Finding Missing Values in a Sequence Like a Pattern Detective
In this video, I'll guide you through finding missing values in a sequence using a few examples. You'll learn how to find the missing terms in any sequence by identifying patterns, with a focus on solving problems involving an arithmetic sequence.
We'll start with a real-world example to show you how to find the missing terms of an arithmetic sequence step by step. Then, I'll walk you through three additional problems to deepen your understanding of sequence patterns and teach you how to find the missing number with confidence.
Whether you're solving problems for class or just love learning mathematics, this video has everything you need to improve your skills and solve for missing terms of...

Easy Tips for How to Tell if a Function is a Polynomial (By Looking at its Equation)
Просмотров 3202 месяца назад
Wondering how to tell if a function is a polynomial? In this algebra video, I'll walk you through how to determine if a function is a polynomial by looking at its equation. This introduction to polynomial functions video will help you understand just what is a polynomial equation. This will make sure that when you come across a function, you'll know if it’s a polynomial function just by looking...
A SIMPLE Way To Determine the Equation of a Polynomial Function From Its Graph (Degree 4 Example!)

In this video I will show you the easiest way to determine the equation of a polynomial function from its graph. Finding the equation of a polynomial function is a simple process if you remember to use the x-intercepts as well as consider the multiplicity of a zero. In this example, I will walk you through the process used to find an equation of a degree 4 polynomial function from the graph of ...
Easily Find the Equation of a Polynomial Function from a Graph and Its Zeros
Просмотров 3502 месяца назад
In this video I will explain how to find the equation of a polynomial function with the given zeros shown on a graph! This is a simple example where the polynomial function is a cubic function that has three x-intercepts. The first step to find the polynomial equation is identifying the zeros. To do this we look for the points on the graph where the function passes through the x-axis. We place ...

In this video I will walk you through how to accurately sketch the graph of ANY polynomial function by using a degree 4 example of a polynomial in factored form. Note that this video does NOT use a calculus approach, and therefore does not consider the critical points. The first step that I always use is to identify the degree of the polynomial function. We can determine the degree of a polynom...

And what if the calculation is purely just substraction multiple times? So a-b-c? Would I then just practically first plot a, then switch the direction of b and put its tail to the end of a, and switch the direction of c and put its tail to the end of b? I am amazed that I cannot easily find an answer to this question on the net!

those were some really basic examples. I was hoping for more of a discussion on what happens when the pattern is hard and different things you can try to figure it out. Like if someone gave you the sequence: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23,... then any mathematician would say "oh, those are the prime numbers" and tell you the rule and that the next number is 29. However they know that because as a mathematician with years of experience they've seen many important sequences and can easily spot them, but how do mathematicians identify new sequences with complex patterns that aren't just always add 4 or subtract 9, and how should students learn to identify similarly difficult pasterns? what steps do you take to try to think out of the box? Here's a few sequences, see if you can identify the next number and the rule (no cheating with the OEIS). Please tell me how hard you think they are, and how you would explain your reasoning to a student or someone interested in learning math: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 31,... 1, 2, 4, 6, 16, 12,... 1, 4, 10, 20, 35, 56,... 1, 0, 2, -1, 4, -4,... 1, 2, 6, 12, 60, 60,... 1, 5, 6, 11, 20, 22,... 1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211,... edit: I don't mean to be dismissive of your teaching, I'm simply really curious if there are ways of getting better at detecting patterns.

No problem! I didn’t take it as dismissive. For full context, this is an old video I made for a grade 6 math course I was developing. For instance, when you had A+B+C, when you introduced subtraction, would the negative vector be the complete opposite of the positive one (e.g. C from above video)? Regardless of angle or direction? Or does it negative vector rely on other factors? Such as the orientation of A,B etc?
