    Comparing SNSD and 2NE1 is like comparing Apples and Tomatoes, both of which are fruits but they are not the same. SNSD became one of the great Iconic girl groups with its basis of great vocals and awesome choreography. Having 9 members shaped their development. 2NE1 Had great vocals but more subtle choreography. They had a broader range of music styles and excellent rapping. With 4 members they allowed individuality to show. Conclusion: Both great! Both were very important to the growth of female KPOP groups.

    Well... I listen music, I do not watch music, if idols want to be dancers and performers then is fine but then stop pretending to be musicians and present only as performers and give proper credicts to the ones creating the music and singing it.

    • @bitterOrangish

      I mean thats why they’re called idols not musicians. They perform music and some better than others. Very few idols actually make music so if thats what you want this might not be the media for you.

    I disagree with the first one a lot. It's probably because I'm more interested in vocals than dance or performance, so it's pretty obvious that lipsyncing all the time is going to bother me. Still, I understand lipsyncing in music shows and sometimes even in live performances when the idol's condition isn't the best or when the choreography is too demanding (in this last case, lipsyncing some parts of the song and being selective over the parts they want to sing like lipsyncing the chorus because it's really heavy on choreography, for example). But it really throws me off when I can't find a single performance of a certain song with the group singing live when there are plenty of performances available but they're all lipsync. Like can't you just record a performance in which you sing live? Like in an award cerimony or something? Idk... I do realize that kpop is a visual-focused industry but I still think it's too much in most cases. Loved the video tho <3

    Heavy HEAVYYYY on the first one, I honestly don’t give a damn whether they lip sync or not, I don’t know what vocals I’ve already heard (but probably better) on the original track is gonna do for me…… I’d much rather see something we haven’t seen much which is the dancing, I will always always choose watching a group have amazing performances rather with lip syncing than outstanding vocals and lack luster preformances

    About people making fun of Soyeons accent .. aren't they the same people that were completely fine with "And they keep telling me who is he?" in OMG by Newjeans? It doesn't make sense how you're gonna praise a group for speaking English but then completely drag another. But like, again.. *what the hell do you expect?* English is not her first language so of course it's not gonna sound 100% perfect.

  • @melodramatic7904

    I'm still believe that lipsyncing has gone too far. I also feel like you are mistaking performer for dancer. A good performer doesn't even NEED to dance to keep the audience engaged. However the dances have becomes so difficult that there is not only any chance for singing live but also no chance to actually PERFORM.

    • @bitterOrangish
      @bitterOrangish 2 месяца назад

      I see what you mean. Just a difference in priorities. I like challenging dances that showcase their dancing skills. But what i tried to say is I prefer better dancers OR better performers. Usually the two go hand in hand(like seulgi from rv), but i know that in some groups the best performer isn’t always the best dancer.

    Dara & Bom were already established artists before debuting in 2NE1. This added to the groups early success. Bom had a few features with Bigbang already & Dara was popular entertainer in the Philippines before moving back to Korea. So when 2NE1 debuted they had a huge Filipino audience from the beginning when Dara moved to Kpop. Great video! Just wanted to add a couple things

    As a group: SNSD > 2NE1. But hear me out 😅 Girl groups in general weren’t marketable at the time and experienced a decline before the success of SNSD & Wonder Girls. So in a way SNSD did help 2ne1. I would say the main difference between the two is marketing. SNSD is primarily marketed for Asia while 2NE1 is primarily for the western market. We never got the joint album between Will.i.am & 2NE1 that was heavily teased & promoted. I was/is a fan of both groups. 2ne1 is charismatic whereas SNSD is classy. There’s space for both. ❤ But personally I think SNSD “wins” because more thought went into the formation. Everything from staging, vocals, harmonies & structure. 2NE1 wasn’t supposed to be a group. They all said they were originally supposed to be soloists & it shows. CL was traded from JYP to start rapping for a hopeful single in YG. Dara was a star in the Philippines. Bom already had a few songs: with Bigbang ‘We Belong Together’ & ‘Forever With U’ & another song with another singer (can’t remember the name right now). All this happened before 2NE1 & their demo track ‘Pretty Boy’ which made the company create the group & feature the song on their first album

      Got ur point. But still 2NE1. Simply cuz they're fire on stage. They feel more authentic and spontaneous while SNSD felt too choreographed and directed.

      @saranguyen2788 4 месяца назад

      @@arien_000 Yeah I get you too but choreographed & directed (SNSD) is literally kinda the point of a group tho 😂 2NE1 were “authentic & spontaneous” that’s because they were trained be solo pop stars & therefore stronger individually so it makes sense. 2NE1 > SNSD as individuals SNSD > 2NE1 as a group

    • @arien_000
      @arien_000 4 месяца назад

      @@saranguyen2788 nah, they were an excellent group. Each person is distinct but they fit right with each other like puzzles. A rainbow is pretty cuz each part is a different color. It's how you work with your differences. And each of their voices felt the same way - distinct but in harmony with each other - so their songs have a lot of vocal texture. Also can't beat the fact that their songs and entire albums are good. 2NE1 and BIGBANG songs are the type that you can actually play on the radio and won't care who sang it cuz they're good. SNSD songs are okay but they become really popular cuz it's SNSD who performed them. They were one of the first gg who relied heavily on visual appeal rather than coming up with great tracks. YG during that period of time understood how great music is much more important than visuals. 2NE1 may also be known due to their high energy songs like IATB, Fire, Crush but they also have all types of songs about different experiences and they are all bops - Ugly, Lonely, I love you, Missing you, Good girl, If I were you, Come back home, CL's Hello Bitches and MTBD, etc.. their songs have real replayability. SNSD songs are only hot for a certain period. I still love Run Devil Run though just like I still enjoy a few Suju and SHINee songs.. a few.. I only started really liking SM stuff when NCT came along and Taemin went solo. I thought NCT was pretty much like a combination of EXO and BIGBANG in appeal and SM was right in getting ideas from YG and YG also learned from SM by combining SNSD and 2NE1 style with BP.

    • @saranguyen2788
      @saranguyen2788 4 месяца назад

      @@arien_000 I definitely agree with most of what you said. BP is both 2NE1 & SNSD, especially marketing. 2ne1 has a lot of vocal texture & replay ability whereas SNSDs songs are aimed for the time. But that’s also why SNSD is more nostalgic for most. For example, their debut song ‘Into the New World’ gains popularity again when Koreans protest. And ‘Gee’, is a great song, but mainly nostalgic for the time. SMs earlier artists & groups followed the direction of western pop like *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Britney Spears etc. with some Jpop influence. YGs early influences are most Black hip hop artists, TLC, Lil Kim, Justin Timberlake etc. If you look at the music SM & YG samples from artists you can often see what direction they aimed for each era. YG has always aimed to reach globally, it’s definitely their strength. In terms of chemistry, I’d say this is where 2ne1 falls a little short. I think this is less to do about personality and more about age. It was speculated for years Minzy always seemed on a different page. There’s a 10 year difference between the oldest & youngest member which is kinda crazy. SNSD members are all within 3 years. Bigbang: Weren’t supposed to be a group either. GDragon & Taeyang were originally a duo, then again solo. TOP, was an underground rapper. All until the company wanted to make an idol group because they were struggling with money. But they,like 2NE1, focuses mainly on production & the western market. SNSDs downfall is being too visual dependent, so you made some great points. This is due to money & branding. Most of SNSDs catalog sold well because like you said, they’re SNSD. The group focuses heavily on getting lucrative brand deals & CFs. It’s how a lot of the members make & continue to make money since they are a large group & the company owns most of the royalties. The members weren’t allowed to write or produce music until much later on. They also have to maintain a youthful image visually & in music. This is a big contrast to Bigbang & 2NE1. G dragon gets a lot of royalties from co-producing a lot of their songs. It’s why he’s so rich. And CL co-produced most of their second album. They also have the freedom to explore maturer themes.

    SNSD active over 15 years, 2ne1 active barely 7 years of their career but people in today world kinda love 2ne1 musics a lot than SNSD and I think without any controversy for 21 and SNSD back then, there’s already westerners that acknowledge 2ne1 will break in US market already

    • @saranguyen2788

      2NE1 was primarily made for the western market. 3 of 4 members are fluent in English. They were supposed to have an official joint album with Will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas) which was heavily teased. Unfortunately it never came. This also explains why 2NE1 worked with western designers to break into Hollywood with fashion connections (Jeremy Scott) and why they were spotted at nightclubs to network with Djs. Blackpink of course continued the torch 2ne1 left behind

    I especially wanted to add at how good this company is with turning its markets against each other remember when RVelvet made icecream cake I believe ? It was saying the English translated Ver. Was sexually intended with lyric full of innuendos in English whilst Korean and Asian fans said it wasn’t . Well both sides were right . The same thing happened with cookies when Korean fans said it didn’t mean something sexual to them it was interpreted as giving a boy you like a cookie while the original Ver. (English as well as translated) suggested something completely otherwise . I remember the shock and arguments each fanbase put up , international and domestic when they couldn’t reach an agreement when technically both was right it was just more shocking towards the market they either aim to (western). I believe min heejin was the director for sm during ice cream cake as well !! When this type of one-sided shock marketing happens these groups gained both protection domestically (Asian fans protecting new jeans from harsh criticism that were truthfully so when translated ) and western fans becoming defensive in their beliefs. It confuses both and get them media play in both markets . Again I will say this growing up in a particular black household. They way black people used cookie in the US may be different. Cookies means a female sexual organ . My mother would say this as a censorship so it wouldn’t be inappropriate. When learning about seggs at a young age my mom would explain birds and bees using “cookies” “she would say never give your cookies away meaning your female genital” / virginity. If we speak technically I’m new jeans English translation or ver. It’s specifically speaking about the young TEENAGE girls giving away their cookies to a boy . The girls proceed to say they could have it anyway the boys like by adding chocolate chips , sprinkles and chocolate etc . Insisting to the boys by basically say it they could have them anyways possible like for example seggs positions , lingerie etc . The girls in the song also say to the boy to take a bite insinuating oral . I also want to point out the tone they sing this in .. the producers chose this as a “r&b” track to mask the way the sing it in a whiny tone . For Asian fans this song would be interpreted as a girl meeting a boy and giving him cookies she baked as a love sign . But for western fans it shows a girl losing her v-card and or trying to please a boy using her body . Again it’s normal for teens to do seggsual acts at that age hence we have that “talk” but to use actual teenager to do so ? To create shock in the western base and get coverage was so bizzare .. Sorry for the long paragraph but someone had to say it .

    100% agree. I didn't like the members of the group being so young and wouldn't want to financially support this growing trend but the marketing makes it even worse. In a perfect world they would've waited to debut them until they were older but since they didn't I would've hoped that the label would try to at least make their music/concepts as appropriate and uncontroversial as possible. Maybe slightly fewer releases so they can go to school and everything. But this outrage marketing tactic is just so scummy and I hate that instead of protecting the girls (who probably have to deal with enough by just being public figures at such a young age) the company stirrs up controversy just to profit of them. And the worst thing is that it's entirely unnecessary. They will make tons of money nonetheless
