Never heard of that.
You’re going to chop my knee up and give me Tylenol ???
Superb summary of the status at this point and explanations of the weird stuff that goes off...nerves zinging into life for no apparent reason. Very reassuring, thank you so much.
Im in Scotland and due to have my first hip replacement surgery in 3 weeks time. Thank you Doctor for putting across the information in such a calm concise way!👍👏👏♥️🏴🇺🇸
This was the best and most informative 6 week video
I am 5 weeks post knee op sleep is not great been doing physio knee still stiff thank you for sharing this video you are so right about all the symptoms glad I found your video
They really should be more realistic about what it’s like. I went to pre-op “Joint-Camp” that didn’t talk at all about the horror that is the first month. I was discharged fourteen hours post op after a revision from Partial to TKR. The pain relief the first week was totally inadequate. It used to be you spent five days in the hospital with either an epidural, continuous pain block, and PCA IV narcotics. I’m four months post-op and moving along well. I had the pre-op cryoablation a month prior and it was very painful, plus the numbness only lasted 36 hrs. IIt’s a good surgery, you just have to measure your progress by the week, not the day. My surgeon now says it takes eighteen months to recover. They really have to inform patients what they can expect, and not treat it like you’re going to church camp.😮😮
Doc, I can't thank you enough for this info. I am 4 weeks po left anterior. This settles my mind. Wish my PA would give me this rundown.
Are there any weight lifting restrictions at 6 weeks? Referring to house hold items and such.
WELL EXPLAINED 👍. THANKS 🙏
3 weeks post op, gettin a little better, Abstaining from alcohol, as I have been a binger most my life.
7:15 to bad I didn’t see youre video, people skill’s you have my friend. It’s always good to hear that my condition at 4 weeks is quite good, 68 and very serious gravel bike cyclist I was surprised to see my left quadriceps to be that much a sleep. I’m at more then 110 degrés so steps 5 inch have started and my saddle is down to my regular height. The hardest getting from the toilet…strength at more then 10p degrees is not there yet. If only I could translate youre video in French, thank you sir for youre calm and inspiring explanations. I had a total knee replacement by navigation ROBOT. COULD BE THE REASON
You are spot on regarding what the TKR patient can expect to feel at the 6 wk mark. I'm only at the 4 wk mark and now I'm more prepared for my journey to full recovery in around a years time. Slow steps but moving toward the best shape my knee has been in for 20 yrs. I see a bright light at the end of the TKR surgery tunnel.🙏
Thank you for saying everything that I'm going through at 6 weeks is normal and that I'm not going to have great range of motion and that Physical Therapy is still painful but I'm doing it so I can heal. I needed to know where I should be in my recovery.
I am so glad to have found your video. I was feeling defeated and depressed by my by symptoms. They matched everything you described, giving me peace of mind and encouragement. Thank you so very much.
At night is terrible 😢😢😢, but get better. Thanks ❤ I already have edema in another hip ...
One title says "Hip", the other says "Knee?
I cant sleep 5 weeks...knee . Pain in my knee 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢i cant take it anymore 😢😢😢
What's sleep?
My situations a little different. I’m 58, had a THR in March. Went great for 7 wks then dislocated out of the Blue. The fall after the dislocation also fractured my spine (nobody in the ER knew at the time). They sent x-rays and scans to my surgeon and reset my hip. He could not find anything wrong and told me to continue with my re-hab etc. 4 days later it dislocated again while I stood folding a blanket. I was alone, no phone in hand. I yelled to my phone ‘hey SIRI, call so and so!’ Thank God it worked! My husband, kids and an ambulance all showed up quickly. Same EMT as I’d had 4 days earlier and a sweetheart! He tried to soothe my nerves saying, ‘well you just can’t get rid of me can you?’😊 Ambulance scraping me off the floor halfway between my bedroom/hallway. The ER reset it again while I wanted to die at that point because the pain both times was ungodly. My surgeon had me sent to his hospital and admitted his fault to my family. The ball and socket were at the wrong angle for me. It’s not one size fits all. His partner found the issue. He then did a revision. A different angle, as well as a bigger ball/socket. My situation is that this is taking SO much longer to heal. I heard revisions do???I’m very depressed and have PTSD so bad from the dislocations fearing it will happen again. It likely won’t but the pain has been awful and of course the spine fracture doesn’t help. I can’t do my PT as good as before. I can’t sleep good at all. I’m on a cane 24/7. I can’t shower without my husband helping me in/out. We went as far as calling BathFitters to have our tub converted to a walk in shower because im terrified of going over the tub wall etc. It’s been a nightmare but it’s slowly coming. My surgeon said it’ll be the end of July before I ‘turn the corner.’ I hope he’s right. I just want to get back to my life. Today is 8 wks post-op. My first surgery was in March, the 2 dislocations/fracture and hip revision were all in May so it’s been a LOT to take on. My physician has me on several meds for pain, nerve pain (the spine), anxiety, PTSD,…….i hope things improve soon. I was just curious where I should be at this point, given these circumstances???!
Very good info, Thanks
That was so helpful. I am only 4 weeks after surgery tomorrow afternoon and I admit I am not a patient person. I am 73. This was really the first surgery I have ever had except for meniscus tear/bone spur on the same knee about 8 years ago. Since then I have done steroid shots, artificial cartilage, even stem cell injections hoping to avoid surgery. Tightness and trouble sleeping are my main issues. I drove at two weeks. It is my left leg. Was given Percocet but didn’t need much. I am strong and active. One mistake I made was having home health care the first three weeks. They were always complimenting me and pleasant to chit chat with but they certainly didn’t push me as far as exercise. Now I am at a good PT location three times a week. Darned if I didn’t break a tooth about two days after surgery. It is not painful but it is an upper left canine tooth so I am starting the process of getting a bridge made tomorrow. I will take the medicine my knee doctor wants me to but could put it off. It doesn’t look very nice when I smile but of course I am more concerned about my knee than my vanity. Carole
Just had my 6 week appointment. Doing well.
Tramadol is a cuss word in my book. sick as ive ever been plus pain stayed the same
Tramadol sucks
Great info. You really explain what exactly is going on in there. I have searched for detailed understanding of what is physiologically going on in there. Thank you.
People are saying that they are doing alot at 6 to 8 weeks I wasnt
Six days after knee replacement surgery. Thank you for this video.
This was so comforting. Phew, I’m doing alright. Sleep is sometimes absent, and my body temperature seems to swing between too hot and too cold at night. This is my second knee replaced, starting 3 months after the first one was replaced. The swelling was less, but the pain more longer lasting at the hellish level this time. Odd. My theory is having both knees still healing means the pain is cumulative. My symptoms can be wildly variable: agony one day and better the next. It’s hard to exercise and not overdo it, creating more inflammation and pain. I see my surgeon tomorrow for the 6 week check-up, and this video has given me some good ideas about how to prepare for the visit. Thank you!
Full of shit, 2 weeks @ 110 degrees, what an unrealistic goal. Sorry absolute crap
My TKR was April 18 & being 6-weeks & 2- days out, wish I was told the truth on what to expect with this surgery! It truly is so difficult, painful, & debilitating! The hypersensitivity, zings & shocks, bruising & swelling, and the hot knee, it was so scary! Then there is the PT=pain & torture.... OMG! Major is the correct word, not the sugar coating I was told!
Thank you so much for the information. I'm at 6 weeks today. This makes me feel much better about how it feels. Thanks again!
I've never wanted this surgery. Every video makes me want to die
Learned more from you than my own Dr. I'm 4 weeks in. Pure misery. Thanks for the info!
Best and most practical TKR recovery info I have seen online yet. This is right on the money. TKR recovery is a mission all the way around. Thanks Dr. Wickline
4 weeks past surgery and this is the first video that mimicked nearly everything I am feeling. Now I know some of the questions I will have for my surgeon. Thank you.
Most compassionate doctor I have ever met. The man is a gifted surgeon, and gives people back their life...
excellent surgeon. did both my knees
Wow, this was so helpful made me feel like everything I was experiencing was perfectly normal thank you for sharing
A warning about Gabapentin! I've been taking 2800mg for 25 years for nerve pain. In the past couple of years I've reduced this dose drastically to 600mg a day because I was concerned about taking so much for so long. What I hadn't been told is that it's quite controversial. It is very difficult to come off due to withdrawal symptoms so I had to do it very gradually.
What kind of antibiotics before dental work do you prescribe So I can ask my surgeon
The best.
Wow you have described my situation to a T, thank you so much.
My hubs is at four weeks----he is in a lot of pain.
Do the prescribed exercises, walk for two miles daily when the weather is clement, no ice! I was able to walk into my post op at seven weeks! The surgeon told me to continue using crutches 'til week 10. Complete recovery.
wow. After 3 weeks no crutches, but no ex ,too.No PT . you dont need. PT for me made my leg worse and slowed down my recovery. The first hip replacement. The second one ,no PT. Much better.
Best 6 week description. My symptoms to a T. Glad to know it's normal. I'm 100% glad I had the procedure.
Thank you for such an informative video. It's given me some hope
Very helpful. Much information in a very clear presentation. Thank you from Sweden 😊
You are so clear! I understand the swelling and heat now!
So glad I watched this video I really received info I needed ro continue on So many questions answered Thank you❤
