useful for making an "early" diagnoses. This makes perfect sense, since as brain degeneration progresses, more areas of the brain are affected and sypmtomoloygy will begin to merge. When we see patients in later stages, the MRIs and PETs will show a more widespread disease as will the clinical picture. One impt point is that we cannot put "neurological testing" into a simple box. Quality assessments include many components, eg: memory & learning, language (broken down into further components as noted in this lecture), attention, visuospatial, executive function, processing speed, motor function, etc... even changes in behavior should be assessed. Sometimes, if the same test is given over time and if focused on only one of these cognitive components, such as "language", the pt comes to memorize the test and the answers over time. Remember, in PPA memory can be spared for many years. It must have been very difficult diagnosis for you to accept when you are such an accomplished Linguist. Your baseline aptitude is likely quite high, which is surely at least contributory to why you have apparently done so well over time. Personally, I don't believe in the Bredesen's protocol. However, I am happy you felt it worked for you. Thank you for your comment, and I am again so sorry to have missed it!

    Hi there, I just watched your presentation. My mom has been dealing with ET for years. She was also diagnosed with PD and then that diagnosis was change to not having PD and medication induced ET. She has been on every PD medication with no response. Just recently for a last ditch effort to help her do basic daily functions the last medication she was on was levodopa/carbidopa combination which did not work. Her doctors that medication because it shows she has little to no dopamine after her most recent DAT Scan. She was so much worse after being on Leavadopa/Carbidopa.After watching your presentation and all of the criteria for PD she definitely doesn't have PD and looks more like ET. So I have two questions, are there supplements you would suggest for low dopamine and would you suggest a low level of CBD? We have tried everything for her and she can barely drink a glass of water. Thanks for and thoughts and suggestions.

    • @app2appvirtuallectures346
      @app2appvirtuallectures346 Год назад

      Hi, Please forgive the delay in response. NaPro is amazing. I have tons of info for providers on my Queen of Heart website here: queenofheartsfertility.org/ . There is a "NaPro" page. Also, if you scroll down to the bottom of the home page, you can click a button that will direct you right into the St. Paul VI Institute where all NaPro providers are trained. The cost for an MD/DO is $6,000 to complete the Educational program as a "NaPro Medical Consultant". PAs and NPs are required to complete a duel program, which costs $12,000 and includes the exact same "NaPro Medical Consultant" curriculum in addition to another educational program where you become a certified "Creighton Model Fertility Care Practitioner". As a NaPro Medical Consultant, providers practice ObGyn and are trained to also apply NaPro Technology protocols. The latter is where the mid-level providers will also learn how to teach couples how to use the Creighton Model system of menstrual tracking, which provides the us with additional biomarkers which can be very helpful to diagnostic evaluation and treatment. Also, please feel free to email me at stbest8@gmail.com and I will be happy to schedule a phone consult with you. Sincerely Yours, Sharon

      Thank you for your comment.... LBD is very hard to accept, probably the most difficult for both you and your family. However, I can tell you, that while I worked at UPenn in dementia, I very often saw a beautiful blessing emerge after the dx of LBD in that the love of the spouse and/or children for the affected loved blossomed and brought the family much closer together in the midst of the suffering. Love is sacrificing for the other and it is beautiful to witness.
