Koala was not my favorite either. The squirrel too. Ryan has a lot of teen hormones, and possibly unspoken mom issues outside of his complex to be outside his fathers “accomplishments”. The father was survivor, who managed to be upbeat, so there is that as an accomplishment. I think he sulked and was being avoidant, but yeah, the carrier closed on him do to that. The movie felt more dark adventure than comedy. The extra characters, and some of the mains are cringe. The males go out of their ways to be unhinged, and the female was made as if no female was ever known as a person. Very one dimensional, and cliche. I watched the movie a few times, but I just was looking for bonus timelines of Simba having time with Mufasa. Once you mentioned it, the generational trauma pattern, actually is decent writing. It’s more common than instant perfection, and seeing imperfections helps some viewers catch what not to do from there. Some of the nuance goes over the head until grown. I did dislike him faking greatness. He didn’t abandon Ryan, but he caused Ryan feel that much more behind in life. I did like that he tried to make it a bonding experience. His intention was good in the pov that he wanted to not give up on him, and let him feel inspired to grow it. His dishonesty caused it to be a shadow that isolates though.

This is the only Disney movie I can think of that opens with a teenage boy’s wet dream 😂

omg great reaction it was a ton of fun. a goofy FILM like nothing even slightly ""ironic"" about it, this is a fantastic movie it's so special as a Parent & Child Dynamic piece of media too, because it's so thoughtful & earnest about truly looking at the relationship from both sides throughout & making it a mutual journey. the norm is so biased towards parents being the ones allowed to be justified at the end of the day as Just Imperfect People Trying Their Best while kids are that as well, but if they're unhappy it's just frivolous & the parents have to get their way. a movie allegedly exploring all the Complexity of a strained parent/child relationship will so often default to "but at the end of the day, you see?: the parent has Feelings" and the child learning to be less unappreciative or whatever lol. but the goofy movie said ahyuck...that's cute, hold my can of alphabet soup seriously though like, all throughout it's truly incorporating both the parent & kid perspective & never just defaults to goofy getting his way simply b/c he's the parent, juxtaposed with pete's parenting technique which is exactly that (the one i had, with the bullying & the Making Problems & trying to just be The Authority who rules by fear & can supposedly pick exactly where your kid ends up: but you can't, b/c they're people & not bowling balls, & they won't love Or respect you, & as shown with pj, he still does things his dad wouldn't allow, he's just extra afraid about it & will now share even less with his dad b/c he's someone to fear & someone who doesn't really know him & doesn't actually care to)....even people who enjoy this film can think goofy warrants all the sympathy in beginning b/c fearing for his son's life overrides max's High School Drama, but there's the fact that max might've even told his dad what he was thinking of doing if they were closer, And we see that even though max loves powerline enough to have the cardboard standee of him in his room, goofy has no idea who he is, another sign of not having put in the effort to really know about things important to max (obviously not out of malice or lack of overall care) even if it seems frivolous to the parent: like high school drama might, but Social Drama matters to adults too, they just look down on kids' even when it can be as big of a deal & it makes up significant parts of kids' lives & involves their very serious feelings. and then to be forced on the spot to go on an unwanted roadtrip, with no real space for max to choose Not to go or hardly get a word in edgewise, is a wholly misguided approach & any adult would understand why they'd hate to be subjected to that, even as we also understand that goofy thinks he Has to take "drastic measures" thanks to getting this contextless info from principal mazur (which, again, he might have more context if he was closer to max, or be getting it Now if he and max could talk, rather than max being talked over in this scene because his dad is dead set on this foregone conclusion) lord this is an Essay but the movie's worth that And More. the disconnect of goofy trying to recreate Fond Memories of Experiences he had with His dad, while max is again just dragged around somewhere he doesn't want to be, still deeply & understandably frustrated with the overall situation, and trapped in another scenario where it seems like he's on his own with his feelings while his dad is a force of Worsening Those Feelings....goofy cartoon antics are happening and then culminate in such a grounded, real outburst that's genuinely discomfiting and yet So so good because the conflict is set up so well and their disconnect is so tragic in this moment. plenty of people could think that goofy ought to get angry at Max for having an angry outburst, but that's Pete Parenting Logic that isn't really going to fix anything & will ultimately only "improve" things by making a kid hide their feelings away more generally. goofy saying he had to ease up for things to start working....the scene in the hotel might be my overall favorite part, with that warm rapport between goofy and max, then pete being obviously jealous and Looking To Cause Problems (so realistically, like you said, if he hated to do it he wouldn't be doing it lol) and then the conversation between pete & goofy is so genuinely real and like what a performance lol, and showing goofy not even actually looking on purpose, but feeling so frustrated before that in even getting to the point he'd lean over to check instead of their relationship "really" being so good that he truly had no doubt, and just being shaken afterward....it also feels super Real to me too when max is sort of confused yet nervous about his dad's changed mood & saying he'll clean up (throwback to his room / "we talked about this" at the start lol) & i think that that's just like, connecting to my own experiences with a more Pete style parenting situation where being on edge & nervously feeling "in charge of" your parent's mood is familiar lol. obviously not max's overall situation but simply In That Moment.... the montages that are the i2i concert performance and also those roadtrip stops are also soooo so fun to watch. there's even so much about this movie beyond the story that is so great, character design, music, animation, the decisive period setting, voice acting, sound design, all just gone above & beyond on this movie that was like, given third tier resources (pocahontas was the like disney top tier project at the time, Then the lion king as the like smaller concurrent project, Then a goofy movie even smaller than that) & it's just stunning and it's SO special like, can count on one hand a movie that really is serious about the Parenting aspect too & genuinely looking at both parts of the relationship throughout, rather than having a central theme of parent/child conflict / distance just kinda bounce from one Drama to the next & dump it all on the kid to "come around" in the end & appreciate (& accept) the status quo while All Is Forgiven for the parent so long as they Have Feelings or Tried At All lol. this movie is such a true engagement with a disconnect that is mended & how appreciation is Mutual & communication has to actually improve, along with real understanding & consideration, & it never takes the easy way of saying "no yeah the parent should Just put their foot down & the kid will Have to come around" when we all know that someone Just forcing whatever on us wouldn't make us Have to truly come around, versus increasingly resent interactions / proximity with that person & escape it as much as possible lol. like pj! anyway lol this is a fantastic gem of a movie and it's great you watched it & again such a fun reaction. the more people enjoy it the better, and you can't lose lol like if someone had a good relationship with a parent? good reminder of that. if they didn't? you get respected as someone who really deserved better than a parent like e.g. pete lol. and meanwhile: the other characters at school who appear so relatively briefly but all shine lmaoooo this movie is a true gem

While Todd I agree wasn’t listening he didn’t really even have time to turn around chief hear them talking and woke up, like It wasn’t like he walked into chiefs bed again he was going to take a step forward but he was mid step, he should have listened but he and cooper didn’t even have a chance to finish the back and forth of this is a bad idea,

also, if anyone is confused as to why him asking Nimona if it hurts when she transforms is not a small minded question, it's because the question is about her and her well being. The other questions up to that point were about Ballister's own discomfort and unease with Nimona. That was the first question he asked that showed he cared about her as a person. edit: also, when we get Nimona Kaiju, Nimona doesn't actually attack or target any people. It's the knights that cause the damage that hurts the people in the city. It's subtly but a great touch

19:46 Although people criticize Tai Lung's personality a lot in this film, I didn't think it was that bad, considering the fact that he probably spent a lot of time in the spirit realm so he must have reflected his actions a lot, in reality Tai Lung has just accepted that He wasn't the Dragon Warrior and probably didn't even know what he wanted or who he really was. it was Shifu who put this pressure and expectation on his head, the problem was that they didn't know how to value the villains and other characters appropriately. He was never bad, no one is born that way, Shifu indirectly caused all this excessive pride in him, he was just blind to obtain more power at that specific moment and have approval from his own father, he only had one purpose in life and when that was taken from him, his life no longer made sense. When Tai Lung took the warrior dragon scroll he just said "there's nothing" because he couldn't see anything inside it, but Po understood the message... there is no secret ingredient.

Mainly just how the world feels less atmospheric and angelic to explore. I think the beauty was present with the belief tree, but the collection of memories somehow looks kind of dull the second time around. This is still very creative with it's play on words and concepts. The new locations fit the world like the secret vault and especially Anxiety's drawing room. That is easily my second favourite scene in the movie for how funny and creative it is. While the idea of a journey across the mind and learning they can't restrict Riley is done again, this never feels like a retread. This is changed conflict with Anxiety as a direct antagonist trying to stop them making this feel tense and engaging.

As someone who love subtitled over dubbed, I also am a huge proponent of watching anime the way you want to watch it. Enjoyed the reaction and glad you liked the film!! One thing to note that I'm not sure if you're aware of, as I didn't see it in the video, is that the date Suzume loses her mom (3-11 in the diary) is an actual life event: the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region. It registered 9.0+ and resulted in over 20,000 deaths. So this is an extremely personal and tragic date for the Japanese people. The film highlights the declining population and the tragic events of that day, but ends on the note of hopefulness and that the future will be bright. It's just an absolutely lovely film.

I can’t believe I just thought of this now, but maybe the old folks didn’t notice they still looked the same because _they’re old._ Their eyesight is probably already bad 😅 Multiple stories in one movie was in a handful of direct to DVD Disney movies. I think sequels only or mostly. Pretty sure it’s because they’re originally conceived as shows, so episode stories just get mashed into one. That was definitely the case with the Atlantis sequel. Although there was in fact a show for these movies, but it was focussed on Kuzco. Ironically, you going crazy about “riiiiiight” made it funny 😂 24:31 You’ve said a lot of things in this movie are crazy. _That shot_ (that your shocked self is covering) is crazy. They knew what they were doing 🤣

However the score they gave that movie was deserved because that was objectively one of the worst direct-to-video Disney sequels ever made, even worse than Kronk’s New Groove.
