I cover western songs that catch my fancy alongside The Caretaker's Everywhere At The End of Time series. I'm a student and do piano on the side, having taken lessons since 2011; however, my second wind in the instrument only came circa 2020. Thanks for stopping by! I'm very unpolished as a pianist, but hope that through my monthly-ish uploads I can occasionally produce something that's worth a listen.
Made in Heaven - Queen / Freddie Mercury (Piano Cover)
The grandiose soundscape of Queen's Made In Heaven (1995) captivated me as an early teen. The song was originally made by Freddie Mercury as a solo venture in 1985. Following his death, his band members took up the track and reorchestrated it with their signature Queen sound. Outfitted with thundering drums and guitar, the song's twists and turns deliver previously uncapitalized impact, from the statement G minor intro (originally lone piano octaves) to the climactic guitar solo (a completely new addition, justifying the previously unsatisfied build-up of the bridge). Overall, the five-key rock track takes on an atmosphere epic and otherworldly - maybe fulfilling what the lyrics and title...

A3 / Late Afternoon Drifting (EATEOT Piano Solo Arr. @FikretX)
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
A short and cordial tune, Late Afternoon Drifting belongs in its early position in Everywhere at the End of Time as the third track. I recorded this on vacation, and the nature of EATEOT fits perfectly with the haphazard setup I cobbled together. (See: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxwqTvEWLjyPGrqHOb2k8fX5Eku0PcUHyF) With only access to a synth action five octave keyboard, I focused the visuals on the...
Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell / Jimmy Webb (Piano Cover)

Wichita Lineman, Glen Campbell's 1968 single written by Jimmy Webb, is another tune introduced to me by Rick Beato's channel. Had I been around earlier, I would have doubtlessly known it already - it's a legendary composition and performance that (relatively) recently earned it a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. I'm always looking for harmonically creative songs to cover, and Jimmy Webb made W...

The Sublime Is Disappointingly Elusive - the dramatic closer to An Empty Bliss Beyond This World - was a must-cover for me as I move through @FikretX's arrangements of The Caretaker's works. This is Fikret's latest solo piano arrangement and his most technically ambitious yet. Combined with the mystical chords of the original song, the colorful runs and jumps that he added made playing the arra...
The Wall - Kansas (Piano Cover)
Просмотров 4546 месяцев назад
My piano take on The Wall by the band Kansas - the same artists behind Dust in the Wind and Carry On My Wayward Son. In fact, The Wall comes right after the latter on their album Leftoverture (1976). A rich and grandiose progressive rock ballad, it appeals to me both as a listener and as an arranger - the lyrics are heartfelt, instrumentation grand, and chord progressions full of twists to unpa...
E1 / Back There Benjamin [Libet's Delay] (EATEOT Piano Solo Arr. @FikretX)
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Back There Benjamin (E1, EATEOT) is the counterpart to Libet's Delay (AEBBTW), with both tracks sampling the same song, "Goodnight, My Beautiful". E1 is comparatively heavy-handed and features a dramatic original introduction. With Libet's Delay being a disproportionately viral hit on my channel, it's nice to cover E1 as well - even with a similar iPhone camera angle. It strikes a hilarious con...

An Empty Bliss Beyond This World [Title Track] (Piano Solo Arr. @FikretX )
Просмотров 5339 месяцев назад
The title track of The Caretaker's "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" is a catchy and somewhat spooky tune, sourced from Layton & Johnstone's "The Wedding Of The Painted Doll". To fit the mood, I opted for a low-light filming environment, but it ended up getting darker than intended, as the sun began to set as I recorded. The grainy result was actually suitable for the spookiness of the song, s...
Star Fleet - Brian May + Friends (Piano Cover)
Просмотров 27311 месяцев назад
With Brian May releasing his Star Fleet Sessions a few months ago, I decided to cover the title track on piano! The music is very guitar heavy, and being a pianist rather than a guitarist, I've had to be selective in which parts of the song I've translated to piano. Starting at the first melody I could grip at (around half a minute into the original song), I've gone until the end of the second ...

The Caretaker's "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" starts out with this catchy and upbeat track. I played @FikretX's arrangement - as I do with all The Caretaker pieces - and since it ends rather abruptly, I decided to play his segue into A2 "Moments of Sufficient Lucidity", providing more length and closure. Way to take on a Queen arranging challenge! Lots of thoughtful ideas and always your fantastic technical ideas too! Congratulations on the new arrangement!
PS. Love your thumbs up logo at the end - so classy!
Thank you so much! Definitely packed that one with a lot of ideas, maybe some too technical for my own good. Appreciate the congratulations; this was an endeavor

thanks! it's a good point; my channel is more focused on the musicality than effects side of things

That's too happy :/
Thank you for covering it! I've had this on loop in the background writing some poetry, and it just feels so whimsical compared to the original. I also got good news btw, I won two big poetry competitions (Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award & Tower Poetry) in this past year when I recommended you to cover this song! Crazy how time flies. Music like this, really make me feel and picture images in my head so strong that I got to write down my thoughts - poetry!
Sounds like you found your calling! Super inspiring what you've accomplished, and it's wonderful to see how we've both progressed in our own ways since your request last year. So glad you still enjoy the song and now my cover satisfying!
We need sheet music!
Fikret wrote the arrangement I'm playing - the sheets I used are in the description of his video: ruclips.net/video/p8ocuy-tE8o/видео.html
@@boredPianoAdv thanks!
G major at 415 Hz interesting but I use f# major at A= 446 hz but still good
Ah, so that's the original tuning? I wasn't trying to match it, but that's a good idea for future EATEOT/AEBBTW videos. Here i needed to transpose twice (-1 semitone to get from G major to the original F#, and -12 semitones/ an octave to reach the low notes at the end). I decided it'd be easier to use tuning for the first transposition, and picked something random in the F# vicinity
(and I would have originally done it in F# minor if my keyboard had more space)
My only complaint is that its not long enough!
Gotta phone up @FikretX (who arranged this) and demand he write more variations haha Thanks!
this got recommended to me randomly few hours ago, im not complaining. good job

Too kind!
Cool song!!!!
It is! Been nice to follow your senior recital videos by the way
holy shit this sounds beautiful
Was a joy to play
I've been loving that "felt piano" sound. Is that a plugin? I heard it on @bethanywakim 's channel - she's a lovely contemporary composer with such original modern sounds at the piano!
So a felt piano is achieved by putting a layer of felt between the hammers and the strings; you can do that on most acoustic pianos. There are indeed plugins which capture this effect, and I'm using one of them - the same one I use for my normal videos, actually; the felt version is just another preset on the main piano model
P.S. You look familiar! :)
@@boredPianoAdv Oh that is super cool. Thanks for the added info on how you achieve that on your keyboard! AND by the way it's amazing what you accomplish in 5 octaves - truly! I love the calming sound of it.
@@boredPianoAdv Haha. Indeed! I am starting a little experiment with some of the instrumental-only pieces on a separate channel! 'tis just me! Hope your year is wrapping up well!
@@MotifMusicStudios Same to you! That's a good idea for a second channel and I'll be keeping an eye on it
What beautifully relaxed sounds. Definitely had that 'drifting mood' and I loved all those jazzy chord sounds too.
It was wonderful music to play!
I loved this very much! Great job!
Thank you! Goes to show you don't need 88 keys for everything haha
As for something with 88 keys, I'm thinking you might enjoy the latest AEBBTW video I made - though it's definitely more grandiose than reading lol
@@boredPianoAdv I’ll check it out! It sounds interesting.
Brilliant! Splendid arrangement! The '70s era of prog-rock was a period of great musical richness. Well done indeed.
Thank you! It was an honor to cover this wonderful song. I'm so glad you found my cover - might I ask how you came across it? Its watch traffic has all but dried up at this point, unfortunately
@@boredPianoAdv I'm very glad that you found your "second wind" at the piano a few years back; you have considerable and impressive musical talent. It is an amazing song; I was happy to see you do this one because it was not a radio hit, but more of an "album track." I'm fairly certain that the RUclips algorithm noticed that I recently watched the Kansas topic's own video of "The Wall" and, because of that, placed your video a couple days later among my suggested videos.
@@boredPianoAdv I should also mention that it was your SHORT of "The Wall" that first appeared in my suggested videos, and since I enjoyed the short, I then navigated to your channel and found the full video.
@@PopHorizonScanner You're too kind! I love to discover and embrace "album tracks" because 1) there's always some magic that people overlook, or that is too daring for mainstream tastes; 2) they haven't been overdone on RUclips, so I feel like I'm covering new ground. The downside you see is that my covers of them get less attention. Thanks for the info - it helps me to know how I get my channel out there
Omg!!! So you have the sheet??
I was going to say there should be a link in the description of Fikret's Stage 2 MIDI video but looks like that's down. I'll send you a link to my personal transcription (it's what I'm reading in the video) in the comment right after this one. Let me know if you can't see it within the next five minutes - RUclips likes to eat links in comments

Oh my GOD i really love this one and how grand yet empty it is
Exactly!
So happy you did this one, and also very impressed! I was worried some of the parts might not be possible, but you rose to the challenge. Great job! Also yes, you are indeed the first human to ever play this (including me)
Heyy you saw this! I'm so glad. It took the most work out of your arrangements but I was feeling for a challenge. Happy that this turned out well, and that it vindicates you from playability concerns (sidenote: those left hand jumps are a bit extra and probably bring more pain than payoff). Of course, these pieces which take the most effort to prepare seem to get the least views on my channel LOL
@@boredPianoAdv Haha yea, that is the unfortunate reality of The Eternal Algorithm. Speaking of which, I'm a few days away from releasing something new (though it's not piano, so you won't be able to cover it haha)
