EASY THREED K9 MINI PRINTER IMPROVE PRINT QUALITY WITH STABILISING BRACKETS
Thanks for watching!
Welcome to my video. I look at stabilising the K9 Mini 3D printer with custom brackets designed using Design Spark Mechanical 3D design software. The brackets can be printed in the 10x10x10 build volume. I have split up the X axis guide into 4 pieces which can be printed and stuck together using a suitable glue. There is an allowance of .5 mm which includes an allowance for glue thickness.
The idea for the X axis guide was borrowed (see resources section below* for the link).
Please be sure to check that the printer is still square before fixing down the brackets. Use a carpenter’s square or similar equipment. It may require some trial & error. The brackets can be used...

      Sorry you had these difficulties. Its hard to provide support but there is an EasyThreed Reddit. You can post the problem. Generally printer companies don't offer support. Premium machines maybe yes but not on the budget machines. Its normal unfortunately. If you can explain what went wrong, I can try to help but a forum would be your best bet. People are very helpful. There are also a multitude of forums on Reddit for general 3D printing and I'm sure someone will be able to help. The main thing is to carefully explain the problem and symptoms you have experienced with the machine. The config file is on the SD card. I think its hidden deeply in sub folders etc and isn't easy to find.The file is in Manual, video, software/Slicer Software, video, manual/For Mac/Cura Mac, video --- prints quality good This is as it appears on my SD card supplied with the printer. I note you've advised you are using a Mac. Cura should run on your Mac. It can be obtained from the Ultimaker Cura website: ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura/ Kind regards & best wishes

These are the SAME files on the website of free models provided by the website link on the TF card…. I sliced them in Easyware and printed them but they wont upload to CURA and keep saying make sure the gcode os suitable for printer (which it is because i used Easyware to print test prints)

    • @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez
      @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez 3 дня назад

      Yes. Ironing is on. Other settings too. Walls 1 and extra infill walls. The walls going right up to the surface create gaps. There is only 1 wall which is the minimum possible. Adding walls in the infill makes the model strong but the walls don't go right up to the top so there are no gaps that extend to the surface. I did go into it in one of my other videos. I will add a link. The video was long & covered a lot plus that. Ill edit my comment later with a link. Kind regards & best wishes.

    Stringing is caused by the hot end being too hot for the fillament. I only use PLA and always printed at 200c, but I started to get a lot of stringing. I lowered the temp down to 197c and get a lot less stringing. I know it is not the same as you use, but it might help. I went to download the super slicer, which it did, but I had forgotten I already had it installed. lol. But I think it was an older version, so now, I have the latest version. Watching this video, I managed to 'pull' the model. I could never get to design and pull it into a 3d object on FreeCAD.

    • @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez
      @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez Месяц назад

      Thank you for watching the video. My printer doesn't like printing more than one instance of a model. It causes issues with print quality like excessive stringing but I accept I could tune the temperatures more. I just usually use the default preset that Super Slicer uses for printing without question. Since I modified the printer with a 1mm nozzle the presets don't work as well. I have to use presets for a .8 nozzle which may not be optimal. It prints very fast, very strong. With 1mm its fast but loses quality. Generally I print larger objects so speed is more important than quality. It should likely be printed on a printer with a .4 nozzle to get the best quality. Im so glad you were able to use `DSM. I tried FreeCad as well. DSM is much easier. DSM is very easy to learn by trial & error. Im totally self taught but also followed tutorials. Hopefully you should be able to get on better with it. I will be doing more projects coming up. Kind regards & best wishes.

      @@NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez I am self taught too and still learning some stuff from watching your video's. I watch others too if I find a problem that I can't figure out. I use Cura 5.6.0 for the slicing and it upgraded to 5.7.0 and my printer stopped placing hte pla on the bed. I tried all sorts of settings and tried adjusting the z offset and nothingh worked. I uninstalled 5.7.0 and reverted back to 5.6.0 and found it was just as bad as the 5.7.0. Someone told me in a forum the updates write a patch in a copied part of hte last version and still uses the settings. I found hte original setting on my computer as it was dated hte date I installed it and reinstalled that one and everything was great. Printing has beed good since. I did use a lot of filament trying to sort out the problem with 5.7.0 though. If I could find a decent slicer which is just as easy to understand as cura, I think I would be happier. Cura is easy to understand and follow. Carry on with the vids I love learning more from you. Regards. Ian

      @@ianallen2 You could try Prusa Slicer. Its pretty much similar to Super Slicer. I use Cura, Prusa Slicer & Super Slicer. They have different qualities. Principally I use the different ones to keep separate for different printers. I would heartily recommend Prusa Slicer if you are using an Ender 3. I have my Ender 3 running with Prusa Slicer. They are definitely worth the learning curve if you wish to try them. Each of the slicers have advantages and disadvantages. Most are available free. I normally use the free ones. I did try almost all of the free ones at some time but now use the 3 mentioned. If you choose to try Prusa Slicer, there is a set up wizard and you can choose the appropriate profile for your specific printer. Prusa have made these profiles available and they are ace IMHO. Quality is super right off the bat with little customisation needed, however you may find that Cura is better in some circumstances for some prints and these others better in others. The great thing is that because they are free you can have both or more. Whatever suits. I will be doing more with DSM coming up. I will go for a bit better quality next time. The CR10 likes single items when it will do not bad quality. I just did a box that was about 8 by 6 inches and about 6 inches tall. That was the long print I mentioned (16hrs). It worked great. Still not perfect quality but acceptable. It works but not the perfection that some like. Thanks for your comments and watching of course!

      Здравствуйте, я пишу в Google Translate, чтобы ответить. Вы можете заменить форсунку в сборе. Они доступны на Али Экспресс. Пока мне не нужно было этого делать. Это выглядит как эффективный хотэнд с точки зрения энергопотребления и механики. Я как раз собираюсь снять еще одно видео, в котором покажу, как можно укрепить верхнюю часть принтера. Сделать это низкотехнологичным способом довольно дешево. В другом своем видео я сделал подставку для К9. Я использую подставку, чтобы стабилизировать его. Это сильно меняет качество печати. Верхние изделия становятся намного жестче, а печать улучшается. Думаю, сравнение принтера с Ender 3 уместно, но K9 стоит 1/3 цены. Он также потребляет гораздо меньше энергии. Он может печатать гибкие материалы без каких-либо корректировок. Его очень легко собрать и использовать. Есть аргументы в пользу обоих. Это не замена Ender 3, но у него есть преимущества. Спасибо за ваш комментарий и за просмотр видео. С уважением и наилучшими пожеланиями.

      Can you say if the card or the reader is broken? If it is the card, any micro SD card will do in the machine. If it is the SD card reader, you can connect the printer to a computer. There are softwares to control the printer from a computer; Octoprint, for example can do this. A suitable computer is needed. It does appear to be available for the Raspberry Pi, Android, Linux , Windows & Mac. Unfortunately I can't give you support with it as I have never used it personally but there are many resources online. The printer does feature a USB connection. Octoprint is a great piece of software with an extensive community behind it. I will add it to my list of projects to explore. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to help. Sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner Thanks very much for your comments. Kind regards & best wishes.

    I highly recommend getting the Ender 3 V3 SE. It is a very good printer and prints a lot better than the K9. I done two calibration cubes (one downloaded off thingiverse and one I made on Tinkercad, both were 20mm squared) and they were correct in their sizes. I think it was me and my measuring when I designed a soldering iron tip cleaner tub with a base for it to fit in and the tub didnt fit twice as I printed it twice after resizing the second one by what I thought the first was mm over sized but turned out to be 1.8mm over. The 3rd print fitted like a glove when I measured the base hole and redesigned the tub. I am still learning designing and dont know half of it yet. The V3 SE is well worth it as only around £200. I bought mine then looked on youtube for reviews and found all are very good reviews.

As I have and Ender 3 & CR10 printers I can say that the print quality of the K9 for a $60 machine is just fine. Its certainly capable of making a functional part in PLA. Thank you for your comment. 3D printing is a a steep learning curve. Easyware is functional or at least it can be used but doesn't offer the same options as Cura will. Cura is suitable for any FDM 3D printer, so the settings should work the same. Your SD card should have come with a little configuration file which should configure CURA and it works with 5.4.0 as well as the older version of CURA that comes on the SD card. Id Jump to 5.4.0 or whatever the latest version is. It has a wealth of features. Im currently trying to look at optimal settings in CURA for the K9. Id suggest to try looking at www.youtube.com/@filamentfriday The channel has a large amount of useful information on 3D printing in general though they don't cover Easy Threed printers. Id suggest trying a calibration cube which should give you an idea how the printer performs. Although Cura has many settings, its best to not to change too many of them unless there is a compelling reason. Thanks for watching and let me know how you get on. Kind regards & best wishes.

    Can you help? I was using my k9 for the first time last night. went well! the little rocket file in my included card is adorable. it was a little tough to get it off the platform so i attempted to adjust the leveling a little.. during this the tip began to release some filament ( i suppose i should have removed the filament maybe? ) and was still lowered. I got it back up, removed the blob of filament, removed the filament from the feeder (the white that came with the printer) and now it is not feeding or heating at all! I cannot find anything helpful with this particular printer, for this issue, so far. I only received this on Christmas morning and set it up last night to finally try.

      Im sorry you had this problem. I hope you were able to get it fixed. If you have any blobs on the printer I would suggest raising the print head and running the loading sequence to heat the filament & then extrude it. Normally I clean off any blobs carefully with a tough leather gardening/riggers glove that has tough leather fingers and palms which should protect from the heat of the nozzle and can be used to clean the nozzle prior to levelling the bed. Id suggest disconnecting the printer from the electricity supply and power cycling it to see if thats effective at resetting it. Please let me know how you got on. Kind regards & best wishes.

    How good is this 3D printer?

    • @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez
      @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment & watching the video. As long as you only need a 10x10x10cm print volume and only plan to print in TPU or PLA. I haven tried PETG yet. Im not sure if it would be up to PETG. Its a great starter printer to learn the basics for a budget of $60 or there abouts, there is nothing else. In the long term you may want to buy something that prints in a larger volume & more materials. The learning curve on the bigger printers is steeper and more things can go wrong with them. This printer is very easy to set up and use but long term you will want to get a larger machine. It will give you a good grounding in the principals. Ive been printing many years and have many machines. Most are very complicated to get working properly. This machine is very simple and easy to assemble & use. Its made of ABS so isn't as strong as the bigger machines but it is 3x cheaper than many of the more popular ones. Its all a question of compromises. If you are new to 3D printing, its definitely a worthy contender to learn on without the complexity of problems that come with the larger printers and its good as a proof of concept if you need to justify the cost of a printer to a sceptical wife, husband or partner etc. Kind regards & best wishes.

    Its a good job I watched this video again. With your help, managed to get my printer settings into Cura. I am now printing the benchy but as I like it where it is a little lower and a little wider. Standard, I think the cabin is out of scale and too tall. I have also bought a heated bed for my K9 as I tried to print a box and one corner was lifting up and it was catching on hte print head and didnt work. I am hoping hte hotbed will work better when it arrives.

      @NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez 7 месяцев назад

      Hello again. I didn't see your 2nd comment. It shouldn't lift tho, not with PLA at least. Have you tried levelling the bed again with the paper method? It might be that bed bed has gone out of adjustment. Mine seems to require re-levelling frequently but its very easy to do fortunately with the 4 little buttons. You might check out my other video on changing to the Ender 3 magnetic print surface which makes the bottom layer cleaner and is just as easy with bed adhesion. Kind regards & Best wishes!

    • @ianallen2
      @ianallen2 7 месяцев назад

      @@NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez The printer is new. I level the bed every time I use it. I have done the paper thickness every time I level the bed. It has the magnetic print surface. The prints raise up at the 4th corner after a few laps of printing. It doesnt happen straight away, but after a few layers. It seems as if the heat of the pla lifts the corner and then the tip of the extruder catches the raised part. I use PLA+. Small items are easy to print, but ones that go have a larger foot print seem to either not stick or the printer doesnt like the number 4 corner. I found that I could press down on the far left corner of the printer base and it will level the y axis and bring the axis level, so I super glued the foot of the base down so it doesnt lift up. I havent tried the printer yet as one item I wanted to print turns out to be too big for the bed. As it is a 100x100x100mm printing area, hte piece goes out of the range by 4mm one side and 3mm on another side. I will find something to print that is going to be useful for me to use. It is only a T12 soldering station case, but I have a couple of different t12 soldering stations I would love to print out. I have to learn how to start designing one but cant yet get a simple panel started. I have a print to try, which is 3mm all around oversized but it had two parts to it and I cant find a way of deleting one of the parts so I can just print a part of the set. The way it is set out, it has both parts on the print table at the same time and I cant edit it to print one part. I use Cura or FreeCAD to load the files and have it set for my printer.

    As I mentioned in your latest video, I have just bought one from AliExpress for under £60 total. There is an offer on at the moment (15th Nov 2023) where you get £3 off every £15 spent. The printer is listed at around £70 and with £12 off then free postage and + tax, it was £58.20. I haved another printer in bits as the plywood frame was broken and the display missing (it was a Prusa 3d printer) and it has a hot plate and I was thinking of making it fit the new K9 I will be receiving in a couple of weeks. I have made a reel holder out of plywood but never thought of making a carrier like you have. To stop hte base sounding like a drum, board in the bottom of it.

      Hello and thanks so much for your comments. Im in my 50s myself. IMHO seniors may have a better experience with 3D printing. Its a kind of electro mechanical device which has mechanical & electronic components combined. I often feel that seniors have more of a practical grasp of those things than younger folk and are more inclined to practical things which is a distinct advantage. Plus we also have patience etc because we grew up in a different time. These things are so good for the hobby. Im sorry you had a bad experience with your first printer. Its a steep learning curve. Thats why I think this range of printers is great because it takes a lot of things out of the equation that otherwise might cause problems. Bed levelling and bed adhesion - the one is easy and the other simply doesn't exist. Bed adhesion is great. No heat needed. No trouble with it. Blockages - I've not had one yet with mine. It doesn't seem to block. Feeding the filament is very easy - another thing people struggle with sometimes as the filament can get stuck, get loose, components fall apart or go out of adjustment. Not so with these printers, they are very simple and straight forward to use and the filament path is very simple. People can go on to acquire other skills & needed later. Its not like being thrown in the deep end. I hope you enjoy using the printer when you get it! I wanted to do a video on feeding the filament etc and I've still got a lot of things to do with the printer plus also some 3D design projects with Design Spark Mechanical which is a 3D design program. It has a free version. It only works on Windows machines ATM. Id encourage you to take a look and see if it would be of interest. Its certainly worth the time to learn it. Kind regards & best wishes.

      @@NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez I saw this reply after I saw your second one. I find feeding the filament easy. I hade a filament reel holder out of plywood before the printer arrived and placed it behind the extruder so the feed is almost in line all the time. I havent used the white filament that came with the printer. I have bought a 3d pen and think I will use that with the white from the Easythreed. I am going to look at the 3d design you mentioned, thanks. I had a 3d design program on a computer many years ago, but I think it was part of print that is on computers, and I designed an interior for a camper van I was building from an Ex Post Office LDV Convoy van. Needless to say, I built the camper as I went along but only used half of what I planned with the 3d design program. I will find one and learn how to start 3d design. I was thinking of going for a resin 3d printer, but I am unsure of the drying and cleaning process as I have seen other machines that will set and clean the excess resin on the printed items. Hi Ian, its interesting you say you are doing a van conversion because Ive done one too which is mostly finished apart form the water heater which I haven't had time to finish. I used a lot of 3D printed parts in mine eg edging for the over cab area, framing for the windows, gaskets & grommets, the glands for the solar cables etc. Basically anything I couldn't buy or easily buy. I also did custom joints for the waste water system. Of course it means you can have any combination of angles for the pipe work rather than sticking with what's on the normal market for these things. Good luck with your build BTW. The K9 isn't up to ABS but of course you could get something later that is. There are many printers that will do it. I haven't considered resin myself or looked into the technology either. Id be interested to see what you made for the K9 but Im not sure how to share things. I don't know if you saw my other video where I made a platform for it. It was a bit rough & ready but functional. I may set up a website later depending on if the channel grows etc. Kind regards. @@ianallen2

      @@NightStarLeafTech-vj3ez \It was a few years ago (around 13 years) when I built two camper vans, One a transit minibus into a camper and the LDV. I also built a teardrop caravan. I bought a mattress to fit in it and asked my wife what she thought of it. She felt claustrophobic in it.. lol. For the K9, I built a frame similar to yours, but with a solid board base. I am going to upload a video on youtube to show what I have done. I have had a micro sd card extension off ebay arrive today. It will be easier for me to mount the sd card as where it is on the printer, I think is awkward to put the card in as I need a light to see the slot. I have thought about making a reel holder to come off the handle uprights, just to bring it in from the back a bit as the reel overhands the back of the base plate. I am thinking of making an enclosure for it to keep dust off it. I will only use PLA and PLA+ for printing. I have read ABS is smelly and needs a ventilation fan and filter. The heated bed makes the prints stick a lot better to the bed. Best regards.

I didnt have any time at all since the summer but hopefully I can start doing a bit more in early 2024. Interest in the printer has grown. Its not surprising due to the price point. I cannot explain why you had the problems with bed adhesion, with mine it was too much if anything. It depends maybe where you are in the world and what your ambient temperatures are. IDK.
